Dustin Kensrue – Please Come Home Lyrics
|
I have always loved this song, it is a beautiful melody and his voice sounds amazing on it. But I dont think I have ever really thought about the lyrics. I know that Dustin sings about the gospel and God often, but I never thought about this song in that context. I always thought just about a general father son relationship.
I found a video today of Dusting talking about the meaning of the song, and I listened to it again listening to the lyrics and paying really close attention to them now that I knew the true context of the song and cried my eyes out. It really hit home for me. I dont think I will ever be able to listen to this or sing this without crying ever again. Especially "But I know what you're thinking, that you troubled me enough Nothing could ever separate you from my love"
Here is the video I watched of him talking about it and playing it acoustic.

I actually really like this interpretation. And I think Jesse would find something beautiful in the irony of him singing the lyrics. Not sure if its right, but I think its still a cool idea, and I think it totally works |

Thrice – The Whaler Lyrics

This is definitely one of my favorite songs by them. It is so personal, beautiful, and chilling.
It is definitely a metaphor about Dustin having to leave and be away from his family a lot.
It gives me chills every time I listen to the song when I hear the contrast between the wife and the daughter speaking to him. The naive daughter asks "When are you coming home" but the wife asks "Will you be coming home" because she knows there is always a chance he might not. So beautiful yet cold and hair raising. |

Manchester Orchestra – Pensacola Lyrics

In an interview for Simple Math they you can find on their Youtube channel Andy was asked what the inspiration behind the song was and he said:
"There is a lot of inspiration in the city of Pensacola because it was one of the few places that we played for a long time before anybody ever knew who we were... That song has a lot to do with those two disgustingly amazing and beautiful years that we spent touring there" |

Manchester Orchestra – Virgin Lyrics

In an interview that you can find on their Youtube channel, Andy was asked if this song title related to their Album Im Like a Virgin Losing A Chils and he said very much so Yes.
Chris has also said in interviews that this is kind of a song to the fans. You can see that with the line "you built this house with your hands and your time and your blood"
In the interview on their Youtube Channel Andy talked about the song and said:
"The song is a lyrical story, it is talking about losing your virginity, losing your band's virginity, which means like you know releasing your first album and then everybody questioning you after it and questioning what you do compared to it. Its something to our fans, and theres also some relation to a child's innocence and a child losing faith as they enter adulthood.
Like with the never going to be the same line. Never going to be the same means the same thing as having sex for the first time, as it does releasing your record for the first time, as it does for a 5 year old who realizes that he would rather steal the candybar than work to get it." |

Straylight Run – Buttoned Down Lyrics
|
I feel like this song is about a death, one that he feels like he should have been watching out for, so maybe like suicide or drugs or something. Time cant erase the death. The line "When was it that you lost your soul" also makes me think of death and suicide a little bit.
I think the song is called Buttoned Down because he is in a nice Button down shirt for a funeral. I think he might be saying he feels like this person deserves his best so he is going to dress up real nice in a button down shirt. |

For some reason, when he sings Buttoned Down it makes me think of a nice button down shirt and some of these lyrics kind of make it seem like someone has died/there was a death of someone they knew and he is in a nice buttoned down shirt for the funeral or something |

The Early November – That's Not Your Real Name Lyrics

I love the lines
"Brake off shake down, Im tired of obeying the breeze"
I like that its backwards from how you would normally say those phrases (Shake Off, break down) to prove that he is tired of just going with the norm. |

The Early November – A Stain On the Carpet Lyrics

I love this song so much. I feel like it might be sort of about him traveling a lot and being gone a lot and away from someone he loves. He tells the person that no matter how long he is gone, the stain will always be there as a reminder of him being there.
This might be totally wrong, but thats what I though of. |

I think that liesarelies is right. He is talking about being a perfectionist and how he is lonely because he pushes everyone away because of it and the girl does too.
I love that he describes the need to be perfect as a disease. Those lines give me chills. |

Lydia – Best Nights Lyrics

In a video I watched of them performing this song Leighton says
"This was a song that was kind of half written in Arizona half written in California. I moved to California about a year ago and this is probably the first song I finished off of the brand new record (Paint it Golden) that we put out and I guess its kind of written about relationships that I had in Arizona and then in California as well and so its kind of a mash-up of the whole last year of my life" |

Lydia – Stay Awake Lyrics
|
This sounds to me like two people in a relationship. Now the girl moved away and the narrator says "cover up for the rain" or the hardships that are going to threaten their relationship now that they are so far away from each other and taking a a break. And he is saying that neither of them stand a chance in being in this long distance relationship type thing. Whether they are taking a break, or broken up, or whatever, their relationship is going to be damaged, but I think he still loves her a lot |

Lydia – This Is Twice Now Lyrics
|
For some reason I feel like this song is about a relationship with a bit of unrequited love sort of. Like the girl is giving him in ultimatum with the line "Tell me its you or nothing at all"
Then when he sings "I stole your soul because you said I'd never be able" This makes me think that one of the biggest reasons the narrator is still in this relationship is because he was told he would never get the girl to love him.
Then I think he sings "But all the whole world is still on my string" to say that he still has his whole life ahead of him. He still has so much yet to see and do in this world that he doesn't want to be held back by a committed relationship. |

The Early November – Digital Age Lyrics
|
This is clearly about the age of technology that we are living in now. Everything is digital. Phones, computers, everything else. You don't need to know how to spell because of auto correct.
And this has affected the music industry greatly. They have whole movies, concerts, and television shows that can be streamed live across the world.
A lot of bands that are making it big nowadays don't even make music with real instruments; they use computers to make the songs. And that's what Ace is talking about. He wants to make songs that computers can't automate and digitalize. I think that's why the music behind the lyrics is so simple and stripped down in this song. He wanted it to be as natural as possible.
The crayons and paints line is about creativity I think. Everything is typed nowadays, so its like we have been programmed to put away all other writing utensils that inspire creativity, that bring life and magic to the world. Everything is black and white and typed in print.
Love this song. Definitely one of my favorite songs off the album, and absolutely one of my favorite songs ever by any band! |

Bright Eyes – From a Balance Beam Lyrics

I dont know if I agree that he is a prisoner to God, because he says "But in all of my salvation I still felt imprisoned inside
That holding cell that is MYSELF"
I think he is saying that just because you accept Christ and become saved doesnt mean that your life is going to automatically right away change and be better, he still has issues he needs to work through on himself |

Manchester Orchestra – Don't Let Them See You Cry Lyrics
| 12 years ago
|
Coco, I dont think pudvan is trying to say that this is the meaning that Andy was thinking about when he wrote it, but isnt the beauty of music that you can have multiple meanings for yourself of a song? It can mean different things to different people at different times in their lives. pudvan was just throwing this idea out there as another way to look at the song. |
