I don't think is about lost friends or some guy dumping her and breaking her heart - I think the blame is mutual. I think they both miss each other - maybe the guy a little more than the girl, but they both do none-the-less. I think they broke each others heart, not a one way street. In my opinion He's always loved her. He loved her when they split, and its still in the back of his mind, seeing her really brought it out. He tried to play it cool but in reality fell apart. I love the last part where the singer keeps repeating "you just have to see her" over and over again - I think it conveys a sense that maybe he JUST MISSED HER. Maybe moments before he rounded that corner, or passed through that door - she got into her new bf's car and was gone. I've pictured a scene in my head where she's discretely checking to see if followers her, and that for all she can tell, he dosnt. She drives off into the night - and perhaps its the last time they ever see eachother. |

Hey guys, dont forget Haileys comet is a comet that comes around once ever 20 years or so. Haileys comet is a good way to reference a long period of your life passing by. It sounds like the singer is trying to say that he's aware of that time marker passing by. Perhaps he's a young man who feels its time to break away from the nest and live out his life so that when Haileys comet returns it wont ask him why he's running in place, or maybe he's a grown man who is a late bloomer and finds himself staring up at Haileys comet again while she asks him what he's waiting for. All in all, the song to me is about that fleeting sense of youth, that before we know it Haileys comet will be back, and we'll wonder where that last 20 years went. So we need to live now, make our moves, break away, live our lives, so that when Haileys comet returns we'll have a story to tell her, not just excuses. |

Wow, the first post! To me, I feel that Cash is giving a story of a young cowboy passing away in order to describe himself taking leave of his life and youth. His song is sung for a fictional cowboy, but if you read the lyrics, I think the cowboy is really supposed to be him. He's saying that the young man he once was is gone and all the things he did, all the people he loved, they are all gone now too, and he's asking that his memory be honored because of it. I think the song is about the past being sacred. |

Like, she likes him, maybe is even in love with him secretly, and once he catches on, he just kinda plays along, teasing her just enough to stick around - but he dosnt really want her, it just makes him feel good to feel wanted. Meanwhile, its torturing her. So she's basically saying she's onto him and she's not going to be his stepping stone anymore. This song...how can I even begin to describe what it means to me. Its one of those songs that we all have...one of those songs that the first time you hear it, it just speaks to you, as if you've just been waiting your whole life to hear it. What does it mean to me? It means feeling sorrow. Sorrow that occurs because as much as you loved someone, or something, you're leaving it behind. And now, without it or them - your blind, just feeling your way through the dark until you can see on your own again. You thought you had it down pat. but now you realize you don't know anything, so your going to leave it to stargazers since you figure they can figure it out better than you, for all you know. And you can't find light anywhere, without that thing or person, everything is darkness. You left because its what was best to do, but you didn't leave without your wounds. And just before you leave them behind forever, you can't help but take one last look over your shoulder, to see what your leaving behind. Thats what that song means. |

I agree with what other people are saying about this song, that it means that she is saying if she were a boy she wouldnt treat a gf like that. However, my personal experience puts a different spin on the lyrics. For me, this song is speaking about a boy who isnt man enough to step up to the plate and recognize whats standing right in front of him. And she's saying that if he dosnt stop acting like a boy, dosnt stop disregarding her....she's gonna leave and she's in effect trying to give him a little wisedom when she says "and everything you had got destroyed" - because SHE knows what they could have together, and she knows that he's not going to realize it until its too late. Thus, she's saying that at the end of the day, I'm going to be fine, its YOUR world thats gonna come crashing down. |
