Coheed and Cambria – The Gutter Lyrics | 5 years ago |
In the world of the Dark Sentencer, the gutter isn't just a place you fall when you hit rock bottom. With a few exceptions, every inmate living in the Dark Sentencer is fitted with a belt-like device known as a Gutter. These devices are implanted without anesthesia into a prisoner's abdomen, where they latch on to several vital organs. These devices are linked to kill switches held by the guards - should a need arise, a guard can use their remote interface to activate a prisoner's Gutter, causing the implant to begin violently twisting, drilling into the prisoner's body and destroying all the attached organs in the process. |
Coheed and Cambria – It Walks Among Us Lyrics | 5 years ago |
After stealing pilots' uniforms, Nia and Nastrond make it to the Pavilion and prepare to steal a ship to escape the Dark Sentencer. As they turn on the ship, a blast rips through the cockpit, sending Nia flying and knocking her unconscious. Otto appears with a grenade launcher, then pulls out a blaster, bragging to Nastrond that it was the same kind of blaster he used to shoot Nia at the bank heist. The two men engage in hand to hand combat, but the two are not evenly matched - Otto is a nearly seven foot tall mound of muscle and rage, handily pinning Nastrond and mercilessly beating him. Nia recovers consciousness and attempts to shoot Otto with a blaster, but finds that it is out of charge. She then remembers that during her trip to see the Warden, she stole an interface device that guards use to activate Gutters as needed. Using the password she noticed the Warden type into his console - which she carved into her arm to ensure she would not forget - Nia activates Otto's Gutter, which drills through his abdomen, showering Nastrond in his innards and killing Otto for good. |
Coheed and Cambria – Toys Lyrics | 5 years ago |
Nostrand ends up being knocked unconscious while searching for answers about Nia's whereabouts - and whether she could still be alive - and wakes up in the lower levels of the Dark Sentencer, which are presided over by a mysterious woman known as the Glass Widow, who chooses to sentence individuals brought to her either to death - where they will be processed into food for the workers - or to serve, mining the last remaining vestiges of energy from the dying planet's core. It takes Nostrand all of an instant as he is being sentenced to realize that the Glass Widow is, in fact, Nia, alive and well. She comes to him at night and explains in no uncertain terms that she blames him for leaving her behind in the bank, but that he can make it up to her by helping her free all of the enslaved energy miners and rallying them to take over the prison while she plots an escape. This song is from Nastrond telling her he understands that she is upset and he wants to explain and apologize for everything that happened, but he won't stay behind - he intends for the both of them to escape this planet. |
Coheed and Cambria – Unheavenly Creatures Lyrics | 5 years ago |
This is the story of the botched bank heist that eventually landed Creature and Colossus in the Dark Sentencer. The criminal crew that would go on to be known as the Unheavenly Creatures, Otto, Nostrand, and Nostrand's lover Nia (a.k.a. Sister Spider) carry out a meticulously planned bank heist that does not go off without a hitch. While Nostrand stays in the bank lobby to ensure none of the bank's occupants make any wrong moves, Otto and Nia loot the vault. Nostrand suddenly hears gunshots from the vault area and Otto runs out claiming a guard appeared out of nowhere and shot Nia, and that the two men need to leave immediately. Nostrand is unwilling to leave Nia, believing she could still be alive despite Otto's insistence to the contrary. Otto is only able to convince creature to leave by threatening to kill everyone in the bank as well as a woman who happens to be walking by outside of the bank as they attempt to make their escape. While Nostrand and Otto do make it away from the bank, they are eventually caught by the Houses of the Star Supremacy, and as they face judgment, Otto reveals to Nostrand that he knew Nia was dead because he was the one who pulled the trigger. |

Two apprehended criminals, Nostrand (a.k.a. Creature) and Otto (a.k.a. Colossus, a.k.a. Hanging Judge) are being sentenced to life imprisonment in The Dark Sentencer, a "prison pit" comprising multiple levels inside of a dead planet. Once partners, the two men have become estranged as a result of their last major job gone wrong and want nothing more than to kill each other. The men are dropped from the judgment ship The Gavel into the pit of The Dark Sentencer and wake up inside the planet after being separated in the descent. |
