Elliott Smith – Cupid's Trick Lyrics 13 years ago
After hearing the live version of the song (someone posted it above), I am pretty certain that he says "sugar lick me up, it's my lie." It's definitely NOT "life", anyway. He MAY be interchanging "lit" and "lick", but I don't think so.

Elliott usually didn't write sexual lyrics... and, that is why I think he left them out of the booklet.

Also. I'm not sure about the line "Then I'll know why". In the live versions I've heard, it sounds like he's saying "no one" at the end. But, I can't make out anything else.

I'm more interested in Elliott's obscure voice in the beginning, than I am with the rest of the song. Not because the song is boring, or bad - it's great. But I feel like this could be the most straightforward song Elliott had ever written.

Someone already mentioned "I'm the wolf man" I am pretty sure the whole sentence is "That's right, I'm the wolf man. Jump out my tree."

Along with these:

"I'm thinkin' about fate"
"Which is anytime, brother."
"Always got my way."

He also says something about a "white father".

There is one thing that can't be disputed, though - this IS Elliott's voice. I went through all 7 pages of these comments, and a few people seemed to think it was someone else.

This song had phenomenal imagery. It plays like a film through my head.

I mostly agree with NewMoon.

However, I'm not convinced that "Your love's the missing link," is right. I've listened to it a few times, paying close attention to that line, and I can't hear the "k" that goes long with "link". In my opinion, it seems like he's saying "Your love's listening,".
