Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) Lyrics
| 12 years ago
|
rupert captured the meaning, unfortunately. This song is so energetic. It was huge in the dance clubs of the 80's. Everyone would rush to the floor to dance to it. There was always an energy in Whitney's voice/songs. It just seemed to weave through the heart and body and make the legs wanna move:) |

Whitney Houston – How Will I Know Lyrics

Not my favorite of her's, but it is still a catchy, spunky tune...just a feel good track due to Whitney's amazing singing ability. Few can take simple lyrics and turn them into a heartfelt tune, but Whitney could. It was one of her God-given gifts. |

Whitney Houston – Didn't We Almost Have It All Lyrics

Obviously about a love that has ended, at least in the heart of one. I'm surprised there are no comments since Whitney's voice is so beautiful in this track. She had something (raw emotion) that most singers lack. |

Whitney Houston – Saving All My Love For You Lyrics
| 12 years ago

Whitney turned a song that is really quite sad (a mistress singing about a love she cannot have) into something that sounds so beautiful. It takes a great voice (range; emotion; etc) to be able to do that. It's one of my favorites of her's. |

Whitney Houston – The Star Spangled Banner Lyrics

Such a difficult song to sing (supposedly the most difficult due to its waltz tempo), but nobody has ever sung it more beautifullly. The superbowl will be remembered not only because it was the first day of the first Gulf War, but because Whitney's rendition was amazing. A special and beautiful tribute to her country and countrymen... |

Whitney Houston – I Will Always Love You Lyrics

Written by Dolly Parton, but it was Linda Ronstadt's version that Whitney listened to repeatedly before deciding how her rendition would sound. This was Whitney at her best. I recall the first time I saw her perform (mid-80's on Merve Griffin's show), but it wasn't until I saw/heard her Diet Coke commercial that I knew she would be a star. (I think everybody knew after that performance.) She was a combination of beauty; poise; and vocal talent. Such a simple track that could never be covered more beautifully... |

Roxy Music – Bitter Sweet Lyrics

You don't have a short memory, I know that for a fact; I am not on this site for you. I even waited until I thought you would be out with your girlfriend/friends before I posted anything. You created the 'spectacle' so leave me alone and live with your choice. And if I want, I'll continue to post on Whitney Houston's songs since she has been on my mind. She, not you. |

Whitney Houston – I Look To You Lyrics
|
Whitney's 2009 song that was supposed to be part of her comeback. She sings to God asking for strength and affirming His presence to guide her in her life. RIP Whitney, who will be buried tomorrow after a NJ baptist church service for family and friends (in the same church she sang in so long ago). Another talented vocalist to leave us too soon... |

Etta James – Tough Mary Lyrics

This song has me confused. She wants shoes and diamonds and she'll love the guy forever. Hmmmmmmmm. I'm guessing this is not a 'love' song. |

Flyleaf – Enemy Lyrics

I really like your take on the song. More than a decade ago during the Jewish Atonement I sent a letter to a woman asking her to forgive me. I had said something cruel about her to others. To this day I have no clue if she forgave me (I hope she did), but I was able to forgive myself for being such a uncaring jerk. I try hard not to talk (bad) about anyone, but that came with age. There's always something good in every person providing you look hard enough (and wish to see it). |

Dredg – Another Tribe Lyrics

As if you need help in lyrical interpretation...the person with the very high IQ and extensive vocabulary. You're like a blond joke that's not funny; you'd have to work hard not to understand something. |

Etta James – The Very Thought Of You Lyrics

She's apart from the man she loves. She thinks about him often. The songs from that decade were so simple and to the point. They were also so romantic. |

Etta James – In the Basement Lyrics
|
There's a party in the basement. The song is very dated. In the 60's and 70's basements were very popular as the unofficial family room. When parents were upstairs, teens would entertain their friends in the basement. (That 70's Show is the epitome of the basement entertainment.) It was the perfect place to listen to music adults didn't like; drink (sneaking in the booze); having sex (not I); dancing; and smoking cigarettes and weed. |

Blessthefall – What's Left of Me Lyrics

Redundant..."Catholics and religious." If one is Catholic, s/he is religious. It comes with the territory:) Sorry, but whenever my faith is discussed, it either excites me or rubs me the wrong way....kind of like talking bad to a mother about her child or talking with a liberal about how much you like Rush Limbaugh:) |

Etta James – My Dearest Darling Lyrics
|
A song about a woman pledging to God (and to a man) that she'll be with him forever. God will guide their relationship. Nowadays a song like Etta's wouldn't be played over the airwaves unless it were on a Christian radio station. A sign of the times, I suppose, but still unfortunate. |

Etta James – Don't Cry Baby Lyrics

Self-explanatory, although I can't picture a guy crying. Nothing wrong with tears, but how many men cry over a woman, especially when others can see him. It's a societal death sentence, unfortunately. |

Etta James – You Can Leave Your Hat On Lyrics

Gotta give her credit for coming up with such a creative tune. I'm sure each of us can think of someone we'd like to see in just a hat and doing some kind of dance for just us :) |

Etta James – Pushover Lyrics

You go, Miss Etta. This song is da bomb. (Is that even a recognizable expression these days???) Miss Etta says she wants true love and it has to be earned. Nobody's pushing her around. She wants Romeo (wicked cool name) to work for her love 'cause she ain't easy. And if he's loving all the other chicky poo's than she ain't gonna have it. GREAT lyrics. Wonderful artist. RIP Etta James. |

Etta James – I Just Wanna Make Love to You (Muddy Waters cover) Lyrics
| 12 years ago
|
I do love Etta's version (It's the best), but hot and sexual? She wants to wash his clothes and bake his bread. He could hire a maid. Sorry, but I don't find that either sexy or hot, even though times have changed when it comes to the role of women in relationships. With THAT said, I LOVE the lyrics when it comes to "I just wanma make love to you." It's such a wonderful sentiment when you imagine the person who stole your heart and who turns you on simply by breathing (or talking or laughing:). |

Etta James – Fool That I Am Lyrics
|
I love Etta. And this song is so quaint. It's typical Etta...simple and to the point. Often songs in Etta's day were about women being fools for men who treated them poorly. They were fiscally dependent upon the male gender and it was frowned on to be "kept" by a man if he weren't her husband, so women often married duds...and put up with their bad behaviors. Somehow I doubt Miss Etta put up with too much poo, but I could be wrong. |

Is that what it's about? Thank you. I had no clue. Love the band. I thought that the song may be about getting older...midlife, you know, when people WAKE UP and decide to make positive changes in their lives because they're no longer immature children. |

Dead or Alive – Sex Drive Lyrics

The band's best, but it obviously got very little air play back in the day. (Hence, so few comments on this site). You can't even download it off Itunes. I claim this song. It's my future anthem. When you want a song that is about sex, this is it. It's raw. It's blatant. It's extremely sexual. The energy level is addictive, much like sex:) |
