Bright Eyes – Lua Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is definitely about coke. I don't think it's about an eating disorder. The high you get from coke doesn't last all that long, you have to keep doing more. Which is way she kept going to the bathroom.

skinny like a model - coke makes you not want to eat, so you lose weight

eyes painted back - pupils dilate when you're on coke or other highs

He makes plenty of references the drugs in this song and that's why I don't think it's about an eating disorder at all.

With that said, this song is incredible.

Lydia – Hailey Lyrics 12 years ago
Thanks @carefuldaze I thought so too just wasn't sure.

I love everything about this song. As a long time Lydia fan I feel like I've watched Leighton's life go from very terrible to very hopeful to very exciting and happy. Now that his life is well off I'd like to believe he only wishes the same for the girl he once was in a dark place with.

Lydia fans will know straight up what this song is about without having to look too much into it.

The Cinema – Satellites Lyrics 12 years ago
Pretty sure it's "Got this in your blood* dear"
And "wasting time in the best ways* come on and join me"
Annnnnd "Saturday was the never the same without your satellites a-glowing*"
Could be wrong but that's what it sounds like to me.
A few other things but otherwise looks good. Amazing song. Leighton is the best with words.

other than that I think its all right. Love this song, favorite off the album.

Lydia – Assailants Lyrics 14 years ago
Its like he's convincing this girl that he's not going anywhere "all this world you're with me" or maybe he's looking at the past and seeing how much she affected him. It's probably the same girl he's always sung about. Either they're back together or he's reflecting on their past time together.

I'm not sure about the assailants part except the fact that they "keep changing faces" which I think meaning that the people that attack him with words in whatever way keep changing. that they're many different people from many different crowds, and they never seem to go away. that there is always going to be someone who is hard on him no matter where he goes.

Lydia – We Clean Up So Well Lyrics 14 years ago
Okay so here's what I've gotten (pretty much what I already said) but Leighton sang about a girl with "expensive taste" in Laugh Before You Grin. Which has connections with Fools & Luxury. I think this connects to this song with "Just stay with the V.I.P's, Limousines" Also "Money speaks back to her" which like I said, is really close to Sleep Well. The photography reference was a lot like in "Her and Haley" and also every time he sings about pictures. like in this song "sure as hell like a picture" and also lines about pictures and images come up in many other songs (Smile You've Won, Laugh Before You Grin, December, Camera Lens and Careful Days, Your Taste Is My Attention, and I'm sure other songs I've missed.)

Sleep Well (I believe) was about how Leighton fought the addiction to cocaine, and he won. But when he went back and saw the girl who got him into drugs in the first place, she was still "In the valley wasting away" and I think he named it Sleep Well for obvious reasons, now that drugs were behind him, he would finally sleep well.

This song shows that the photographer, the girl with expensive taste, and the drugged out girl were the same person. (possibly Haley?)

I'm really glad this song was written, it almost makes the other songs make more sense and kind of brings them together into this crazy story.

Also this may be a stretch, but when he sings "You got carried away in your own dress up" for some reason I think back to how he sang about the girl who was always dreaming. he sings about that maybe as much or even more than the photo references. So that could be the same girl too.

I'm not sure if Leighton is singing about the same girl, or a couple different girls. but this makes a lot of the songs come together and makes it seem like one person was what all this came too. who knows.

Amazing I was wondering when these lyrics would be posted.
I'm not sure what its about yet but Leighton writes a lot about a girl who was a photographer so I'm obviously guessing this is about her. The line about money reminds of Sleep Well. And limousines reminds me of A Story For Super. I love how Lydia's songs relate to each other and tell a story. Leighton is a lyrical genius. I honestly can't figure him out. Amazing song. I'm freaking out about the rest of the album, can't wait.

i think this song is about someone who she loves or cares about who has stayed away from relationships. probably because of fear or they just convinced themselves they were better off alone for whatever reasons.

