This is refering to capitalism, as in many of their songs. Capitalism causes us to go against each other. It says that we don't need homes and shoes or anything practical, but just weapons to fight against each other and destroy each other in our greed. And that is why it is the "cannibal animal" causing us to try and destroy our own kind in our own greed, instead of helping each other out and living in peace. The war is in our capitalist societ, between our own people. |

that is refering to how capitalism is all about a bunch of people indulging in greed. It also talks about how American society is totally fake because we strive to get more and more money through greed, and in the end, where does that get us? Nowhere, because money is meaningless. |

this is my favorite Smoking Popes song. I just love the "butter on a summer day when she's around" line. I think a lot of us can relate to this song.
