They came out of nowhere with this and I just can't express my love. Such a great song. Catchy, brilliant, classic. As for what it's about... I think it spawned from Alex's on and offs with Alexa Chung not too long ago. Just the push and pull she seemed to have with him, obviously due to her attractiveness, but I love that he's not with her anymore. I think this time alone could really do Alex some good and maybe veer him a little more toward where he wants to be. |

Yeah, like someone previously said, all this shit about cutting coke in a bathroom depresses me too. I think the "cut 'em in the bathroom" part has to do with the braces being cut? Maybe. After all, a few lines before she mentions cutting, she's talking about her boyfriend's opinion of her braces. He doesn't like them, so she cuts them out in the bathroom. Pretty sure it's not what she means, but it could be. |

I totally agree with the suicide theory. I always pictured the narrator (Skiba) as the boyfriend of a girl who was just a really morbid, sad, and in a bad place. With the "go wait in the car" line, I, for some reason, picture the girl driving them out to the Goldengate bridge, late at nightn her telling him to just "wait in the car" and then going to the edge of the bridge, about to jump off. I don't know how accurate this could be, seeing as how its just what my own mind mustered. What I do know is: Alkaline Trio is the best band ever formed. Hail Skiba. |

After listening to the lyrics a few times...I think it's about a guy who does something to his girlfriend (probably cheating) and he can't get her to build her trust back up enough for her to trust him. This is a problem for him, because when your significant other doesn't trust you it can be annoying. So he has this inner conflict of whether to "drop out" and leave her or stay with her. It's a good song. I like it a lot. |

Amazing song, possibly +44 greatest achievement. From reading what others wrote (and listening to the song on repeat) I think I'm gathering that it's just about pain. "Death" being the end result of life, and according to the song "a little death makes life more meaningful", so the "little death", I'm assuming is some form of pain, most probably emotional/mental. I don't know, I could write more but I feel like others have written here and grasped the song better than I described it. |

Such a great song, first off. The deep, longing, aching vocals are perfect. The drums add a necessary rythm throughout and the keyboard is used effectively. The lyrics seem to imply the songwriter is depressed and is possibly regretting or hopelessly wishing something. I think, much like what Zani posted before me, whatever Sam says is the truth, since he wrote the goddamn song. I just think it's about a guy who treats this person (whether they be male or female) as a ways of escape and a way to forget about the hardships and depression that life may dump on us, but in the end he knows he'll always feel unfulfilled and empty when the time they spend with that person is over with. A great song with an incredibly realistic and true-to-heart meaning. |

"It doesn't matter much to me, as long as it's dead." Such a great line. Sounds simple and to the point, and probably was meant to be, but the seemingly underlying meaning (for me) is great -- your current lover was hooked on someone else for a time, and you're left wondering if they still have feelings for that other person. I don't know, that's what I got out of it. |

OK, it's pretty simple to get. It's about a girl (who is probably a woman now) who was abused by her father. The relationships with men that occur after the fact are all poisoned by her lack of self-respect and confidence. Wow -- "He wore a hole in her skin, now all the boys lookin. Is there anybody in there?" has got to be one of the best lines of all-time. Just expertly worded. Awesome symbolism. |

I feel like the lyrics (in some parts atleast) tell us that he's seen a girl like no other (the "angel") and he feels like he can't ever have her (much like many other songs)... But then he talks about his punishment fitting his crime and that's where I'm not so sure... I'm thinking maybe his punishment is that he'll never see the girl again and maybe he wants to do something so he can...and maybe whatever he wants to do is bad (the "crime")... I'm really not so sure...Anyone else? It's a great song without knowing any meaning whatsoever, but there's a lot to this song, I think. |