Coheed and Cambria – Subtraction Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Held in Evagria's embrace, Sirius reflects upon his choice to leave Meri to pursue this dream of discovering the nature of the Keywork. In this moment of clarity, he realizes that, while he embarked on this mission to further humanity's collective scientific knowledge, he also had a burning, selfish desire to prove himself better than his peers and to make Meri proud. The reality was, of course, that he did not need to go to such lengths to make her proud because there was never a time that she thought poorly of him. In his quest to gain approval, he ended up separating himself from the thing that mattered most in his life. |
Coheed and Cambria – Mothers of Men Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Back in the Keywork, Sirius, now detached from his ship after the explosion, has no choice but to continue forward through this mysterious new plane, a completely neutral world with almost no distinctive features. Most of the souls in this plane are discontent. The souls of the good are distraught to realize that, in death, they do not simply ascend to a utopian Heaven and must coexist with those who were criminals and liars in life. Meanwhile, the souls of the wicked are upset to know that they do not get a chance at redemption, or, perhaps worse, revel in the fact that their evil actions now have even less consequence than they did in life. The Keywork itself, however, makes no distinction between "good" and "evil" energy, and so this entire plane is, to the outside observer, completely neutral. It is for this reason that these entities, good and evil alike, are excited to encounter Sirius; through him, they hope to seek recognition for their good deeds, redemption from their evil deeds, and a chance to escape by any means from this bleak afterlife. As he travels through this plane, Sirius encounters what he perceives as a thin wall in the air, which he peels back to reveal a surprising discovery: a bright, colorful, beautiful world that defies all explanation but radiates perfection. Moments later, the gap between planes closes, leaving Sirius in this seemingly endless, neutral universe with no apparent way out. |
Coheed and Cambria – The Afterman Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Back at their home, Meri Amory is struggling to write an article for her job, her mind completely absorbed by thoughts of her husband, Sirius. She cannot help but think that she was clearly not a priority in his life. After all, he chose this apparent suicide mission over the supposed love of his life, and, adding insult to injury, named his ship -- the Meriwell -- after her, as if to serve as a cheap replacement while he was gone. Unable to concentrate, she sits at her computer and reads the news. Anything to distract her from her thoughts. But then, she sees a headline that makes her heart sink. An explosion in the sky. Falling debris identified as parts from Sirius Amory's ship. Possible system failure. No chance of survival. Devastated, she closes herself off from the world. As reporters flood the scene and attempt to interview her about the accident, she simply ignores all of them. She cannot function under the assumption that Sirius is dead, so she decides that as long as she continues to close herself off, she cannot hear any further information about the accident and can hold on to the belief that Sirius has somehow survived. |

As the gun is fired, a huge blast knocks Sirius free of Domino's control and rocks his ship, damaging it severely. Debris shoots in all directions and it seems that Sirius Amory's journey has been cut tragically short. |
Coheed and Cambria – Key Entity Extraction I: Domino the Destitute Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Sirius is amazed at what he finds in the Keywork as he steps from his shuttle: a moving, waving mass of shifting shapes and colors. The beauty of it is staggering, and the realization that he is the first person in the entire system to make this trek into such unknown territory fills him with pride. His joy is short lived, however, as he begins see humanoid shapes -- vague at first, then gaining definition -- writhing within the energy cloud. One, in particular, has the strength to overpower the others, charging towards Sirius and jumping into his body, possessing him and forcing him to relive the mysterious entity's tragic end. Domino was, in life, an up-and-coming star in the boxing world, but he was not truly happy. Though his professional life was great, his personal life was not -- and these feelings were augmented as he watched his brother, Chess, live a happy life with his beautiful wife. He needed something to fill the void, and in that quest he found Kriptor Noncruss, a local crime boss, who told Domino he would go on to accomplish great things. Kriptor's influence proved fatal; Domino began taking drugs to enhance his fighting abilities, and as he got addicted, he became more and more willing to do Kriptor's bidding. After losing against the reigning champion, Domino lost it all. He was homeless, broke, and desperate, opening him up to participate Kriptor's biggest scheme yet: an armored car heist that would pay Domino a small fortune. Realizing that his brother could also use the money, he convinced Chess to come along and help, but when the robbery went wrong, Chess was shot by the police as an injured Domino looked on. This was his breaking point; seeing no other option, he turned his gun on himself and ended his life in a moment of complete and utter devastation, leaving him to languish for eternity as a lost soul in the Keywork. |

