ABBA – Eagle Lyrics
|
As all good friends we talk all night, and we fly wing to wing
I have questions and they know everything
There's no limit to what I feel, we climb higher and higher
Am I dreaming or is it all real?
My favorite verse in any ABBA song. |

Chicago – Poem 58 Lyrics

@[Spooky_Tooth:46141] It's more of a composition than a song, which is fine with me. Songs are nice, but sometimes it's good to stretch out into longer forms with multiple parts. |

Tori Amos – Playboy Mommy Lyrics

I wonder if this was partially inspired by Pamela Anderson. A real 'Playboy Mommy' who had a miscarriage in 1995 because of her lifestyle. |

Billy Joel – Captain Jack Lyrics

And if you can't understand why your world is so dead
Why you've got to keep in style and feed your head
Well you're 21 and still your mother makes your bed
And that's too long
Devastating. |

Tori Amos – Silent All These Years Lyrics
| 2 years ago

This part really always cut deep:\n\n"So you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts\nWhat\'s so amazing about really deep thoughts\nBoy you best pray that I bleed real soon"\n\nI think Tori aimed that at all those \'nice guys\' who pretend to like a girl\'s intellect but are just after her body, but don\'t want to face the consequences. I.e., unintended pregnancy. |

Genius lyrics by Keith Reid. One of the all time great poets in rock music, along with Van Dyke Parks, Peter Sinfield, Richard Palmer James and Bernie Taupin. |

Steve Winwood – There's A River Lyrics

I can't believe nobody has talked about this song. Winwood's most spiritual statement and the background music for one of the most memorable episodes of Miami Vice in 1987. |

@[qwerty1198:36094] The song was recorded in 1990, Marty left in 1999. So much for that theory. I bet Marty never even thought a second about the lyrics, he was too busy shredding. |

@[MagicRat:35019] Are you sure? I think I saw some video that showed Indian Sunset being performed as early as Dec 1970. |

I wonder if this is about politicians. Remember when this was written, there was great political upheaval in the UK with Margaret Thatcher becoming Prime Minister. |

@[Bryman1970:33784] Actually Tony Banks wrote this song about his own experiences. Nothing to do with Phil. |

Genesis – Man On The Corner Lyrics

Great, great song. I think this song on Abacab proved Genesis were one of only 2 70s 'prog rock' bands able to still innovate in the 1980s. The other band being King Crimson. Love the sound of the analog synth. |

Elton John – Tiny Dancer Lyrics

To me the line 'lay me down in sheets of linen' is Bernie Taupin longing for the familiarity of home instead of being in the ratty hotels of Los Angeles. |

Elton John – Your Song Lyrics

@[turtonhot:30303] It's almost the conversational tone to it that makes it stand apart from other 'love ballads'. |

Elton John – Your Song Lyrics
|
Just to clear the record. This song was written by Bernie Taupin in 1967 as a teenager(born in 1950). It's simply a naive love song as you would expect from the point of view of a teenager. There's nothing more to it than that. The song continues to resonate with people because of the complete sincerity. We live in a time of excessive hate, sarcasm, irony. Sometimes we want a sincere love song and 'Your Song' always delivers. |
