Talking Heads – Lifetime Piling Up Lyrics | 7 years ago |
i really feel like this song is about getting high and then crashing a car, where he can see his lifetime piling up, like either the bodies and cars of his friends or when you can see you're entire life flash before your eyes |
Vampire Weekend – Ya Hey Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I don't think the song is denying or claiming god to be real, it's just asking God many questions. The verses ask how could you love all the world (the broken machine), when so many don't love you? They don't appreciate all that you do and refuse to acknowledge it (secret). In the first verse, he seems rather unbelieving, but he For the "let it go"s, first he says he doesn't care whether he sins or not, because who would care? Secondly he says that God lets it go, since he loves us all anyway. "who could ever live that way?" means "how could you live with all this suffering and all who don't love you, but you still stay with us?", which could be seen as a good thing or a bad Whatever "ut deo" means (as god makes the most sense), he pronounces it in a way to sound like "what." In the lyric video, they replace ut deo with a "?", which to means it's like "What God?" and then the voices chant in the background "Ya Hey", so it's answering him. "What God? Ya Hey!" Ya Hey is that God. Basically it's wondering how God could be so many things that don't make sense, but accepting that the whole point of God is to wonder. He never says whether he believes in God. |
Vampire Weekend – Oxford Comma Lyrics | 10 years ago |
To get rid of the oxford comma circlejerk, I understood your sentence differently than if you used an oxford comma. Small and ridiculous became one category, whereas small would be different from ridiculous. |

Julian Casablancas – 30 Minute Boyfriend Lyrics | 11 years ago |
i think its about a girl who has a boyfriend who she likes, but not really, and she cheats on him with julian, her best friend. then they don't know what to do with themselves afterwards. he wants to be with her, but he doesn't think she does so he leaves her alone, but she gets upset about it and their just trying to decipher each others feeling for each other |
The Strokes – Machu Picchu Lyrics | 11 years ago |
never mind, i get it now |
The Strokes – Machu Picchu Lyrics | 11 years ago |
i think julian needs to learn grammar. wouldn't it be girlfriends instead of girlfriend's, because the apostrophe is the sign of possessive case and nothiing belongs to the girlfriend in the sentence |
The Strokes – Is This It Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think its about how disappointing sex can be (meaningless like picking someone up in a bar or meaningful). How is was supposed to be the most amazing thing ever, and then once its done you're like "is this it? is this the greatest thing that could happen" It makes most sense in the second verse, because they said it would be fantastic, but to him the only real outcome is children. then in the third is saying in hindsight what is should be like and kind of explaining his reasoning. It could be about a relationship too, or life in general. |
Arctic Monkeys – Secret Door Lyrics | 11 years ago |
to be quick and short with my interpretation, i'll just go to this. i think that the girl in the song, famous or just enchanting, is used to being in the spotlight and when he sees her he kinda doesn't notice or doesn't care about her fame, literal or metaphorical. She takes him away and shows him how she really is and hes amazed by her ability to put on a facade to the the others, paparazzi or people. and the secret door is an imaginary barrier that separates her facade and her. |
Arctic Monkeys – Stickin' to the Floor Lyrics | 11 years ago |
pretty sure these are the right lyrics Won't somebody let me out! Don't wanna stick around no more I'm sick of looking at you strange I'm sick of stickin' to the floor Not one of you has got an ounce of style in you said not one of you, no Fuck it all and break your nose and keep on pushing you around and Keep on steeping on your toes and pick you up when you fall down Not one of you's got an ounce of style in you Said not one of you, oh no Not one of you's got an ounce of style in you, no said not one of you, no and i see the song as him at a night club or something and isnt having a good time because everyone there is trendy and followers, and he kinda wants to let go of his morals and "break your nose" because they aggrevate him so much. and hes trying to let them know how hes sick of sticking to the floor, or to me, stickin to the trends |
Arctic Monkeys – Library Pictures Lyrics | 11 years ago |
i could be definitely wrong, but i see this as like a reminisce of the past. "library pictures" could be like looking through a scrapbook, a library of pictures. and all the no meaning lyrics come together to mean that he has "forgotten where he's been" and doesn't really understand his past. to get deeper into it, it could be about the ride to fame. the library pictures could be like photoshoots or concerts or anything, and the quickening canoe and the trip to the moon could be about how Am got to fame so quickly, you don't really understand how it happens. The metaphors, curly straws and goo could be about his lyrics, how some are meaningful and some are just meaningless. and the last to lines could be about how it was almost random that they came to fame so quickly and got to the same level as other bands he thinks are shit, but famous. |

