Annie Lennox – Why Lyrics 13 years ago
I was thinking that the song is more about the fact that the singer/author has left a relationship she loved someone in, and she is apolgetic perhaps for her part to play, but the reality is that the relationship wasn't working (this boat is sinking). She loved the guy so much and he had no idea, but as the relationship was 'sinking' she left. She is sorry for leaving.

I think that maybe, the song is perhaps about depression - the person is seeing a very dark side to the pain of a break-up. What do you think?

Joni Mitchell – A Case Of You Lyrics 13 years ago
To me, my interpretation probnably isn't so positive.

"Just before our love got lost" - the end of a relationship
"You said, I am as constant as the northern star" (You will always be there as in someone to rely on, forever, just like the continuity and reliability of the Northern Star)
"And I said, constantly in the darkness, where's that at?" (the reality is that the star isn't so bright, the relationship is not stable, like a difficult to see Norther star)
"If you want me I'll be in the bar" (she has walked out, gone to the bar to be alone, away from it all, the blue TV screen light is the focus of the bar, as if she is alone)
"On the back of a cartoon coaster, In the blue TV screen light, I drew a map of Canada, Oh Canada
With your face sketched on it twice" (when a relationship ends the place you return to is home, or Canada this is also a reflection back to the Northern Star. She has drawn his face, she is thinking about him, about the end.)
"Oh you're in my blood like holy wine, You taste so bitter and so sweet" (the person is like a wine, they have become part of her like drinking Holy Wine, and the wine or guy has a good impact and a bad one, and with her thinking of leaving him, she is aware of the guy being like a substance she can not live without)
The reference to the old lady, I think, is a reference to the fact that the relationship was doomed to fail, as in be prepared to bleed, be prepared to put up with the pain. Drinking a case of the person in my interpretation has two meanings, as in that she could tolerate him and he now has no impact, or that she is so in love, that she needs the guy or case of him, so much so that she is now addicted.

I don't see the song as an overly positive one, rather a painful one, in which the authour is preparing to leave something because it is inherently painful but yet beautiful. regardless, she is alone, in a bar, drawing under a blue TV screen light, so the relationship is almost over.

Chicane – Autumn Tactics Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is about the sadness of depression (Autumn) and the loss of something (summer). The isolation (empty carlots, summer was my only friend) of Autumn and the pending winter, although associated with sadness, there is the small hope of happiness again in that it the new season or pending summer is just beginning or on its way. It is almost like there is a beauty in the pain of Autumn or winter (feels like its just begun).

This is a beautiful song and the beauty in the voice, music and haunting lyrics epitomise the gloom and isolation of winter and autumn, but the beauty in that isolation - that is seeing empty carlots. It makes one think of a new meaning to the album "Behind the Sun" as in, behind the sun is a darkness and isolation that in itself is beautiful.