Lydia – Her and Haley Lyrics 14 years ago
At the start of this song if you turn it up really loud you can hear a man talking. I'm not sure what exactly he's saying but it sounds as if it were a man talking in a court hearing, maybe a judge. Anyways I think this song is part two to "A Story For Supper" I think this is about the two girls that supposedly died in that car accident. Named Lydia and Haley. Or so I've heard. I think maybe the part at the beginning is about the court crap they had to go through after the accident.

I've been going over Leighton's lyrics for such a long time now. I've seen all their interviews. I met Leighton at a show even. His band members don't even know what the songs are about usually, and Leighton won't show them the songs until he has the main guitar part down. He said in their first youtube interview that all his lyrics are really personal. I think he's got an incredible story if all these stories behind the lyrics are true. I believe him.

So I think this song is him looking back at when those girls died. And I think it really did happen.

Lydia – A Fine Evening For A Rogue Lyrics 14 years ago
"It started quite young
Yeah, I learned how to, to,
To stay quiet, just stay quiet, always stay"

I think Leighton had a tough childhood. I think this line and the one from The One You Once Loved Is Leaving, "Its not your fault when no one taught you how" have to do with him growing up with parents who were not kind to him and also parents who didn't set a good example.

Him saying he learned how to stay quiet could be about many different things, but I don't think he ever had a say in anything, so he stayed quiet.

I think its sad how he refers to drugs as his "medicine"

its like he can't live without it.

this song is perfect.

Lydia – One More Day Lyrics 14 years ago
I think all of Leighton's songs tell a story. I saw an interview of him saying all his lyrics were really personal. I don't think he ever writes about things that don't have to do with him so I have just decided that I think this one is once again apart of the drug addiction.

I think he's counting down until he is done with drugs, and I think the "crazy" refers to drug withdrawal.

He could be telling the girl he is with all about this (she is still on drugs and no where near quiting) and he can't stay with her because things will be different and she's still a mess "I'd stay if I ever could, stay if I ever could and pick up your pieces babe"

Matt Nathanson – Wedding Dress Lyrics 14 years ago
i think i might be the only one who doesn't think its about an actual marriage or divorce. i think at first he's looking back on a relationship, with the girl he was supposed to marry. but he got cold feet or couldn't go through with it, and she left him. (thought i lost you, i gave you away) he gave her away because he wouldn't commit. and now she's getting married to someone else and he regrets ever losing her and he wishes he was the one marrying her (and I want to be somebody else now and I want to thicken my skin)

it could go either way but i never thought of it as a divorce song, i always saw it as him watching the girl he loved marry someone else

Lydia – Sleep Well Lyrics 14 years ago
I think Leighton was with a girl who was addicted to the same drugs he finally stopped using. They stopped seeing each other, he stopped using but she didn't.

they started seeing each other again but she was "exactly how i (he) remembered" and she still only cared about drugs and money.

Since he was a musician she expected him to be making good money. She wanted the money he was making for drugs. But he wasn't pursuing music for the money. Which didn't matter because it wasn't making him rich anyways.

So she continued with her drugs but every time she went to go see him she asked him for money/drugs again.

"I guess I love to spend all my time up in my own brain."
he was telling her he's done with drugs and he's rather be thinking straight now.

"Stay at home, cause you're way too good at taking"
He was telling her she doesn't need to go see him anymore if all she wants is money/drugs

the end of the song "it got my best" and "it got your all" he is talking about the days he was addicted and how she's still "in the valley wasting away"

and he will be fine without her, he doesn't want to see or be with her anymore

Lydia – One More Day Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is insanely amazing. So is every Lydia song. Every word is so enchanting. Certain sections or phrases of each song jump out at me, for this song its:

"And pick up your pieces babe,
Cause there's never a perfect day."

I think this song could mean a million different things for a million different people. No matter what it's amazing.

What drives me crazy though is what Leighton is referring to as he counts down from two more days to one more day. I really wish there were more clues to what he was talking about.
