I want everyone corrupt

Manic Street Preachers – S.Y.M.M. Lyrics 14 years ago
What a cunt. It doesn't matter who they supported, they were football fans. You can bet if this happend at Ascot, or somewhere surrounded by royalty and the rich, the policeman in charge would be made an example of and severely punished. He got off with it because many viewed, and still view, football fans as scum.

As an Arenal fan, with a Liverpool supporting dad, they are hardly my favourite team but it's a disaster for football, like the man utd plane crash in Germany or when several CSKA moscow fans fell down stairs at their ground and died because of ice.

Manic Street Preachers – Strip It Down Lyrics 14 years ago
In my opinion this song is about their hate of consumerism replacing our culture and ultimately becoming it. "Strip it down" is saying they want to destroy the culture and system. "injustice sits nicely next to smiles" is saying that on tv and in newspapers you see politicians smile and say everything's going well, but they spend all day increasing the amount of injustice in the country. "Success and love dictate" is saying we are obsessed with celebrity culture so what they do dictates how we live our lives.
"Consumerism beauty for cheap appeal" is saying that we see all these products on view, we buy them an they give us a cheap thrill, but it's not relly worth anything. "Decaying flowers in the playground of the rich" is saying the time is up for the rich, and their ideal is "Decaying". "And consumer self-hate leads to designer bullshit" is saying that ohers make you feel worthless and hate yourself if you don't wear all the designer labels.

My opinion anyway :)

The Clash – Spanish Bombs Lyrics 14 years ago
The bombing of Guernica was actually done by the Nazi's who wanted to try out there new tactic, the Blitzkreig. They chose Guernica to try this out on. Until this point, the Basque regions of spain were independant. This is why the ETA fight today.

"Nothing's gone and nothing's changed" also refers to how dictatorships which we fought to eradicate still exist. Everything's the same as it's always been.

To me, this is a two finger salute to the PC bullshit. This is disturbing that it was this bad in 1993/1994, when today it's considerably worse, where you can't even take a shit without the masters knowing.

The song seems to be about an armageddon, or an apocalypse, that will happen and it will be our fault.

"Regained your self-control
And regained your self-esteem
And blind your success inspires" - How Germany has recovered from ww2 to become this great economic power

"For your love nature has haemorrhaged" - The Nazi's actions have scarred the earth

"Prejudice burns brighter when it's all we have to burn" - As said earlier, about how the Nazi's could thrive in the Weimar republic because of the poverty

The song is criticising the EU (scum). "It's too late to learn a new currency" obviously refers to the euro. "Idle and out of touch in Europe" could refer to how the EU have lost touch with real perople in europe.

"And some of my dreams
They may have come true
But so have my nightmares
Which I can't get through" This could, but I'm not sure, mean that Nicky's dream of unity among nations (they're socialist) has been achieved, but his nightmares of no democracy / accountability / freedom have also come true.

Manic Street Preachers – Crucifix Kiss Lyrics 14 years ago
great song. Obvious meaning, anti-religion. "Questions are now blasphimy" refers to how you can't ask questions about religion, just accept it. I love this song, growing up in a rural, conservative area where god is the ruler, no one is allowed to disagree. I nearly got excluded from school for refusing to do R.E because it's all bollocks.

Manic Street Preachers – Indian Summer Lyrics 14 years ago
I think the song is fairly obvious. It is about how God shouldn't be given as an answer to difficult questions, shown when "If god persists, persists in saying yes, I guess we have, we'll have to test ourselves". This means if God is just going to be given as an answer, we have to test ourselves and not accept the traditional answer. "I guess we'll have to test, until there's nothing left" this means we should test everything, and not just accept God as an unproven idea. "The truth is fixed" means that there has never been an experiment or investigation into these issues, just a simple "Fixed" truth.

Manic Street Preachers – A Secret Society Lyrics 14 years ago
When it says "Science fiction for the masses, wih no reality" It is saying how religion has no proof of being real, as if it was fiction. When it says "Democrcy the highest state that man has learned to invent" it is saying that Democracy is supierior to other beliefs man kind has invented I.E The idea of religion.

Manic Street Preachers – Miss Europa Disco Dancer Lyrics 14 years ago
The song is about disco music being unintellectual and repetitive, hence "braindead motherfuckers", meaning they have no mind of their own.
