It's a song when after you listen to it you just shrug and say "enjoy her." After all this time what does one expect to hear. It's a song about one night stands, and having them because we gave up on ourselves long ago. We'll take temporary over the possiblity of failure. We want the high, have begun to rely on the down, and find some odd thrill in that. When we settle for the same time and time again but expect different results, we are fools. But some of us tell ourselves we are content playing the fool...that that role is freeing. What is freeing is risk and reward. What is freeing is love vs lust (although true love usually involves the element of lust...it must if the relationship is to last). What's freeing is at least acknowleding why we do what we do...why we must have (for example) beauty, youth, many partners, excessive alcohol and drugs, etc in our lives. Honesty is the most freeing of all. Then if we consciously choose to have those things than so be it. The rest of the world can take a flying f*ck. I tend to do just that. |

Love the artist, but had to look this song up online as I hadn't realized it was one of his. Obvious and sad meaning, but perfect for today. Someone near and dear to me (has to be) just called to schedule an appoitment for a medical weight loss diet. She did it for HER and no one else, and I'm sure she feels GREAT about it. Good work! My interpretation differs in some aspects. "And we don't mean to satisfy tonight So get your eyes off of my bride tonight 'Cause I don't need to satisfy tonight." ...I think it means he can't get it up...perhaps too much booze; a guilty conscience; realizing he's making a fool of himself again; etc. The "bride" reference may just show his possessiveness or he may be laughing at her (under his breath) because she's stupid enough to go with him after being picked up at a club. The "On Top" may reference the brief high he gets knowing he duped some immature, gullible young girl; his ego has been stroked. This band is ON TOP (the good kind); Flowers is such an amazing talent!!! Look forward to seeing him in concert in the near future. |

It is an excellent song with a good message, but it can be confused with making conscious choices (the same choices over and over again) and hence they no longer can be called "mistakes." They are outright lies; deception; and a mockery at anything that resembles love. I guess some people view themselves as animals who have no control over their lives. They are on a type of remote control...just plowing ahead not caring who will get trambled and what the consequences will be. Interesting way to live...to each his/her own, I guess. Call me BORING. |
