Kamelot – March Of Mephisto Lyrics 11 years ago
I think this is basically about devil's deception. He prays on people's weaknesses under the false account he's their savior and leads them to their doom, as shown when Khan leads the girl to the edge of the building. Both Khan and Shagrath seem to be playing the devil in the music video, a rather interesting concept if I do say so myself.

Heaven & Hell – Bible Black Lyrics 11 years ago
I think this song is actually criticism towards the heavy metal bands who promote satanism, most of which unwittingly enable devil worship to drive more of the youth, who have abandoned spirituality to turn towards the dark side, that fate which most of said bands also suffered. The "bible black" represents the satanic bible, and so satanism.

Crimson Glory – Lost Reflections Lyrics 11 years ago
Song talks about losing your sanity. Its like a metal equivalent of Brain Damage.

Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics 11 years ago
When the government has enough power, it can do anything good or bad with it. If the government feeds the public, they can also starve the public, and they can punish who they wish for whatever reason. This song is clearly in opposition to those socialists advocating big government.

Bad Religion – American Jesus Lyrics 11 years ago
Your opinion makes a lot of sense. And its also important to remember that when Jesus was asked if he was going to save the Jews from the Romans, Jesus said that he is there for all of man. He wouldn't take sides nationally, only morally/spiritually.

Bad Religion – American Jesus Lyrics 11 years ago
But yes. I do believe the song is about that. I can't say I agree with the song exactly for the reasons I gave you, but its a good one nonetheless.

Bad Religion – American Jesus Lyrics 11 years ago
Its not just Americans that believed this in accordance with Christianity but all human races of all religions. Romans persecuted Christians and Jews in the name of their gods and the druids used the Wickerman to burn people and animals for their gods. Christians in Europe started the witch trials and the Spanish Inquisition and the Jewish rabbis persecuted Jesus because of their beliefs. Muslim terrorists kill and fight with Israel for Allah and their holy land. Holy wars like that between the Crusades and Sarasans because of their religions. The danger of religion is not the belief systems themselves but the fact that mortals are used to represent immortals, and humanity is always corruptable, especially when holding that type of power and influence. Same thing with the government.

Arch Enemy – Savage Messiah Lyrics 11 years ago
I don't think this song is about Jesus, but the Antichrist. In the Book of Revelations, they say he will deceive and destroy people presented as the Messiah, like the song seems to describe

Death Angel – The Devil Incarnate Lyrics 11 years ago
I'm personally not sure if i agree with this message because I dabble a lot in theology and believe anything not explicitly known is possible, but its still a good song.

submissions
Iced Earth – Dante's Inferno Lyrics 11 years ago
Scratch that. I'm not sure if Jon Schaffer is Christian but he does dabble a lot in theology and American conservatism. Basically this song is the story of Dante's Inferno which is one of three parts to the Divine Comedy (despite the name, I'm pretty sure the saga isn't comedy at all).

Pink Floyd – What Shall We Do Now? Lyrics 11 years ago
I think its a prelude to Young Lust, discussing that kids are ignorant and curious in this song, so they'll end up getting involved in sex in the next song.

Gamma Ray – The Heart of the Unicorn Lyrics 11 years ago
Armageddon was another great song they did

submissions
Gamma Ray – The Heart of the Unicorn Lyrics 11 years ago
I think this song is about the Apocalypse, just like Armageddon.

Overkill – Deny The Cross Lyrics 11 years ago
I'm fine with Atheist songs, so long as their not anti-spiritual or anti-christian

submissions
Overkill – Deny The Cross Lyrics 11 years ago
I agree with Doolmon. I don't like bands that promote a very anti-christian message. It's not really better than promoting an anti-semitic message.

Epica – Kingdom of Heaven (A New Age Dawns, Part V) Lyrics 11 years ago
That's a very conservative interpretation. Good for you but I think that the overall saga A New Saga Begins talks about the developement of science, spirituality, civilization and how the individual should react to all of this. Kingdom of Heaven is just a piece of the meaning.

submissions
Iron Maiden – The Number Of The Beast Lyrics 11 years ago
I don't think it is about satanism. I think it is actually about St. John's vision of the Apocalypse. It's important to note that in his prediction many people would be drawn to the devil in the Apocalypse like it was satanic. Iron Maiden also stresses the point that it was a dream but it seemed to real to be just that. And the number of the beast is said to start the apocalypse, hello? The first lyrics were even taken from the book of revelations.

Machine Head – Halo Lyrics 11 years ago
You do make some sense MetalMachine, although I don't think that's why they were created just how they turned out. Another mistake Robb made about this song is that Christianity and the Church are fundamentally two very different properties. The Christian faith is all about Jesus, whose teachers the Church seems to have contradicted in the past. However, it hasn't been the Catholic Church alone who's made that mistake because once the Protestants got into power they put similar persecutions on the Catholics as vice versa. Plus the Pagan, Muslim, and Jewish leaders have also been known to abuse their religious rights in the past. Plus there's kings, presidents, governors, generals, mayors, dictators, teachers, etc. so it ultimately comes down to humans in general that have power are prone to abusing it.

