Its about viewing someone close to you as your own personal Jesus. Like your own savior, the person whose there for you, or you idolize. In a way, Depeche Mode is/are my own personal Jesus'. I relate to the songs, and the way they are formatted makes them perfect, and the beat makes me feel understood in a way, i dunno how to explain it. Its a fantastic song, very well written, definitley one if their best. |

I think the lyrics are about how a young girl can fall into the hands of a predator or older man- older men who only want her for sex, "Theyve persuasive ways...and you will do what they say" something along those lines. Basically he has to "save" her before she gets raped or submits to sleeping with the "creeps" just my view on it, dunno if its right but my fave line (ik martin wrote it, buts its adorable!) when dave says "and have their fun, with my little one" Dave always grabs his crotch at that part <3 haha :3 |

Most of you are idiots. Dave distinctly said in an interview before singing, or in this case, doing a playback of Shake the Disease, that its a love song. "I'm not going down on my knees/Begging you to adore me/ Cant you see its misery and torture for me?/ When Im Misunderstood/Try as hard as you can/Ive tried as hard as I could/To make you see/How important it is for me/ etc... Here is a plea/from my heart to you/ nobody knows me as well as you do/ You know how hard it is for me to Shake the Disease that takes hold of my tongue is situations like there..." Basically he gets tongue tied around the girl, might say the wrong thing, didn't mean it. The disease isnt Heroin, since his real addiction didnt take over till the mid 90s, and not cocaine. Its most definitely not AIDS, and as far as I know, none of those three things do anything to your tongue. The disease is love, he's love sick. |

Dave's heroin addiction didnt take over till roughly the mid to later 90s, starting roughly in 93, thats why he had the Songs of Faith and Devotion album, which honestly wasnt my favorite, plus he looked grimy during his battle with drugs.
