Aaargh! I am so fed up with hearing assholes saying that feminism is a lost cause. Rape convictions are ridiculously low despite the fact that 1 in 3 women will experience sexual abuse in her lifetime, domestic abuse and rape myths still exists, the sex industry is considered the epitome of female empowerment and women still compete with each for male attention and that is not even half of the bullshit that we still have to fight. |

I agree with most of the interpretations on here. I love this song and can definitely relate, when you consider yourself a feminist and are aware of how the beauty industry is far from woman friendly it can make you question why you continue to wear make-up, wear skirts etc despite knowing these things. Do some feminine rituals and behaviours come naturally to us or have we all been so conditioned by gender stereotypes that it is inevitable that we maintain most behaviours and rituals? Would we be repressing our true selves by giving this up or would we find our true selves? |
