White Lies – Goldmine Lyrics 10 years ago
To the heat of a foreign sun,
Warm my love safe in your arms.
And the choirs of the air and sea,
Spend your love to sail home to me.

I saw her blue eyes candid in the headlight - she's got a new style,
I saw her white smile digging in the goldmine - for a new life.

This killing time is going to bruise forever,
So turn it back - better late than never.
I saw her white smile digging in the goldmine,
Girl you look tired, even love, is it even ever?

I go out anywhere at all,
To see that life goes on, if I'm there or not.
I throw alms at on the street,
Hoping when your guilt builds up, I'll find you at my feet.

I saw her blue eyes candid in the headlight - she's got a new style,
I saw her white smile digging in the goldmine - for a new life.

This killing time is going to bruise forever,
So turn it back - better late than never.
I saw her white smile digging in the goldmine,
Girl you look tired,
Even love,
Is it even ever?
Even love,
Even love.

I saw her white smile digging in the goldmine,
Girl you look tired,
Even love,
Even love.
Even love,
I saw her white smile digging in the goldmine
Girl you look tired.

I think emi_sarb might be on to something.

Also, I think the opening line is "Feelings you never knew..."

The Maccabees – Ayla Lyrics 11 years ago
Personally, I think it's someone (or perhaps a couple) looking back at before they got together.

I think the first two verses are one of the couple looking back at how shy they were (Aimless am I, Listless I'm the blunt of the knife, Drifting to the corners of life), & how they weren't sure if they should approach the other person (I could make something right, Gentle with the kindness I'd like, So often it's a trick of the light).

The chorus is the couple looking back at how they liked each other, without knowing how the other felt (And we wait for love, In the shape of us, Until the wait is over, under halcyon skies, Until the wait is over, for an innocent life).

The last two verses are where one of them finally tells the other how they feel (It's a weight off my mind,I could trust you, you could tell me it's fine, I could sew you a stitch and save nine), & getting the response they both want, & quite possibly need (None more admired, and out of soft focused desire, From honeyed milk to funeral pyre).

The song then leads into how they are going to try to stop each other from flying too high, by using Daedalus as a reference point.

That's just how I see it. I think there's an Ayla out there for all of us, you just haven't necessarily met them yet.
