The Mountain Goats – Counterfeit Florida Plates Lyrics 11 years ago
Pretty textbook description of paranoid schizophrenia, great song.

The Mountain Goats – Catherine Antrim's Kid Lyrics 12 years ago
"I had that same expression on as that one picture of my face"
You know that one picture that pops up under any search of "Billy the Kid?" I think that's what this is referring to.

The Mountain Goats – The Autopsy Garland Lyrics 12 years ago
tjwells, I'd never thought of it that way, but I like it. When I first heard the chorus I was thinking of people who outwardly project success and happiness but are actually falling apart on the inside, ie. what Judy Garland was doing for most of her life.

The Mountain Goats – Liza Forever Minnelli Lyrics 12 years ago
I think these interpretations have merit, but I picture the speaker of this song to literally be Liza Minelli, especially with the lyrics "Lay down on the streets my eyes toward the sun your star next to my face" and "saw your name on the sidewalk saw your brave face in my mind," which are referring to Judy Garland's star on the Hollywood walk of fame. No matter where her career takes her, the legacy of her equally famous parents(Judy Garland & Vincent Minelli) will always follow her.

The Mountain Goats – Lab Rat Blues Lyrics 13 years ago
Maybe something about lab rats perceiving experimentors as 'god' or all powerful.

The Mountain Goats – Catherine Antrim's Kid Lyrics 13 years ago
I think Catherine Antrim's kid was 'Billy the Kid' or at least that's what historians suspect.

The Mountain Goats – The Autopsy Garland Lyrics 13 years ago
If the title wasn't enough, this song is definitely about Judy Garland. It mentions California/Hollywood (where she worked for most of her career), London (a favorite concert spot), the emerald city (Wizard of Oz), and my favorite, "remember minnesota," where she was born and spent some of her childhood. Later in life she would say that life in minnesota was the happiest time of her life. The fat rich men probably a reference to studio execs at MGM taking advantage of child stars.

I love the Mountain Goats AND Judy Garland, so this one lets me have my cake and eat it too :)