Unfortunately I didn't have the funds to actually purchase the full deluxe versions (just standard copies), so I don't have the book myself. However, I did manage to find scans of the book online and basically paraphrased what was in them. :) |
Coheed and Cambria – 2's My Favorite 1 Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Sirius interacts with the All Mother once more, and departs on a new mission with a new ship. Once again, he programs the coordinates from his former mission to the Keywork. The All Mother is confused -- or as confused as an artificial intelligence can be. "You fought to withdraw from a location which has incited severe, quantifiable pain and nearly terminated the mission -- nearly terminated your life. Yet, you desire to set a course back to it. I am not equipped to comprehend human rationale. Sirius, is this what love is?" There is a pause. "Yes." He may not make it back home alive, but after everything that has happened, he does not care. His only desire, his prime mission, is to return to the Keywork to find Meri. He will help her ascend, as he did with Sentry, or he will die trying. |
Coheed and Cambria – Dark Side of Me Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Sirius makes it home from the hospital, still reflecting on what he's learned and what he's lost. Sitting in front of his house, he spots Colten, Meri's lover and the father of her unborn child. Part of Sirius wishes he could just walk by without a confrontation; the other part wishes Colten would pull out his gun and open fire, putting an end to his misery. Instead, a distraught Colten asks why he came back. If he truly loved Meri, he would have simply let her go after all that time, rather than leaving her alone and expecting her to welcome him home with open arms and resume their lives after almost two years of no contact. He realizes that Colten is right and breaks down, still lamenting the selfishness that has led him to this point. |
Coheed and Cambria – Iron Fist Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Sirius is released from the hospital and returns home. On the drive back, he reflects on how angry he was when Meri confessed everything just before the car crash; not at her, and not at Colten, but at himself, for not being able to give her the emotional support she needed. He realizes how stubborn he had been when he decided to leave her for the unknown on his mission to the Keywork; he thought he would discover something amazing out there, and though he certainly did, he understands too late that none of it mattered as much as his wife. If he hadn't left her, she would likely still be alive and he could have salvaged their marriage. Instead, his selfish desired ruined the best thing he had. |
Coheed and Cambria – Away We Go Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Dr. Straight and his team have done everything they can to save Meri Amory's life after the car wreck, but it all proves fruitless; she cannot be saved. Her life begins to flash before her eyes; Meri feels herself guided by a mysterious presence through a strange landscape. The world morphs around her and suddenly she finds herself in a familiar place: the Jersey City dunes, on her way to meet a boy she's only met once prior. She is anxious; she has lived this before and yet she feels her heart beating faster and faster as she approaches her destination. And there he is, at the end of the dock: a young Sirius Amory. The two embrace, not saying anything, happy to be together. "It's nice to see you again, Sirius," she says; and when he opens his mouth, there are no words. She is enveloped in a warm glow, as she is transported into the limbo of the Keywork, content but unaware of what her afterlife holds. |
Coheed and Cambria – Gravity's Union Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song takes us back before the car crash in Number City, revealing the conversation that Meri and Sirius had before their tragic accident. Meri has decided that she cannot stay with Sirius, and that even before he had left on his fateful mission to the Keywork, she was not satisfied with their relationship and constantly feeling like she was placed second behind his research. She reveals her relationship with Colten and the fact that she is pregnant with his child; upon hearing the news, Sirius is overcome with emotion and loses control of the car, leading to the accident. We then move forward to the couple in the hospital, where a surgeon named Dr. Straight tends to Sirius's injuries and saves his life. However, Meri's injuries prove too great and the medical team cannot save her or her baby. |