Arctic Monkeys – I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor Lyrics | 11 years ago |
i think instead of "bang, with a bang-go!" it's "bang, b-b-bang. Go!" i might be wrong, but that just seems to make a bit more sense and it sounds a bit more like that. |
Arctic Monkeys – I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor Lyrics | 11 years ago |
this song is more of a way to get attention for their band, hence its the first single. If you listened to any of their other songs, i have a feeling you would be swayed. for example, i'll assume you're a big fan of the beatles. they didn't start of with genius and political songs. they started with love songs. and wonce they were popular they wrote better and more meaningful songs. |

Phoenix – Second to None Lyrics | 11 years ago |
i think its about and ex boyfriend and girlfriend, and they slept together after they broke up. He's saying that even if they do get back together (he doesn't think that those are her intentions, he thinks that she's trying to rub her life in his face) it wouldn't work out because they've changed and he still doesn't trust her i'm not really sure what the first line means, maybe he's calling the girl second to none, because he still likes her. he wants to be with her but knows it wont work and he will get hurt again so he doesn't want to start a relationship again |
Phoenix – Lasso Lyrics | 11 years ago |
whether its about a relationship or just about life in general (i can see it as either), the singer is in love with this girl who, according to him, isnt living her life right. and he wants her to be with him and for her to follow her dreams, and subconsciously she does too. i think the lasso is representing something to get what she wants in life. where would you go, where would you go with a lasso? could you run into, could you run into, could you go and run into me? the singer is asking her if she could have anything she wants, what would it be? and then he's saying do you want to be with me? and i think she said she wants to be with him. and that leads to the next part where would you go, where would you go tied up to a lasso? could you run into, could you run into, could you go and run into me? i think now he's telling her where you are right now, tied up to someone else's lasso, she can't get what she wants. then its kind of a rhetorical question saying you can't get to me tied up to someone's elses lasso and basically the rest of the song is kind of elaborating on that, like you don't know how much better your life could be, and you should change and find your way so you can be happy. |
The Beatles – Hey Jude Lyrics | 11 years ago |
that was actually paul maccartney. if you listen closely, john say you've got the wrong CHORD (chord is the loudest word in that sentence), and then paul says fucking hell |
The Beatles – Hey Jude Lyrics | 11 years ago |
it makes me laugh that a lot of people think it's about heroin. i'm not saying they didn't do heroin, or that they didn't write songs about it, but i think saying its about drugs is taking it too far. i mean, why would he be telling a 5 year old to take heroin? what makes sense to me and adding some of what paul said is that it's about getting through the bad part of your life and making it better. even though paul said it was about john's son julian, it seems more like a song about getting over the bad part in general. it was originally hey jules, but paul thought it sounded better. he wrote it going to julian, so it makes sense. and it kind of angers me that john thought the song was about him. i mean, he's a brilliant songwriter and a excellent musician, but he was kind of a jealous ego-maniac. he was never very supportive of paul and the songs many people loved that paul wrote, maybe cause he saw paul as competition. and to be honest, john was never really a good father to julian. he didn't really spend time with him, and wasn''t very loving. he also wasn't a good husband, what with the affairs and everything. then paul writes this song to comfort him about the divorce his parents are having, and john thinks its about him! if you really believe the song is about heroin, then think that. i can't change your mind. thats your opinion. this is mine |
The Beatles – Rain Lyrics | 11 years ago |
even though delyla's and anyone else who wrote something like it interpretation's is good and creative, and for those who haven't read it, it basically said that rain is a bad point in their lives and they're overreacting, and when sun shines (a good point in their life) they don't take advantage of it. But john lennon said that "Rain" was "about people moaning about the weather all the time" so the song is to be taken literally. and i personally love the literal meaning. i hate it when people are like "no it's raining its such a depressing day i can't wait for sun!" and i'm thinking, im gonna go frolic in the rain later and have myself a damn good time. and when its sunny, people say "ugh its too sunny and i;m gonna under a tree. sun please go away" and don't like what they wanted the whole time. i love rain, and winter, and it annoys me when people complain. |
The Who – Join Together Lyrics | 11 years ago |

Queen – Another One Bites The Dust Lyrics | 11 years ago |
i always thought it was pretty obvious. Steve just broke up with his girlfriend, (well she dumped him). Extremely depressed and angry, (perhaps drunk or high) he's on a killing rampage shooting bullets of out his gun to anyone around him on his way to his ex-girlfriend to shoot her. is there really another way to explain it? |

