Nightwish – Ghost Love Score Lyrics 9 years ago
I think a lot of people are missing the obvious here-I mean the title of the song is GHOST Love Score.

As in, the female lover in question isn't corporeal.

She is essentially wondering if she should re-incarnate for her lover, whom she loves dearly, but she is afraid of what living in 3D will do to their relationship. While she sings, "If you be the one to cut me, I'll bleed forever", that is always the risk of existing in meatspace, even if he treats her like a goddess. And in the process she wants to be redeemed back into childhood, too.

The music video strongly implies a comparison between the falcon and the girl.

This is probably DCD's most intense cut, ever; puts you into a deep trance that is hard to get out of.

All about freedom and trying to find your path to truth with the help of your female muse (who rains "salt brined tears" onto your tongue), inspiring you to reach the heights that she has scaled.

Delerium – A Poem For Byzantium Lyrics 11 years ago
This album was the soundtrack to my South African trip (with all of the African animals on the cover and such). I had originally gone there to meet a lady whom I was corresponding with via email (I'm a Yank). Well, that fell through and we went our separate ways, I heading to the coast to continue my vacation.

Well, as I am driving into St. Lucia Bay, this song comes on, one whose lyrics I hadn't paid much attention to by that point. Turned out it perfectly summed up what had happened between myself and the woman in question:

"Unforbidden shadows of you formed yesterday
I ran away to a room here on the bay
Interrupted life again, another new beginning
Where the silence echoes
You're no longer with me"

And not only that, but the other stanzas fit perfectly too:

"Through the darkness
I would walk in the streets"

I recall a very enchanting nighttime walk through the streets of said town...

"Looking out to a different sky will disengage me"

I had been going agog at all of the southern constellations and other astronomical sights (such as the Southern Cross)...

"I do not seek and not intend to find
A calmer ocean or a sun that'll never be mine" (yes above lyric is incorrect here)

I took my first ever swim in the Indian Ocean that weekend, and on top of that there was a partial eclipse of the sun, one not visible from the States.

Ride – Unfamiliar Lyrics 11 years ago
"Now you're looking back where everything seems _here_." Pretty sure that last word is "real", not "here", but with a person speaking the Queen's English it can be pretty hard to parse those syllables (at least for a Yank like me).

Anyway, this song is wayy deep for one with such few lyrics.

Delerium – Poem For Byzantium Lyrics 11 years ago
This album was the soundtrack for a trip I took to South Africa 11 years ago-to meet a women whom I had met online.

Long story short, our romance as such evaporated into the illusion it always was, and I continued my trip alone after about a week. This song was playing as I was driving into the entrance to St. Lucia Bay, at which point I realized that it was perfectly describing my situation!

"I ran away, to a room here on the bay"

"Through the darkness I would walk in the streets"

[The town was very beautiful at nighttime I should add]

"Looking out to a different sky will disengage me"

[This trip was my first chance to see the sights of the southern sky, such as the Southern Cross]

"I do not seek and do not intend to find
A calmer ocean or a sun that'll never be mine" [Error above in that last phrase]

[I took my first swim ever in the Indian Ocean that weekend, and on top of that there was a partial solar eclipse that was not visible from North America]

Pretty freaky, huh?

"Coriander Stem in Rose of Hay" has always bugged me-I just came on here to say it simply HAS to be "Rows of Hay", which makes a lot more sense, but I just found an interview where Stipe said it was "Rose". Well, this is Michael Stipe we are talking about, not about to argue with him.

"Where no track's on the bog they are flying:"

should be

"Winnow tracks on the bog they are flying:"

Snipe often making a winnowing sound when they are flying around. I know (having had the album in question) that the lyrics are printed on the sleeve, but in most cases they are probably penned by someone other than the artist who is simply guessing at what they are, when in doubt.

The line,

"Did you feel the end before the suns of mothers"

should instead be

"Did you feel the endings of the sons and mothers"

I esp. like the "intentional" mispronounciation in the last stanza-"Now what is real" (i.e. the present moment)

Well, I found my new horizons and gravities and sights in nature; I recently had a dream where I was joyfully exploring each bird that came across my path, and this song was playing. When the song got to the line "Harder to wake Galileo", I was awakened by my alarm clock the very instant the line concluded. The kicker is that I had deliberately changed my sleep schedule and was waking up earlier to, yes, get outside earlier to catch the early birds!

To me this is about my yard at my old house on the river, and all the things that nature taught me there (as the "old voice" says at the end). Yes the cypress trees and the nightbirds and everything.