Coheed and Cambria – Number City Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song is a flash-forward from the award ceremony in "The Hard Sell"; ambulances arrive at the scene of a gruesome car accident and the EMTs survey the surroundings. The driver of a small car lost control and slammed into a huge truck; ejecting driver and passenger from the car and leaving both with critical injuries. Though Sirius is in critical condition, he is still able to remain conscious long enough to see that Meri is in a considerably worse state. The EMTs test her blood for the transfusion she is clearly going to need, but discover something else in her bloodwork -- she was pregnant. As the EMTs load the couple into ambulances, Meri's heart stops and they attempt to bring her back to life. |
Coheed and Cambria – The Hard Sell Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Sirius has finally returned from his time in the Keywork; for him, only about a week has passed, but to the rest of the universe, he has been gone for about a year and a half. He is conflicted about what he should say to a world that was convinced one of their greatest minds had perished. After consulting with his mentor about the true nature of the Keywork, both men agree that the people at large would be better off not knowing of the bleak afterlife that awaits them all. Instead, Sirius decides to stick solely to a scientific explanation, and fabricates a set of passable, though still extremely exciting, algorithms and explanations about the energy that binds the planets together. Sirius is lauded as a hero of the scientific community and is given an award at a ceremony in his honor; Meri, also in attendance, simultaneously struggles to find out where she stands now that her husband has returned -- especially since she has been seeing Colten, the police officer who saved her in "Goodnight, Fair Lady" |
Coheed and Cambria – Key Entity Extraction V: Sentry the Defiant Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Sentry joins Evagria in attempting to protect Sirius from the first three entities, but Sirius is still forced to relive his life as he had with the other spirits in the Keywork. In life, Sentry was in the army under Vic's command. When he became aware of the horrible war crimes Vic committed, he confided in one other sergeant and swore to bring Vic to justice for his crimes. Before he could tell anyone else, however, Vic murdered Sentry, staging the scene as a suicide. Terrified into silence, the remaining sergeant did not shine light on the true nature of Sentry's death until years later when evidence of Vic's crimes finally surfaced and the guilt of his silence became too much to bear. Vic was eventually charged for his crimes, and in death, Sentry became a hero of the war, celebrated for his sacrifice in his pursuit of justice. But Vic did not truly get his justice; he took his own life before he could stand trial, and so the two entities continue fighting in death, Vic seeking to punish Sentry's betrayal, and Sentry attempting to finally bring Vic down for good. Sirius, unfortunately finds himself in the middle of this struggle, and in this he realizes what he must do. Remembering Evagria's contentment at her situation, he sees that these warring entities remain in limbo because they continue holding on to the horrible events that occurred in their lives, and so he attempts to convince Sentry to simply let his conflict with Vic go. He is successful. Sentry moves on to a state of complete enlightenment, and along with Evagria, he takes Sirius to the higher plane, just for a moment, before transporting him back to his ship and out of harm's way, where he is finally free to return home. |

Jed Whedon and the Willing – Tricks on Me Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Here are the correct lyrics, taken from the CD booklet: Tell a story of a life together Every house an allegory Like the smell of smoke it lingers on Memory Been a long and an uphill battle Had to learn how to pray Never miracles It's only hope dowsing pain My eyes play tricks on me The line fades 'tween sky and sea Miles away, the hours of heartbreak In dark they're coming to get me Tell a story of a life together Vigorous embrace Well, it's about you, Dove A little light across your face My eyes play tricks on me The line fades 'tween sky and sea Miles away, the hours of heartbreak In dark they're coming to get me Still the sound of everybody Crackle, house in flame And I avoid the shore 'til it calls out my name My eyes play tricks on me Line fades 'tween sky and sea Miles away, the hours of heartbreak In dark they're coming to get me |
