Jethro Tull – Aqualung Lyrics 8 years ago
@[Liberius:4931] My best guess is that he is hallucinating as he lies dying, although I figure there is a better explanation.
I agree though, its an extremely vivid and haunting line.

"Spitting out pieces of his broken luck."

I get it. He is dying from a respiratory problem and coughing out his lungs.

Fascinating and unorthodox metaphors in this song.

Rush – BU2B Lyrics 9 years ago
I dont get why Christians think he is necessarily singling out Christianity; no offense, but personally I think you might be missing the point.

He could be referring to any religion that preaches karma or the idea that good will ultimately and inevitably triumph over evil. Heaven and the Devil are also common themes with only variations.

This covers a great deal of religions, and his idea that the followers are "blind" could just as easily be referring to how every branch of any major monotheistic faith is rooted in a fixed vision of how the Universe works, and how in turn such thinking is fundamentally closed minded (again, no offense but its not like Im wrong; since when do Christian/Muslims/Jewish adherents see eye to eye on who God favors)

Being familiar with Neil's lyrics I know he never singles anybody out, and if you are a Christian I'm sorry if his blunt words offend you; but if you are familiar with previous Rush albums you know he has always been critical of organized religion.

I dont understand why you feel the need to bail out on one of the best bands of all time now when Neil is merely reiterating how he has always felt, albeit in a harsher tone.

Rush – The Pass Lyrics 12 years ago
To me one of the interesting things about Rush is that when I listened to them in my early teens, I loved a number of songs.

As I grew older I discovered that Peart wrote some profound lyrics that I could often relate to. I also discovered how diverse and complex Lee and Lifeson's arrangements were. I appreciated Rush even more, and I discovered a whole new set of great Rush songs, this being one of them.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics 12 years ago
I love the lyrics.

Its almost as if they came out of some mythical tale, they read like something youd find etched into a supernatural stone-like material in the middle of a magic forest or something.

I can imagine a shaman on a quest to decifer the prophecies contained within the metaphoric language, in a Lord of the Rings type of film.

(The members of Led Zeppelin were fans of Tolkien's works, and they allude to them in the lyrics of at least a couple songs)

Rush – Armor and Sword Lyrics 13 years ago
I like Mausos interpretation, especially your take on the opening lyrics, but Id like to add something to what you have(if you dont mind of course)

I think what Neil might be expressing is that when religion is used as a weapon, thats where it all goes wrong. People want it for protection, but too often it becomes an excuse to create conflict instead.

Soundgarden – Let Me Drown Lyrics 13 years ago
Some very interesting comments, I got a different meaning then most.

If you ask me, its almost as if Cornell is describing some sort of hell or negative afterlife.

Theres a kind of spiritual quality to some of the lyrics.

"going to the holy land" sounds like mockery in a funny way, as in not the holy land youre thinking of, but the other one.

You also have "damn the water, burn the wine" which sounds kind of like the opposite of the typical christian rituals.

I doubt this is what Cornell was alluding to, but it blew my mind when this idea occured to me. The lyrics in this song are very creepy to me, and yet beautiful at the same time.

Pink Floyd – The Thin Ice Lyrics 13 years ago
My best guess?

I think that reproach is about when youre young and irresponsible. You do a lot of dumb things like any other youth. Ideally, you will learn from your mistakes.

However, if you do not make the necessary amends it can come back and bite you in the bum. Your questionable acts can add up and become cumbersome to the point of being overwhelming.

Thats all Ive got. My best guess.

Soundgarden – Superunknown Lyrics 13 years ago
Ive always had trouble trying to interpret the lyrics in this song, because they are pretty vague.

My best guess is that Cornell is reminding us that there is probably a lot more to our existence, but we cant comprehend it for the time being because we are not advanced enough.