Machine Head – Halo Lyrics 11 years ago
This is a great song musically but you Christians are not generally intolerant and the message of this song is kinda of unfair to the Church. The fundamentalists are, so if you wanna criticize them feel free but I know plenty of Christians that are perfectly tolerant (and I'm not one of them). And as the Church has made a lot of big mistakes in the past, between the witch trials ant he inquisition and Galileo but don't accuse Christianity of making those mistakes because Christianity is really Jesus, whose teachings the Church pretty much didn't follow in the Middle Ages. So go right ahead and blame the Church but don't blame the Christian faith. And if you're gonna blame the Church than also blame the Jewish, Muslim, and Pagan leaders in the past who have also abused their religious authority. Else ways your not consistent with your beliefs.

Dying Fetus – Homicidal Retribution Lyrics 11 years ago
It's about how society has begun to act much easier on those undeserving of such treatment; people who show understanding/sympathy for terrorists, communists, satanists, etc as part of the whole progressive/liberal movement.

Nightwish – Slow, Love, Slow Lyrics 11 years ago
I don't get how you guys (estelindis and Gsimenon) got vampires from this. It seems to more reference the loved ones of Tom Whitman, of who most of the album is about. The main plot of the story is that Whitman has a mental illness and has been traveling through the fantasies of his own mind to reclaim all the loved ones that he forgot, especially his daughter and old girlfriend.

Nightwish – Forever Yours Lyrics 11 years ago
It's not a bad songs but I much prefer their heavier and more symphonic works which is like, 95% of the band.

Blind Guardian – Time Stands Still (At the Iron Hill) Lyrics 11 years ago
Although this song is about Fingolfin, the Iron Hill title could reference Gondolin the Hidden City because it is shrouded in darkness as if time stands still in it and right after that song the next song which talks all about the city's fall.

Nightwish – Last Ride Of The Day Lyrics 11 years ago
I think this song is about when you're time is about come (like you only have a month to live) you make the most of it and do all that you wanted to do right before death.

Nightwish – Scaretale Lyrics 11 years ago
I don't think this song has any actual meaning or message behind it. I think its just about a child's nightmares

Metallica – The Unforgiven III Lyrics 11 years ago
The Unforgiven, parts I, II, and III, is a rock opera that discusses James Hetfield's childhood as a Christian scientist. The first part talks about him being deprived of his thought and opinions as part of the cult. The second part talks about how he loved his family nonetheless and the third part talks about his mother's conscious death and the blame he puts on himself for it.

Atreyu – Doomsday Lyrics 11 years ago
It's obviously about the outcome of the apocalypse.

submissions
Arch Enemy – Nemesis Lyrics 11 years ago
That's a very good observation. If that is the meaning then that would be interesting because although Arch Enemy is a heavy metal band, that seems like it would be a punk national anthem.

Gamma Ray – The Heart of the Unicorn Lyrics 11 years ago
Or perhaps it may be about how society's restrictions make you feel like you're torn to pieces, kinda like The Wall only without the isolation storyline.

submissions
Gamma Ray – The Heart of the Unicorn Lyrics 11 years ago
Scratch that. This is more speed metal than power metal. I actually think it talks about the apocalypse and that the never ending struggle between good and evil is "drowning" the earth.

Its about Judas' betrayal against Jesus. Its an interesting song for Death Angel because most of their songs are atheistic and that's a biblical reference.

Sabaton – Burn Your Crosses Lyrics 11 years ago
Then why do they say Christ has only caused death and violence. The fact that they speak against Jesus goes beyond being anti-religious to being anti-spiritual.

submissions
Sabaton – Burn Your Crosses Lyrics 11 years ago
Wow this song is extremely anti-christian and anti-spiritual. It would definitely fall in the black metal category of music and definitely spreads the rumors of heavy metal being linked to Satan. I lost respect for Sabaton for creating this song.

Tool – Aenema Lyrics 11 years ago
I think the song is meant to make fun of all those conspiracy theorists and other nuts that say the world is gonna end. Because they keep saying it every four years and they really are full of crap (hence the lyrics i certainly hope the world will end I could sure use a break from this same old shit).

Tool – Die Eier Von Satan Lyrics 11 years ago
The name is probably a reference to that the Nazis were so horrible that they would be compared to Satan but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the song itself.

