Bright Eyes – The Big Picture Lyrics 8 years ago
Also the reference to being lifted into the sky goes with the imagery. At the end of the song he is saying that you can struggle with life or just go with the flow, using the metaphor of a fish being pulled out of the water and into the sky.
Sorry you probably knew that and I'm just being annoying...

You don't like waste of paint? Wow that's one of my favorite songs, along with everything else Conor writes... Maybe you don't understand the emotional complexity of his songs. Really, that's how most of bright eyes songs are, and not being a horrible person but maybe you should step back and really listen to what he's saying, it wouldn't have half the impact it does if it was sung like some crappy pop band. Anyway, just listen to it, feel it, sway to it and maybe you'll see. Maybe you won't but I really don't want some other shallow person out there so close to *true bright eyes enlightenment* for lack of a better phrase. Sorry if I offended...

Bright Eyes – The Calendar Hung Itself . . . Lyrics 8 years ago
I agree very much, it just wouldn't work, conor's music is about his pain, his frustration. they are packed with emotion, slowing it down would, it would, ruin it, completely. The emotions would be false. This song is perfect as it is.

Bright Eyes – The Center of the World Lyrics 8 years ago
See this song means alot to me because it happened, and really it can happen to anyone, without warning, without everyone else even noticing. once you fall into that hole its really horrible to try and get out.
I believe this song is about the statue being the golden girl, that everyone worships her. but deep inside, theres a different side that he glimpses and is "turned to sand." in the middle verses i think its descibing the way that time flows and things die to have new things replace them. then at the end everything gets repetitive, the priests dont even find joy in praising god. it ends with the main girl, the golden girl. losing herself to her true feelings and killing herself.
