i'm not quite sure but maybe the song is about a young couple who were way too young to deal with their love. i mean in a way love is also a responsibility for each other and when you're young that might be a tough thing.

Guys, is it just me who sees that:
This song reminds me so much of Nick Hornby's bestseller "Juliet Naked"! Its about a woman called anni who lives pretty much the life that is desribed in this song.
She gets into contact with a famous musician from America (annie is british) whose biography reminds me a lot of Ben Folds. Well, in the end of the story, he thinks about writing a song about annie.
and since nick hornby has dealt with ben folds before and is now working with him, i thought that might be no co-incidende...

yeah, its kinda ironical but i think both songs are about the same issu: he is getting hurt by a woman and tries to protect himself from her but at the same time, he is kinda attrackted to her. |

I think the song describes a situation in which it just feels good being together so that it is not only sad and tortouros. The fear of destroying that friendship was bigger than the desire to confess the love.