The Killers – Somebody Told Me Lyrics | 11 years ago |

Phoenix – Countdown Lyrics | 11 years ago |
i think the "countdown" is to die. Its like a song about a person who is growing up, already past the prime of their life and is counting down to death. the first line, its saying unless you're before the prime, you're not dying. and the song is basically reviewing over your life, and preparing to die, because the best of your life gone. my favorite line is "do you remember when 21 years was old" its saying remember when 21 was all grown up, when we were in high school, looking foward to growing up, and now past 21 you realize that its still young and the real phase growing up isnt as great as people may think. or simply remember when we were younger than 21 and we thought it was old, and now at (age) we wish we could go back to 21. And to me the song is just filled with metaphors and ambiguity, and is up to interpretation by the way, from the phoenix website these are the real lyrics Countdown unless you’re juvenile let’s go God bless your miss somewhere We’re sick for the big sun It doesn’t matter what you did and if you did it like you been told True and everlasting that’s what you want True and everlasting that’s what you want Don’t say no your breakfast tears are gone Resist or let go, you’re borderline withdrawn Down, unlit from the bottom there is a misfit Better than it looks better than it looks Better than it looks better than it looks We’re sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick We’re sick for the big sun We rumble and trip trip trip trip trip trip I realize that too Hear the lonesome bell, Is this knowledge ? Ask forgiveness you know somewhere You’re fixed to an atom It doesn’t matter what you did and if you did it right let’s go Cruel and everlasting that’s what you want Cruel and everlasting that’s what you want Don’t say no your breakfast tears are wrong Do you remember when 21 years was old? Down unlit does it matters that you care the less ? Better than it looks better than it looks Better than it looks better than it looks We’re sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick We’re sick for the big sun We rumble and trip trip trip trip trip trip I realize that too True and everlasting, It didn’t last that long… We’re the lonesome, we’re the lonesome yell True and everlasting, It didn’t last that long… |
Phoenix – Girlfriend Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It kinda sounds like a suicide note. Like either the guy OR the girl (if it's a note, the girlfriend in the chorus could be "signed, girlfriend") is desperate to save the relationship, but nothing is working. the person is resorting to saying that they'll kill themselves unless you give me attention. without the attention, that person is gonna kill themselves, and this is the note that person writes |
Phoenix – Fences Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think it might be about protesting. It makes the most sense in the first verse. The fences might be protecting them from the lies that they (from what i dont know, maybe the government, or even possibly the media) are telling them. And the person who the song is directed at is probably a important person in the lies being told to the population If only Your necessary silouhette Unknown, join the dissidents They need another person to make the resistance strong, but it doesn't matter who it is Got carried away Now hiding from their lies and discords? Once remembered now forgotten The person (who joined the dissidents) was taken away from the lies that are brainwashing them, and the lies that were once remembered are now forgotten. Come roll the dice for me Roll the dice for me It's talking about how whoever told the lies and trying to take control of there lives Hold on better undone If really on your own Thinking this is fun? Feathers fallen from drapes Fold her into pieces Tied up and lace The first part is telling the person to actually think about what the lies are, and asking them if the person actually thinks that it makes sense. the second part is about how pieces from fact are taken and manipulated into something its not, and then covered up. Fences in a row Fences in a row Wired and protected In a row... Got carried away Thought I would've let you know Did you miss a message? Talking to the same person, its saying you got carried away by the lies and he thought that he would've been able to save them, but they must have missed a message. I know you still Would rather mess with me than get going She's been building up a castle in la He saying that the person still is attached to the lies told to them and would probably rather stay with them then face the truth and try to change. The last line makes me think it have something to do with the entertainment industry because that is what la reminds me of. Roll the dice for me Hold on better undone If really on your own Thinking this is fun? Feathers fallen from drapes Fold her into pieces Tied up and lace Fences in a row Fences in a row Wired and protected In a row... SO basically its a guy trying to get a person to think straight and ignore the media. Well thats what i think |
Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A. Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I don't understand why people say it's half patriotic, half not. It is in no way patriotic. Just because he is "Born in the USA" doesn't mean he wants to be. He means he was born into a country that's kinda messed up. But he has nowhere else to go so he stays, and tries to make the best of it. |
