Bob Seger – Hollywood Nights Lyrics 2 months ago
@[LiamA:50048]

The english language is wonderful in it's ability to be ambiguous, and I can see a case being made for both. But, given both the lyrical and grammatical structure, it seems likely that her eyes are being referenced. That being said, it doesn't mean that he did not also have eyes of blue.

Kon Kan – I Beg Your Pardon (I Never Promised You a Rose Garden) Lyrics 5 months ago
As frequently happens here, what I posted is not what is showing. And, cannot be edited. So...

(Ahhhh) Here we go

There once was a time and there once was a way
We had something going and to my dismay
Attention to me seemed to drift, though I don't know where

And when we're alone seems there's nothing to say
I bring up a topic, you push it away
You say that you do but I think it's just you don't care
Why do I feel you're using me?

Are we an item, or are we just two?
I need some commitment, s'all I ask of you
Your lifestyle can change
Don't be afraid what you think's in store

I know what's on your mind you've got lots to lose
Your shallow acquaintance is what's there to choose
You won't get too deep even though I'm worth so much more
So think about it carefully

Smile for the while and let's be jolly
We shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can

(Go)
(Rock, do you want to hustle?)
(Freak, that's right)
(Rock, do you want to salsa?)
(Freak, that's right)
(Rock, do you want to hustle?)
(Freak, that's right)
(Rock, do you want to salsa?)

If that's how you want it, that's how it'll be
There's no use in trying or making you see
That love don't come easy you don't know what it's about

To get things together won't take any pain
Don't need to see/hear from you never again
From this day on listen learned, no more, please count me out
And you know what I'm talkin' about

Smile for the while and let's be jolly
We shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can

I know now's the time that I went to find something new
You know it's your crime that I'm out to find someone too

So – Are You Sure Lyrics 1 year ago
Song lyrics are for a song with the same name by Willie Nelson and, as are many here, editable so.......

Are you sure there hasn't been? (some sort of mistake)
Are you sure there hasn't been? (some sort of mistake)

You think you've got the gift of second sight
Because you argue better doesn't mean you're always right
I've known him all my life
This innocent man lost my respect years ago

Are you sure there hasn't been? (some sort of mistake)
Are you sure there hasn't been? (some sort of mistake)
Are you sure there hasn't been? (some sort of mistake)
Are you sure there hasn't been? (some sort of mistake)

And it's hard enough to make the same mistake

And it's hard enough to make the some mistake

Little pockets of ignorance
I wouldn't have believed he was the one you were searching for
I mean, I've known him all my life
This innocent man lost my respect years ago

Are you sure there hasn't been? (some sort of mistake)
Are you sure there hasn't been? (some sort of mistake)
Are you sure there hasn't been? (some sort of mistake)
Are you sure there hasn't been some sort of mistake?

(Some sort of mistake)

(And it's hard enough to make the same mistake)
(The man who knew too much) (Are you sure?)
Alone, I confess...I...I...I
(The man who knew too much) (Are you sure?)
Are you sure? I'm not sure
(The man who knew too much) (Are you sure?)
Are you sure?
(The man who knew too much) (Are you sure?)
I...I...I
(The man who knew too much) (Are you sure?)
Are you sure?

Eminem – Without Me Lyrics 3 years ago
@[HolyInfidel:35163] The trailer park girls lyrics, in this context, has multiple references.

1) The lyrics to the song Box Cutta Blade Runna' by Cannabis. This seems to be a poke at that artist as, at the time of release of 'Without Me' they were not on good terms.

2) It also, as does the Canabis song, refer back to a song by Malcolm McLaren called 'Buffalo Gals'. Malcolm McLaren was a British promoter, who turned into a fashion store owner (which helped set the look for the early New Wave/New Romantic look in the 80s), and then started managing early punk acts like The New York Dolls, The Sex Pistols, Adam Ant, and Bow Wow Wow. It could be argued that McLaren was one of the first white artist to have success as a Hip Hop artist, helping to pave the way for Eminem.

3) Ultimately, through the Malcolm McLaren song, it is a reference to the song 'Buffalo Gals' performed by many artists, which was first published under the name 'Lubly Fan' by a black faced American performer, in the 1840s, named John Hodges.

Vicki Lawrence – The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia Lyrics 4 years ago
@[jeffrey111:33758] Again, Seth is the brother, NOT the Amos boy. The exchange in the bar was Seth and Andy talking:

Andy Wolloe said "Hello"
And he said "Hi, what's doin', Wo?"
"Seth, sit down, I got some bad news, it's gonna hurt"
He said "I'm your best friend and you know that's right"

Andy tells Seth to sit down so he can give him bad news a time honoured custom that make bad news much easier to take.

I will agree that it is possible that his wife wasn't a whore, maybe both infidelities were accidents (she slipped and fell...), and it's also possible that good 'ol boy Seth is not an alcoholic whose default is to hit the local watering hole when returning home.....but I'd bet against both interpretations.

I do completely agree about the sister not confessing to the murder(s) she committed. Even a kangaroo court followed by a duly held lynching should have given her enough time to say something, anything. But, to be fair, I do not live in Georgia so what do I know.

Billy Joel – The Stranger Lyrics 4 years ago
@[ItalianDJ:30648]

You put forth a very interesting alternative meaning, but I believe it is incorrect for a few reasons:

1) If your interpretation is correct the line 'did you ever let your lover see the stranger in yourself' does not seem like a perspective a man would write and, even were he to, also seems a little crass/vulgar for a lyric from this artist.

2) Based on the line 'we all have a face that we hide away forever', your interpretation assumes that every person on the planet is an unfaithful piece of human excrement. I assure you, this is not the case (though, I will concede, most deffo are).

3) Given your interpretation, why did the singer 'come home to a woman' that he 'could not recognize'? If the stranger was, indeed, not a mask worn that confused him, he should be able to recognize his cheating wife.

Again, I find your interpretation novel, inventive, and interesting but, ultimately, unlikely to be correct.
