I get the idea it's about a person having delusional romantic fantasies or dreams of an imaginary lover or fantasizing about 'what could be'/'could have been' between themselves and an actual person who has become more of an ideal. |

Fugazi – Burning Lyrics

I get the idea that it's another song about being a consumer/user and not having either a giving personality or any creative outlet and trying to fit in with a crowd and adopting their culture - the way they speak, dress, the things that anger them, etc without consciously knowing that you're doing it. |

Bad Religion – Spirit Shine Lyrics

I agree with convergence's interpretation, but I don't think the song is exclusively talking about religious people, but people who almost compulsively take the moral high-ground or are carebears (ie, go to candle-light vigils for dead prisoners they never met, join peace corps, complain about what an injustice it is that the live=action Akira film isn't casting jap actors, etc.) People who want everything to be 'right' or 'fair' or safe, but can't stomach reality, and only get depressed and give up when they have to deal with harsh situations first-hand. |
