I think it's about someone who's obviously not living the life they long for and the speaker sees that and hopes they'll find that life soon enough. The person isn't really living their own lives and they're just wasting time and they're tired. They're "a rubber band stretched to the point of breaking" and "walking through a desert land," as opposed to living, laughing, and loving. |

Awww, I love this song!
I think it's about how depressing life seems ("blue skies gone grey") and even beauty seems ordinary ("look at the blue skies, just another day") without the person you love. It's about missing them and the feelings they gave you and how that when they're gone, everything is different. Everything feels boring and dreadful. |

It's about a guy who's just asking for a chance. He's wasted so much time believing he didn't need anyone ("I didn't wanna be tied down", "All this time I took second guessing"), but now he sees life differently ("Not being tied down ain't the same as being free... you set me free"). He knows that all he wants now is to be with the one who will make him feel and set him free and all he wants is for her to take a chance on him. He's more than willing to let her in if she's willing to give him another shot.

Personally, this song to me means getting away from all of the stress and drama in life and being free ("I love it when you're free"). This means sometimes going through "Shady Lane" to get to your destinations. Forgetting regrets and just embracing the adventure...

I think it's about letting someone get to you, especially someone who has hurt you so many times before. I agree with a few people on here, I think it's more about a family relationship than a romantic one... Family can hurt you too. And it's like you don't recognize this person anymore, even though they are your own flesh and blood. They're just so different that it hurts and they might not even know that they are hurting you.
