Pat Flynn's lyrics are really needed at this time in hardcore. Current bands sound and represent all the same stuff. Armed with a mind is a very strong song that hits a major flaw in society with a brief message. And about sXe. The ideal of being straight edge was because people knew that when others drink nonstop and use drugs they can't control their sense of logic and usually end up portraying ideals represented in this song (Using violence, drinking to "fit in", etc). Which makes the whole idea of militant straight edge (believing that if your not sXe your ways are wrong) almost an oxymoron. I personally think straight edge is respectable if, and only if, its a personal promise and not something to go around pushing on other people. But if hardcore was only filled with straight edge bands I think it would completely undermine the points of hardcore and straight edge. Which both are about being yourself, staying true to yourself, and not being afraid to portray your own image. |

| Attacking all the people who have to put other people down just to find some sense of equality for themselves. The song is voicing the fact that friends and influencial music is all you need, and when you break someone else down it just shows your own weakness. | |
