To me, these lyrics mean: He loves her so deeply. He wants to be the one to hold her hand. Things are keeping him away. He feels he is not allowed to tell her all he feels, but even though, he longs for her to know that HE is the one that loves her. I would think that she could hear the song, see his longing, and want it too, and have the same feeling of being disallowed to express it. What an amazingly beautiful thing if two people like this could be the dearest of friends in spite of the circumstances. |

To me, these lyrics mean: She reached out to meet him and couldn't believe how well he was doing without her. But he says that when he really needed her, she wasn't there. Such a sad disconnect. They both want each other and they both feel the other isn't there for them. From the very beginning they were just too far apart, as if they were separated by time or circumstance or perhaps miscommunication. He doesn't feel he could be any closer to her, at this time, because of the circumstances and the time issues, but he wants to give her some time. And I feel that she obviously wants to give him the chance because she came out of her circumstances to meet him and see how he was doing. If she didn't care, she wouldn't make such effort to check on him. |
