Wild Nothing – Chinatown Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This is what falling in love for the first time sounds like. |
Liars – No. 1 Against the Rush Lyrics | 11 years ago |
False friends who will bring you down. Nothing good can come of such a toxic environment. Seems like the singer is warning another person caught up with this group because he's seen right through them and knows better, perhaps through firsthand experience in once being a part of that group, too. |
Beach Fossils – The Horse Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Perpetuating memories/daydreams about a former lover; perhaps reliving certain moments of the relationship, including the breakup and how that may have shattered whatever idealistic notions that existed about that relationship/person ("I drop from the sky right as you say goodbye, forever have haunted our dreams"). Although, I'm curious about the "our dreams" bit. Perhaps the other person involved isn't over it either, and he knows it? There seems to be some sort of self-discovery through it all, which tends to happen upon reflecting back on a broken relationship ("Stones of the ground are uncoverin' line that I never once knew were there"). At the end of it he seems to still be dreaming of this person, indicating that he still feels connected and hasn't really been able to let go. |
Beach Fossils – Shallow Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song is so good. I remember when it was first released February of last year and I listened to it on repeat for days on end. I agree with what you've said about the meaning. The fact that it's titled "Shallow" just adds to it. There's no depth anymore; whatever they once shared has completely disappeared. |
Beach Fossils – Adversity Lyrics | 11 years ago |
The end of the song seems to me like a sort of peaceful/melancholy resignation. |
Beach Fossils – Adversity Lyrics | 11 years ago |
On a personal note, everything seems to be encapsulated in these two lines: "Oh, the clouds are moving in / Oh, we're all so new to this" Inexperienced, caught up in the novelty and excitement of love. Fighting to make something work, but it proves to be futile for whatever reason. The difficulties and pain overshadow everything else that once seemed blissful. There is a refusal to let go because it's all you know (which can seem frightening), yet you realize that it's the only viable option as things seem to get worse the tighter you cling. |
mewithoutYou – In a Sweater Poorly Knit Lyrics | 11 years ago |
"The trap I set for you seems to have caught my leg instead" is a reference to the Sufi poet, Rumi (who has proved to be a great influence in much of Aaron's songwriting). The poem which the line is derived from (titled "Who Makes These Changes?") seems to be addressing humanity's proclivity toward sin, and how one should be suspicious of his or her desires (which reminds me of the verse in Jeremiah which states that the heart is deceitful above all else). Perhaps this is Aaron grappling with his sin nature, which is in essence rebellion against God. These themes are predominate throughout so many mwY songs. That grappling between flesh and spirit is too real for the Christian. |

Dr. Dog – I Hope There's Love Lyrics | 11 years ago |
When the person whom you love has hurt you so terribly and won't admit to it, no matter how many times you try to speak up. You approach them with a vulnerable heart and they react with such insensitivity in return. It's plain to see the lies that they are telling, but they will never admit to it. You can see right through them, but it's no use to even talk about it anymore. If someone isn't willing to humble themselves and admit their faults, things will never get resolved. You love that person so much and it pains you to see them in this sort of position where they can't be even be honest with themselves. Sometimes it's just best to let go, as difficult as it can be to make that decision. In the end you hope that they can be able to not only accept love from others, but give it in return one day. |
Beach Fossils – Lessons Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Always forget who I am Can't say I try and understand And when I try it out with you Now I'm okay if you are too We can only try to stay alive What are you to do at twenty-five? And when they ask all the time Say I'm doing just fine Close your eyes and tell me how you feel Can you feel the truth and is it real? We can only try to stay alive What are you to do at twenty-five? |
Beach Fossils – The Horse Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I hear: I couldn't talk to you But I'd love to walk with you I drop from the sky Right as you say goodbye Forever have haunted our dreams I lost my heart for you And I set it free for two Stones of the ground are uncoverin' line That I never once knew were there The horse of you The horse with your hand to the sky We turn back again and I turn in my bed The horse is not undone ----------------- Either way, it's a great song. |
