Shawn Colvin – Twilight [Live] Lyrics
|
This song was written by Robbie Robertson and Rick Danko in 1975.
Recorded by The Band, but my favorite cover is Shawn Colvin's.
I googled Robertson's bio but it says nothing of him serving in the military,
so this song might be about a friend or something he saw in the news.
This song is a story about a Vietnam vet who asks his brothers in arms to stay in touch by phone or in-person, not just Christmas cards.
Twilight is a metaphor for old age. Robbie knows that seniors can become isolated and lonely.
So, the singer does not wanted to be forgotten in his Twilight years.
He knows that bad things happened in Vietnam, but the singer will not judge. |

I could instantly hear his father\'s voice in his. And I hadn\'t known that James Taylor had a son. This is a really soulful song. |

Sara Bareilles – She Used to Be Mine Lyrics
| 2 years ago
|
This song is in Bareilles\' 2015 musical "Waitress", in which the titular character is in an abusive marriage. See Wikipedia about that.\n\nThe waitress reflects on the mistakes she\'s made and the bad situation she\'s in. She doesn\'t like the person she\'s become and wishes she could go back in time for a do-over. She realizes she hasn\'t understood what healthy love is. So it has led her into a marriage with the wrong man. Complicating matters: she\'s pregnant. Can she bring herself to leave the bad relationship? What\'s best for the future of her child? |

Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band – Main Street Lyrics

This song is creepy. It describes how the neanderthal values of his hometown got him, as a youth, sexually obsessed with an exotic dancer. He stalked her by waiting outside the club at closing time. Did she see him then? Was she concerned for her safety? |

James Taylor – Handy Man Lyrics

Yes, it's sexual. He's bragging that he provides awesome orgasms to women. First he whispers sweet things. Then he uses his handy hands. Then she cums, a lot. And she feels so much better. Apparently girls gossip and he gets referral business. |

With Colvin I never know if her lyrics are a metaphor about unrequited love, or literal, in this case, about soldiers we send into war. Maybe it's both. |

Why did he just let her go?

@[kreniigh:18823] I think that's a bit cynical. In the song, they had a relationship that wasn't working, apparently because they weren't communicating well. Maybe they got a second chance. |

Heart – All I Want to Do Is Make Love to You Lyrics
| 8 years ago
|
This song was written by Mutt Lange, who cheated on then-wife Shania Twain for their ugly housekeeper. Subsequently Shania hooked up with the housekeeper's hottie husband.
So you have to expect low-class values from Mutt, and he delivers with this song's lyrics: Woman does random one-nighter unprotected-sex with strange man. In the AIDS era. She either planned to get pregnant without even bringing up the subject with the man, or, made up a lie about it later as an excuse. Plus, she does all that without telling hubby, making him think it's his baby? This is womens' lib?
So this catchy song gets played widely on airwaves as behavior example to teens.
Mutt & Heart deserve some clap for this. |

A deep love relationship is a flight. Exhilarating take-off. Sunshine above bad weather beneath. Travelling the world at 600 MPH. At that moment you first realize it's over, what does it feel like? As the relationship crashes, how do you see the world? Does it invade your dreams? |

Lenny Kravitz – Black Velveteen Lyrics

Exactly! People often make the mistake of believing science fiction is about the future. SciFi is a vehicle for talking about the now. Tell you what, though. In the future, when a real top-of-the-line Black Velveteen is on the market, the lyrics of this song will still be relevant. |

Gordon Lightfoot – If You Could Read My Mind Lyrics

I finally understand this song. It is exactly about me. I am trapped in a marriage where there has been no romance for years. We do not talk about it. There can be no point in talking about it. We both know nothing will change. There is no attraction. We have young kids who have no idea this is going on. We remain friends and are cooperative. It would be impossible for me to "cheat" because there is nothing left to cheat on. But it is not easy to seek a discreet relationship under such circumstances. |

