Sarah McLachlan – Angel Lyrics 12 years ago
I think it's about the death of someone dear. Her wearing a black dress in the music video confirms it. Lyrics don't seem to contradict it either.

Lobo – I'd Love You To Want Me Lyrics 12 years ago
I agree with billko that it could be about a nun obliged to observe chastity for the 'title'. That fits the lyrics well.

The song, the music is simply beautiful & simple. Pleasant to the ears. It was just a matter of chance that I discovered this song (an acquaintance's caller tune). I'd like to listen to more of such songs (which are rare these days except one songs like Bruno Mars' Just the Way You Are)

To give it a broader meaning, the 'title' can be the things that come in the way of potential relationships (particularly those that are conscious choices made by one of the partners.) But the choice made by the partner is wrong! It didn't necessarily had had to be the way it turned out.

My favorite part-
"baby, I'd love you to want me
the way that I want you
the way that it should be"

Never give up on your judgment of right or wrong even when it involves judging your near n dear ones. The singer recognizes the contrast between 'what is' as against 'what should be'. There should be this rigidity and firmness in your judgment which I admire.

Muse – Time Is Running Out Lyrics 12 years ago
This could be interpreted in so many ways. To take it most literally, it's about erotic asphyxiation. It fits the lyrics perfectly. Read over again and you'll see.

"Bury it
I won't let you bury it
I won't let you smother it
I won't let you murder it"

"it" & "you" in the above lines make me wonder and I can think of "you" as addressed to God, religion (by an atheist) or a totalitarian or any anti-liberty/ anti-freedom form of government (by an individualist) and "it" as meant to be "the truth" in a philosophical sense of the term.

The lyricist sings about being asphyxiated & addicted (to what? seeking favors from govt. perhaps OR seeking peace from something religious which is psychologically healthy short-term but suicidal in the long-term) & thus bound, restricted (by the trap created by the govt./ the religion) which is in contradiction to his wanting (phil.) freedom. And thus he ain't being consistent & honest to his own self and his losing his life, his 'soul'. There's this divide between his sense of life and his explicit philosophy. He knows what the truth but is not courageous enough to stand for it.

personally I'd go for a generalized meaning of the lyrics- how the song makes me feel like when I listen to it. You have to hold on to your principles no matter what & everyday you have to act by those principles you hold to be right and be 'good', be true to yourself, introspect, self-reflect, gauge your virtues by the standards you hold to be 'good'. Since we're humans & not 100% perfect or consistent, it so happens at times that you're emotionally-driven & tempted to do things which your sane mind wouldn't otherwise allow you to. If at such moments, we manage to gain self-control and talk sense into ourselves, well and good! But when we act on such temptations, we're being self-destroyers and insulting our own values. Thus you may find something beautiful which is a contradiction; to act on such a temptation gives you only momentary pleasure.

30 Seconds to Mars – A Beautiful Lie Lyrics 12 years ago
I think there's this phase of life when we're young when most of us aim to do something different in life. BE different, DO different, think different--that's just the craze among the youngsters. It's the snob appeal. But how many of us youngsters actually define in explicit terms what being or doing "different" means for us.

Many a times, we might be passionate about a thing which is so commonplace so we drop it & instead go the "do different" stream. Now this is wrong.

"battles of your youth" refers to the competition that we face wherever we go. & the competitive spirit is at its peak in our youth. So when we lose, we try to console ourself pretending "it's just a game" while it's not. IT IS "LIFE". WIN or LOSE--we need to show the same level of difference. Take things in ur stride.

SO the beautiful (ironically) lie is "this is just a game"!! It is beautiful (in a bitter sense) because it helps us cope with our distraught, temporal emotional state at the face of our defeat. But that doesn't mean it's right to completely erase off reality & forget our past mistakes or past hurt.

"it is a perfect denial" of the truth that this is life & for god's sake, Life is NOT an illusion. It's an illusion for those losers who wanna escape reality and/or undermine the winners.

And then...when you can't face the world glaring at you (or when you can't meet your responsibilities in your work/ private life), you become increasingly desperate & again try to evade reality by reminding urself "its just a game" OR by taking to addictions.

The loser's spirit & their revelling in "its just a game" lie can be metaphorically compared to the state of euphoria reached by drug abusers (both trying to fake happiness). This it can be a beautiful *feeling* but an assault on your mind & a LIE after all.

P.S. This is just my own interpretation.
