Modest Mouse – The World at Large Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I'm surprised more people haven't noticed the connection between this song and Float On. The World At Large literally flows right into Float On. They even have the same chords. The guitar part in the chorus of Float On is played on a loop in this song at a slower speed. I think the two sentiments in each song are connected. Maybe he's a drifter and he's not sure what he wants, but deep down he knows everything will be alright. |
Elliott Smith – King's Crossing Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Exactly. Gotta appreciate the classics. Through all his main releases each album sounds distinct, and if I didn't already know every song on them, you could play one for me and I could name the album without necessarily knowing the song. One of the greatest artists in the last 50 years. |
Guster – Ruby Falls Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think it's the exact opposite. I think this is about the end of something. Either life or love. "Somewhere down buried in the sand Two birds give out a song And all the Ruby Falls sing along" I think that's like a glimmer of false hope. It's a pretty deep metaphor. |
Elliott Smith – Condor Ave. Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It's one of the saddest lines I've ever had in a song. Cops were running around the scene, Looking for some kind of clue. They never get uptight when a moth gets crushed, Unless a light bulb really loved him very much. Gives me chills. I feel extremely human when he sings that part if that makes sense. |
Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Also, some people were trying to connect the song to Isaac Brock's beliefs, saying that he DOES believe in a higher power. I suppose that's more or less what I was getting at. |
Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Sorry, I kinda wrote this wrong. I do believe that from that line until the end of the verse is about god, but from an atheist point of view. |
Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'm obviously not that stupid to think that humans are actually cold blooded. I meant more in a metaphorical sense. E.g. cold blooded killer. |
Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Oh you mean Issac Brock, the atheist? |
Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I've seen a lot of people interpret this song religiously. You're all wrong. Issac Brock (Lead singer) is an atheist. He wouldn't make a song this deep about religion The song is about a miscarriage/abortion. |
Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Isaac Brock is Atheist. He doesn't believe in any higher power. |
Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'd like to point out that Isaac Brock is an atheist so referencing god is unlikely. Also I'm pretty sure he's also saying they got an abortion. "Reminding you we used to be three and not just two" Just a guess though. |
Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I haven't seen this yet. "Given that our blood was just like the Atlantic" can mean that humans are cold blooded. The Atlantic being a generally cold ocean, it's a valid interpretation. |
