Hozier – Take Me to Church Lyrics 9 years ago
First off, let me say that this is how music should be. A beautiful combination of well written and meaningful lyrics, great music and a talented musician to bring it all together. I love this song. Below, I added a link to an interview with the artist about what this song means to him.

Death Cab for Cutie – Death of an Interior Decorator Lyrics 9 years ago
I've always adored this album for the fact that it is a story. A story from the first track to the last. So much so that the melodies and rhythms of some songs morph into the next. This band has and will always be my favorite because they are creative in a way that most musicians can't fathom. I think your analysis of this album is pretty much spot on and I loved reading it laid out from start to finish. Thank you

Gavin DeGraw – Best I Ever Had Lyrics 10 years ago
I think this song is talking about a woman that he met. Someone that he had no intentions of getting serious with; he just wanted a quick fling. Now he looks back on it and realizes that there was something there. He is reminded of her in different ways, but he has no way of getting in touch with her because he's lost all of his ties with her and barely knew her to begin with.

Death Cab for Cutie – Company Calls Epilogue Lyrics 10 years ago
I agree with this very well thought out and well worded interpretation. The only thing that I got that was different from yours was the stanza that says

""When they lay down the fish will swim upstream
and I'll contest, but they won't listen
when the casualty rate's near 100%,
and there isn't a pension for second best or for hardly moving..."

I believe he is talking in general about the marriage between the woman he loves and the man that she is with. The swimming upstream, to me, refers to an unnatural movement. Them being together is unnatural to the narrator because he believes he is the one for her. He could argue this point but nobody would listen. She won't change her mind because she's already made her decision. And even though the failure rate for marriage is so high (near 100%) he doesn't think that he would stand a chance if given a second opportunity with her. There is no reward for second best.

This song is heartbreakingly beautiful.

The Postal Service – This Place Is a Prison Lyrics 11 years ago
I think maybe the singer is talking about the world he lives in while doing his music. Maybe he feels trapped, like he is in a sea of people who claim to be his friends and are only doing so to share the light that he is in. They party, do drugs and get cheap thrills, and he pretends to enjoy himself a midst all of that, but he knows that the fast paced life that he is constantly engaged in isn't how the real world is. He feels like he is stuck in a world of make believe and longs to have a dose of reality.

There are guards at the on-ramps
Armed to the teeth
And you may case the grounds
From the Cascades to Puget Sound
But you are not permitted to leave

He may be talking about his security. Keeping people away from him, but also keeping him locked away into this prison of false happiness. He has the ability to go to all of these different places to perform his music but he can never truly LIVE out of the box that he has placed himself in.

City and Colour – Thirst Lyrics 11 years ago
I believe he is referring to a love that he truly believed in. A love that pulled him out of a dark place and one that he put all his trust in. She fed him lies, saying that they were more than what she really felt for him. She led him on, making him feel comfortable and happy with what they had, knowing that she had something else going on that he didn't know about. Now he is realizing that their love was a lie. He says that she was like a snake charmer, mesmerizing him with the idea of love when all along she was just playing him. Now that he knows that what she was giving him was not real, he could care less about her. He wants to leave her alone and lonely, for the wolves and the thieves.

Ed Sheeran – The A Team Lyrics 11 years ago
Wow, your comment brought a tear to my eye. This is an incredibly deep and touching song, and I hope that it gives you positive feelings when you hear it. Every girl, regardless of what she is or has been through, is an angel.

Death Cab for Cutie – A Lack of Color Lyrics 11 years ago
I love what you have to say about this. I recognized what he was saying in terms of his brain correcting his vision, but I had never thought of the reference to color. In addition, I think that the metaphor that he is trying to convey with these facts is that she perceives their relationship to have been dull and bland; When, in his mind, he thought it was extraordinary being with her. He had trouble expressing himself and his feelings but he is trying to reassure her that they WERE there and that they were very strong.

Just my guess =P

Death Cab for Cutie – We Looked Like Giants Lyrics 11 years ago
With that in mind, the song meaning is much more clear to me. It seems as if he is attending this religious school by day and at night he is engaging in some very "non- religious" activities with a girl he cares about very much. When he says that he says "I don't know about you but I swear on my name they could smell it on me.
But I've never been to good with secrets" it makes me think of his guilt and how he feels like he's doing something so wrong that it seeps from his pores and everyone will eventually notice.

Death Cab for Cutie – Tiny Vessels Lyrics 11 years ago
hmmm, I never thought of these lyrics referring to two separate women but I have always thought it strange that a woman would believe a man telling him he loved her after only 2 weeks. This brings a whole new depth to this song.

Sara Bareilles – One Sweet Love Lyrics 11 years ago
I adore this song because it's as if she's translated the feelings directly from my own heart.

To me, this song is talking about the love of a man that she knows very well in every way, and cares for more powerfully than anything or anyone else, but she has never actually met this person. She feels his presence even though he's not there and she knows that he is the only one for her.

It seems as though she is also doubtful that maybe she missed him at some point, due to her previous relationships with men who were not "the one."
"-Time that I've taken. I pray it's not wasted-"

Maybe she has met him but the timing wasn't right and she didn't realize it; letting him slip through her fingers. But she is willing to wait as long as she needs to if his love is worth waiting for.

This song, and her lyrics or so beautifully put together that it paints a picture for your heart.
