I Am the Avalanche – Green Eyes Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Well, this song is about a dis functional relationship. They both know the other person is not what they want, but because this one person will put up with their bull shit, they stick around because they dont believe that anyone else will. In this situation, the girl is the one with control and domination over the guy. The guy also knows how to control her as well but its more manipulative, because he knows that she is aware of the fact that he is the only one that will do what she says, and still love her, so he holds it above her head. The relationship is a vicious cycle. This song has so much symbolism its crazy. "I fell in love with the ship a vessel, with at least twenty holes" To me this is referring to her as the ship and the holes being flaws. "ya well she still floats" basically saying regardless of all these flaws he knows can be fatal, she still wins him over. "I fell in love with a queen, a king, who burnt my village down, I paid her with love and taxes" A queen was more of eye candy, and a trend setter, and he is saying she was this beautiful girl, but she was also a king... a king was more dominant and in control, what he says goes and so though she was pretty, she was controlling and in charge. When she burnt his village down, it could reference that she had the power to take anything and everything he had. When he "paid her with love and taxes" shows that regardless of her ability to rob him of all he is worth, he is still right there providing her with her needs and loving her just the same "i fell in love with the street sign that told me where to go oh why do i go any where? " street signs give us direction, not only to our destinations, but they are also have control because without them we are unable to find our way really. So he again refers to her has this controlling girl, and with out her he has no sense of where he is. the "why do I go anywhere?" kinda shows us that he knows that she is this dominating person.. but he has no self-control. Skipping the rest to "with out me... your only you" It reflects back to the fact that without each other, they aren’t anything. |
