Queen – The Prophet's Song Lyrics

I have to chastise you here: How dare you compare Queen, let alone this song, to U2?
;-)
Seriously, they aren't even in the same league, let alone ball park.
By the way, your write-up was very well-written. |

John Deacon is SUCH an under-rated songwriter. He doesn't have a whole lot, but what's there is really good. |

That write-up seems to be correct, but why do people call black people "African Americans?" The white people who enslaved them aren't called "European Americans." And what about black people who live in London? Are they "African Europeans?"
It's silly terminology. |

Pink Floyd – A Saucerful of Secrets Lyrics

Not enough credit goes to the original. It's an amazing piece of studio wizardry. Every version has something to offer, but the 1968 studio cut was a real trail-blazer. |

Queen – Long Away Lyrics

"Long Away" seems like a song of condolence. Words of comfort to one who has suffered a painful loss. During a time of intense sadness (a few years ago) this song spoke directly to me. I have always really liked it, but since the aforementioned experience, it has taken on a new meaning. |

Water figures prominently in Townshend's writing. The sea is probably god and the universe, and everything eventually returns to the sea. |

Pink Floyd – Sysyphus (Part 2) Lyrics

I really don't know why they changed the labeling of the four parts for the CD. On the original LP, "Sysyphus Part One" is that loud gothic part, organ, mellotron, gongs, tympani and so on, then the piano solo. "Part Two" is the weird scratchy part with the animal screams and such, "Part Three" is the quiet section, and "Part Four" starts with the sudden loud chord, through the end.
It was formatted that way from 1969 on through, until they changed it for the current CD release. It's irritating. |

Pink Floyd – A Great Day for Freedom Lyrics

I often listen to lyric content and try to parse it; I haven't done that with this. The first part sounds a little overwrought, probably written about the Berlin wall, maybe about the juggernaut Pink Floyd had become after recording "The Wall," whatever.
But the guitar solo at the end is indescribably beautiful. This, after "Marooned," feels to my ears like, imagine it's evening in the summer and a storm is brewing on the horizon. The breeze is wafting through the trees and the climate feels fantastic, despite the coming rain. The music to these two tracks does to the ears what that type of sensation does to the body. |