Phoenix – Long Distance Call Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I thought this girl's boyfriend died and his spirit walking around on earth trying to find, when she's trying to find him too. they communicate though a "long distance call" and they both want each other again Maybe he died in a bus crash? he was on a bus with nowhere to go and he was a messed up kid with no ideals and he got 26.10 and decided to use it on a bus. Maybe he was begging for money. He died, and now he is talking as his spirit. He thought them they would go along way but his death kinda got in the way. They are both walking around town, missing each other Some how they are communicating and he wants to be alive again so he can be with her. and he's complaining its never been like that, its never been this difficult I'm pretty sure this isnt right, but this is what i always saw it as |
The Police – Every Breath You Take Lyrics | 12 years ago |
reading through the lyrics i get this out of it. So sting is a kidnapper and he kidnapped this beautiful girl who he fell in love and wanted to keep her as his sex slave, but then she got out and now he's stalker her cause he misses her and wants her back |
Dispatch – The General Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I really don't think its about Jesus, the idea just fits. And one thing that does not work at all, is that he was "a decorated general", which would've meant Jesus fought wars and killed many people in the process. And the line about growing a beard, you forget the next line about it being to cover up his scars, so he was tryign to cover up scars from past wars when he shaved before. The real meaning is more of a story, when a general dreamt of the devastation war caused the night before a battle. He has been in many wars, killed many people, and he thought he was war, and he couldnt be anything else. When the men were waiting for orders, he told them to go home, live a life without war, and he will go into battle by himself to die, because he feels he has no other purpose in life to kill, so he decides to kill himself so no others will die. when the soldiers hear the order, they didn't know whether do as he say or as he do, and decide to do as he say and watch and the general goes into battle (his suicide) by himself to make sure that no one else dies because of his infantry. the chorus is his orders, and his dream that prompted his to his realization. the second part "take a shower, shine your shoes...go now you are forgiven" IS the general telling them to live a life meant for them, peacefully, and also saying that is you leave before this battle, god will forgive you and you would be "cursed" like he is |
Phoenix – Lisztomania Lyrics | 12 years ago |
So sentimental Not sentimental, no! Romantic, not disgusting yet Darling I'm down and lonely When were the fortunate only? I've been looking for something else Duel it, duel it, duel it, juggle it, duel it, duel Let's go slowly, discouraged, Distant from other interests On your favorite we can end it This love's for gentlemen only That's with the fortunate only No I gotta be someone else These days it comes it comes it comes it comes it comes and goes Lisztomania Think less but see it grow Like a ride, like a riot, Oh! Not easily offended Know how to let it go From a mess to the masses Lisztomania Think less but see it grow Like a ride, like a riot, Oh! Not easily offended Know how to let it go From a mess to the masses Follow, misguide, stand still Discuss, discourage On this precious we can end it This love's for gentlemen only Wealthiest gentlemen only And now that you're lonely Duel it, duel it, duel it, juggle it, duel it, duel Let's go slowly, discouraged, We'll burn the pictures instead When it's all over we can barely discuss For one minute only Not with the fortunate only Thought it could have been something else These days it comes it comes it comes it comes it comes and goes Lisztomania Think less but see it grow Like a ride, like a riot, Oh! Not easily offended Know how to let it go From a mess to the masses Lisztomania Think less but see it grow Like a ride, like a riot, Oh! Not easily offended Know how to let it go From a mess to the masses This is show time, this is show time, this is show time This is show time, this is show time, this is show time Time, time to show it up, time show it up, that's time to show it up Time, time to show it up, time show it up, that's time to show it up From a mess to the masses Lisztomania Think less but see it grow Like a riot, like a riot oh! discuss, discuss, discuss, discuss, discuss, discourage! |

Foster the People – Houdini Lyrics | 12 years ago |
actually that was a music video made by a fan or something, the real music video is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GMQLjzVGfw and here's how it goes 1: They are practicing for a concert the next day, when the stage lights and equipment fall on them and they die, bringing panic to the producers. 2: They try different ways of bringing them "alive", but settle on making them robots 3: They perform like boy bands do, which is so not the real FTP, and the crowd goes wild 4: They celebrate the success of the concert with some fans, and the fans don't notice the real FTP members are dead on the couch. |
Foster the People – Houdini Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It's actually "got shackles on, my words are tied" which makes sense with the songs meaning, that the music industry is controlling everything they do, ignoring the actual band. it shows more clearly in the NEW MUSIC VIDEO! but yeah the progression is the same, probably got inspiration for the lyrics to that |
