He’s also criticizing his partner’s art. Mentions “apt chops” but “form slops” and “graffiti’s lazy”. Sounds like artistic critique from another artist.

Such a great song. Absolutely love it. Sounds like a relationship taken too far and then realizing it’s not working and that you don’t even want that level of a relationship.

Im pretty sure it’s 8 beats into 6 throughout. The beginning of 6 has the guitars sustaining for the 6th beat, so it kinda sounds like 5 but its not. Probably 8/8 and 6/8.

Hoover – Private Lyrics 4 years ago
Seems like a song about people meddling in your life without your consent and how they should really mind their own business and stop because it’s uninvited and causing more problems for the person. Most likely addressing someone who has the legal or moral authority to meddle in their life (e.g. parents, the government, police, etc). The line, “Never asked you to take me to war” really strikes deep with me and shows he’s not just talking about small things like a child with their toys. This invasion of privacy is on a large scale.

and yet this one most likely is about drugs for sure...Intravenous ones, though it sounds like a metaphor for a relationship too.

Sarah Jaffe – Clementine Lyrics 8 years ago
I think definitely a reference to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a file about undergoing a procedure to forget your past obsessions of a person. Kate Winslet's character's name was Clementine and she underwent the forgetting procedure.

In this songs case, it seems more generalized like a desire to forget a lot of things in addition to any one person and even includes other decisions about drinking and/or drugs. Just bad decisions in general that one wants to forget about.

Yeah, I think so. She wants to forget what has happened in relationships of the past.

Hightide Hotel – Weekends Lyrics 8 years ago
Pretty clearly a song about not having much of a life outside of M-F work and longing for past friendships and a past life and how the feeling especially hits home on a weekend. Your work life may be fulfilling (though maybe more a distraction from your home life), but the weekend comes, and loneliness sets in and makes you long for a familiar friend to make you feel at home.

Near the end of the song, I think it nails down the feeling of how you may long for being at work over the weekend since you enjoy being around your coworkers, but you don't feel at home there either. So, basically being torn between working (and the stress) with your friends or home alone without the work stress but no familiar faces.

Brilliant and honest. Just like a good song should be. I can definitely relate.

Kaki King – Spit It Back In My Mouth Lyrics 9 years ago
Awesome song!!! Kaki King is SO TALENTED. I'm pretty sure the end anthem says, "this love is real, don't WRITE it down".

Not sure on the exact meaning, but definitely about how fleeting and temporary (or even fake) love can be, and how much we can't control it, and how we can't rely on anyone to always be there and in love. The lyric about "every man for himself has become our creed" may indicate that.

Also, the part at the end may be a riff on how love is real for only short moments in time and not to expect anything more, savor it while it lasts, and don't try to pin it down or define it as an everlasting feeling.