Joe – I Wanna Know Lyrics

|
I'm a singer, and this is one of my favorite songs to sing. There has been so much to learn from this song. Firstly is Joe's pure light tones. The lyrics have a gentle rhythm, which lends to the overall romantic feeling. He does a lot of little things that perhaps some listeners do not notice. He throws in a lot of little softly percussive sounds (uh, oh, ah, mm, no, so, yeah), as well as subtle audible rhythmic breath in between phrases. And he recorded like a dozen tracks to form the super-smooth chorus and harmony, which there's obviously no way to do live with one singer. |

Toni Braxton – Love Shoulda Brought You Home Lyrics

Funny thing, this song was written by 3 guys including Kenneth Edmonds, whom is better known as Babyface.
This is a great song. Toni delivers it brilliantly, which is one reason there aren't any commercial covers of it.
I might be the only guy in the world who sings this on Karaoke night. I do sing it an octave down. I switch out "why do men think" for "why do some girls think". |

Indigo Girls – Peace Tonight Lyrics

Not sure what clovus was smoking. This is one of Indigo Girls' best songs. Really catchy with great harmonies. Could dance swing to this.
My interpretation of the lyrics is that the relationship with her lover had gone a little edgy, maybe they had an argument. But now Emily is focused only on the positive. Wants to go have fun day/night together and make love. Maybe I'm reading too much into the "moon is bare". |

George Michael – Kissing A Fool Lyrics

"Kissing a Fool" is George Michael's best song by far. I'm learning to sing it (-2 steps). The Michael Buble version is OK, but GM's original is best. There are a number of very good covers on y**tube. See: Pedro Garcia, Sung Si Kyung, willboy024, John Jacques, Edyta Gorniak, ...
Obscurusvita above is partly wrong about the "woman" part above, since GM has been gay forever. I feel this song can apply to most any asymmetrical romantic breakup. I have been on both ends of breakups and really feel the pathos of this song.
In December 2011 GM contracted a very serious case of pneumonia in Vienna and was close to death. Fortunately, he seems to have come out alright, and we'll see him on tour again maybe in 2012. |

Nickel Creek – This Side Lyrics

|
This is a fantastic song and I was sad when Nickel Creek split up.
I'm guessing this song is about a first love. The first trauma of falling in love changed the lyricist forever, awakening him. As painful as it was, the experience expanded his mind/emotions and made him an inspired artist. Now that he's had a taste of it, he would never go back. He sees new possibilities on every horizon. |

Shania Twain – I Ain't No Quitter Lyrics

I should mention that karma seems to reign. Mutt turned out to be the man in this song. He suddenly left Shania for her then-best friend, Anne-Marie. Weirdly, Shania hooked up with Ann-Marie's husband and they are now married. But if you've seen the photos, you know Shania got the better end of that deal. |

I agree with Jay F. This song must be a bad influence on girls, especially educationally challenged ones. If that type of POS man is good enough for Shania, well he's sure good enough for any girl, right? That said, I admit that musically I find this song catchy. |

Bob Marley and the Wailers – Turn Your Lights Down Low Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
This is one of the most beautiful love songs ever. The lyrics express with simple -- but precise -- poetry a message for Rita which will last forever. I'll bet that unfortunately Marley's rendition on Exodus did not manage to capture his best arrangement/performance. Lauryn Hill's re-make is OK. Personally I prefer what Colbie Caillat and Justin Young have done, which you can see/hear on youtube and on her album Summer Sessions. |

The B-52's – Bushfire Lyrics

This is totally about cunnilingus. Her bush is burning hot with need. The "smoke" (maybe scent) is in his eyes as his face gets up close and personal. Makes her feel warm all over, as they lay on the ground/bed, her hips dancing. Hold back, don't cum yet. Lighting strikes twice. Then basking in the afterglow. A bit ironic for Fred to be singing, since he's gay. |

Joe Walsh – The Confessor Lyrics

I wonder if this is in reference to Confessors in the Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind, also popularized on TV as Legend of the Seeker. A Confessor is a magical woman who, by touching you and releasing her power, can take control of your mind and prompt you to tell or do anything. |