Symphony X – Eve of Seduction Lyrics 11 years ago
Yes but if you aline the all the songs in accordance with Genesis, it is certainly a connected story of that. This is what you would get
Part I: Oculus ex Inferni: Lucifer betrays God and falls from Heaven
Part II: Set the World on Fire + Domination both mean this: Lucifer takes over hell and plans to corrupt mankind
Part III: The Serpent's Kiss: Lucifer tempts Eve to eat from an apple of the tree of knowledge
Part IV: The Sacrifice: Eve tempts Adam to eat another apple from the tree of life
Part V: Paradise Lost: Adam and Eve are forced out of the Garden of Eden (aka the paradise)
Part VI: Seven: Lucifer watches in joy as mankind is quickly succumbed to his whim, a fall of man that started with Adam and Eve.
Part VII: Eve of Seduction: Lucifer becomes obsessed with claiming the souls of man that he corrupted and he explains that he will "he'll tear them apart so long as they never let him go" and that he will never let them go
Part VIII: The Walls of Babylon: Some among man try to do good and get away from Satan, hence they "tear down the walls of Babylon," meaning get away stop the Whore of Babylon
Part IX: Revelation: The goodness spreads as more philosophers and warriors convince others to do good and hence religions, spiritualities, and ethical philosophies are born

Symphony X – The Damnation Game Lyrics 11 years ago
Its a lot like Paradise Lost in that it says that if you give in to the devil's temptation, the devil's domain is where you'll go, that of Hell.

Def Leppard – Pour Some Sugar On Me Lyrics 11 years ago
I think you just answered that question. Def Leppard did better songs than this, particularly from their debut album On Through the Night. Its completely commercialized which is why its all about sex; because its more pop than rock. So those guys who probably dislike it are probably right to say it sucks from a musical point of view.

Metallica – ...And Justice for All Lyrics 11 years ago
Politicians of all parties are hypocrites because they make promises about liberty and freedom and hope and a better country but once you bring them into power all that oath is in vain. And so freedom and justice aren't really dominant America so calling for the sarcastic name of the song "...and justice for all" and the picture of the album of the same name symbolizing how americans destroy justice and freedom, that which they fought to save. It's really just a metal version of Won't Get Fooled Again.

Kamelot – Memento Mori Lyrics 11 years ago
Yeah this is a great song with the band to match but Kamelot should not have brought Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir into the album. That was a mistake as far as I'm concerned

Symphony X – Seven Lyrics 11 years ago
Paradise Lost is a definite story, reflecting on Genesis, all except for My Sacrifice. If you take all the other songs in it and order them in accordance with Genesis. This is what it will look like.
1. Domination-Lucifer is banished from heaven and conquers hell, thus renamed Satan.
2. Oculus Ex Inferni/Set the World on Fire-Talks about what Lucifer now is, Satan, the devil, the deceiver, pure evil, no longer among angels.
3. Serpent's Kiss-Lucifer tempts Adam
4. Eve of Seduction-Lucifer tempts Eve
5. Paradise Lost-Adam and Eve are forced out of the garden
6. Seven-Mankind's burden of the sin and corruption their ancestors Adam and Eve, has brought unto them.
7. Walls of Babylon-Prediction of the apocalypse according to both mankind and the devil.
8. Revelation-Epilogue of the story; explains that good and evil will never stop encircling and battling, that there will never be a real outcome.

I respect that about Korpiklaani

Nightwish – Meadows of Heaven Lyrics 11 years ago
Yes and the music is even better. I especially love the last part of the song. It's so epic and the vocals seem to draw from gospel music and r&b. Tuomas is probably one of the most passionate artists in musical history to have founded a band like Nightwish.

submissions
Iced Earth – Burnt Offerings Lyrics 11 years ago
I think the meaning behind this song is that blood sacrifice is evil. Iced Earth has been known to make a lot of songs with very intense, explicit lyrics concerning issues with theology, about God/Jesus, the devil, angels, heaven, hell, the apocalypse, and corruption among religious leaders. A few of their later albums are also about science-fiction and American history. In case anyone is wondering Joh Schaffer is a definite conservative.

Dream Theater – On the Backs of Angels Lyrics 11 years ago
Its an outcry against the liberal agenda that intensified with Obama's rise to power (and yes that is what I'm calling it) in 2008 which is when the song was released.
If you notice the lyrics: You're blinded by your hunger
Beware your days are numbered
These reference how extended social security drives poor people to never work and earn a living and rely completely on the government to make ends meet

And notice the lyrics:
Tears fall from the shameless
Shelter me, guide me to the edge of the water
Selfless are the righteous
Burden me, lead me like a lamb to the slaughter
Blurring lines drawn in between
What is right and what is wrong
Victims on the radar string us along

These reference a few things
1. The social liberals claiming to be selfless, righteous heroes and what they're doing is a noble deed but what they're doing is leading people astray, sheltering them, but burdening them to the government as well
2. The politicians have convinced the media that the left-wing plan is right (victims on the radar) and from the media the parents and schools have been stringed and from them the youth (string us along). Those who have been convinced lose their free will and their sense of reason (what is right and what is wrong).

Personally I think Dream Theater is absolutely right and favorite this song among the band's works, along with Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.
