Los Campesinos! – What Death Leaves Behind Lyrics 8 years ago
I've always felt like this song is very reminiscent of Macbeth, from the direct references to witches around a cauldron to the repeated themes of death, paranoia, and failed aspirations of greatness. I think this song is supposed to reference the Macbeths to paint a picture of a couple that really love and care about one another, but are really bad for each other, and feed each other's self destructive habits. It's about their lost potential as individuals, how they could have been great people who did great things, but because they brought out the worst in each other, they suffered and did terrible things.

Panic! at the Disco – From A Mountain In The Middle Of The Cabins Lyrics 11 years ago
From the lyrics, it seems like this song means something to the effect of a couple that was really in love and close to each other, but then over time little lies and miscommunications built up until they didn't really trust each other anymore. But when I just listen to it without really paying attention to the lyrics it feels like more of a whimsical love story where a guy really likes a girl but doesn't think it'll work out so he's just kind of quietly appreciating all of the little things she does.

The National – England Lyrics 11 years ago
I didn't see this song as a lament for lost love, so much as a tale of quiet desperation. To me, it felt like this person was frustrated with their life of "fame" in Los Angeles and the cold numbness that everyone seems to have towards each other there. They see England as a place of escape and freedom to be yourself without the creepy glorification of and fascination with celebrity. My favorite line: "Put an ocean and a river between everybody else/Between everything, yourself, and home"
It's so beautiful and eloquent. The feeling of frustration and longing for escape is so strong. Others can interpret it as they want, but this is what I got out of this song.

The Weakerthans – Virtute the Cat Explains Her Departure Lyrics 11 years ago
I just listened to this song for the first time, then proceeded to sob uncontrollably for 10 minutes afterward. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that my best friend hasn't talked to me in 3 days, and my gramma died recently, and my greated fear is the people (or animals) I love dying or leaving me, but this song hit me like a ton of bricks. A song has NEVER affected me like this before, and I'm sort of amazed that it did, because I do not cry easily. It takes a lot to make me cry. I think that this is one of my new favorite songs. I just can't listen to it too often or I might have an emotional breakdown in public or something...
