| My interpretation is that a guy cheats on his girl. He leaves it to her to decide where they stand. Whether they can move past this or this is the end of the road for them. She is hurt and heartbroken, 'tears in her eyes'. She is torn, unable to decide to what to do ‘her finger still shakes on the trigger’; but decides to forgive him by 'untying [his] hands. Although he understands it was within reason if she did the contrary as he ‘gave her the rope’ to do so. In the end, she tries to move on by showing him mercy and allowing him to live with his mistake, she forgives but is unable to forget and put the matter to rest. It eats her up inside, because not matter what she tries to do to move on, there will always be a part of her that will look back. Their relationship is damaged and will never be as strong as it used to be, and there is no fixing this as ‘what’s done is done’. My favourite line that sums it up is ‘you can’t reverse the bullet from a gun’. Such an awesome, underrated song on the album. The deep, emotional lyrics really reach out to you. | |
