Rise Against – Make It Stop (September's Children) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I am not a Christian, but I do respect the faith and have many a friend that is a christian... All open minded Christians at that, seeing as I am homosexual and they are well aware and they were never bothered by it one bit. I've actually discussed with them this topic... If I were to be quite literal, as you are being, the dictionary definition of "christian" is "a person that believes in Jesus Christ." So, simply because someone does not follow every last thing the bible says does not mean that they are not being christian. In reality, very few churches follow the teachings word for word. Christian churches all have one thing in common... they believe in God and they believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God. Other than that, their beliefs tend to vary seeing as the book itself can be translated and interpreted many ways. You are correct in saying that the book does call it an abomination for a man to lie with another man... but that is merely one interpretation and one translation. The book was originally translated from a different language (Hebrew, I think?) many of the sentences can not translate literally in to the English language, so the translation itself may be a tad off... and even if it is a literal translation, some believe that the line itself is referring to male prostitution rather than homosexuality. I believe your first comment was correct, the christian religion in general does have a singular, same god... but his traits vary depending on how the book is interpreted. If every person claiming to be a Christian would have to follow every last teaching of the bible, then very very few people would actually be considered Christians (and if they did, I think many today would consider that a form of extremism...) and since there isn't really one, singular interpretation of the bible anyways then it'd make it even more impossible for anyone to truly be considered Christian by your definition. Personally I'd like to think that maybe there is a god, and if there is then I certainly hope he wouldn't "damn a heart", especially when the act is out of love, not hate... which is another teaching of the bible. "Love thy neighbor", right? Maybe I'm an optimist but I'd like to think it means love thy neighbor even if she or he is a homosexual. There's many good teachings in the bible too! |
Dashboard Confessional – Living In Your Letters Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I uhm. Think of it differently I guess? I can see how it's about long distance relationships. But my own meaning would be... He's so scared she's going to hurt him. He's 'always assuming the worst" but yet she doesn't leave him and doesn't let him down. And he's saying that no matter how much he looks like he's trying to pull away, he doesn't mean to. He loves her and he will always love her. But she thinks he's uninterested and they're getting farther away from each other and growing distant from each other. But he's saying that "there's no need to test [his] heart with useless space." That she doesn't hyave to test him to make sure he loves her. Because he does. And in the last stanza, he's saying that he's going to fall. And he's going to fall hard. And even if he gets hurt, falling in love with her will be worth it. Because he loves her, and he isn't afraid to fall. |

Owl City – The Saltwater Room Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think I interpret this slightly differently than everyone else, heh n__n; But that's alright, because I generally do. and maybe someone will, by chance, have the same idea as me? I'll attempt to make it in to a bit of a story :] Perhaps, it's about how these two people have spent forever together. He "opened his eyes", and saw her "in the low light", or the darkness. This could mean that he sees the dark in her, the imperfect part. They know each others faults, they have a multitude of memories of one another. And when they look at each other, they see not only the good things about one other, but the imperfections as well. And they still love each other, not despite the imperfections but because of them. Because the imperfections are what makes them real. They're just outside together, "walking down by the bay, on the shore, staring up at the planes that aren't there anymore." They're just trying to kill time together, the planes were an event from the night. Maybe they're thinking that if they pretend that the planes are still there, and try to pause time and just keep that one frame in their heads, then the night will go on just a bit longer. So that maybe, just maybe they'd be able to steal a few more precious seconds. But still, he is "feeling the night grow old" and she was "looking so cold", and he knows that there isn't much time left. But, yet, even though their time for the night is almost up, they're still nervous around each other. He, "like an introvert, ...drew my over shirt." Which is unlike him. But, he's nervous in a good way. In that tingly, "shiver violently", sort of way, that sends chills up your spine. He's shivering because she's looking past his outside, and seeing the truth of the situation. Just like how he saw her darkness, now she is seeing his as well. All around them are these "tunnels", that run "into the dark underground." Metaphorically speaking, these tunnels could be all the problems and the pitfalls that they could fall in to that would break their relationship. But there, in the middle of all the problems and failures, she "happened to look and see the tunnels all around me." She sees the problems, but she sees him as well. He's there, despite the problems, despite the complications. Almost like the silver lining. And though the probability of their relationship failing is great, what they could be is worth the risk. He says "farewell" to his "motion fatigue", meaning that he's saying goodbye to his weariness of moving that he has had as of late. Meaning that all he wants to do is be with her, alone, no longer moving from place to place, in "a saltwater room." "As if you actually were inside a saltwater room", where magic happens, and they can just be alone together, and just be themselves. It's like, a magic place that they dream of. Where the problems don't exist. Where it's only them. And even surrounded by the cold and the darkness, they can just be together and close their eyes and pretend that they're there. Though, "time together is just never quite enough", they look forward to the moments that they can be together. No matter how much time they spend together, they're always desperate for more. And when they are alone, he's "never felt so at home." Home is where you belong, home is where you are loved and accepted and that's how he feels when he's alone with her. Being alone with him makes her beg the question, "What will it take to make or break this hint of love?" They love each other and it's there and they can feel it. The smallest movement in either direction, towards or away from each other, will decide if they end up falling into the "tunnels", or if they can make something of this, quickly growing, thing that they have; together, in the fantasy of the "saltwater room". All they are asking for is "time, only time" to figure out where they want to go, and if it's worth the risk. But it's inevitable, they can't stop thinking of each other. In her head, she wonders, "When we're apart, whatever are you thinking of?" She is wondering if he is thinking about her, and of their relationship and where it's going to go now, with so much darkness around. By himself, in the loneliness of his own house, he is thinking, "If this is what I call home, why does it feel so alone?" But it's because she isn't there with him. Home isn't home without her. The question she's dying to ask is "Do you wish we'd fall in love?" She wants him to. She wants him to want her as much as she wants him. But, what she doesn't know is that he does wish it "all the time, all the time." They just can't seem to admit it openly, no matter how strongly they may feel. But he is beginning to grow weary again, from being so worried over what she thinks of their being together. He finally confronts her, and tries to explain his feelings. He asks her, "Can you believe that the crew has gone and wouldn’t let me sign on?" meaning that all of the people in his life have finally let him be, and all he has left to lose is everything he ever wanted; her. He's turning his back on the people that might have not wanted them together, people that filled his head with all the reasons why they weren't going to work out, and maybe not even by choice. They left without him, they ditched him, and they made his decision for him by betraying him. This leaves him free to love whom he chooses, without others being there to inform him of what could go wrong. For him, she's the only choice. She's all he can think of now. Next he says, "All my islands have sunk in the deep, so I can hardly relax or even oversleep." With everyone else gone, she's all he can think about. All of his "islands", the plots of land where the seeds of doubt were planted by "the crew", have sunk, and are gone. So now he "can hardly relax or even oversleep", because every time he tries to relax, and every time he dreams, all he can dream about is her. And the possibility of them. It makes him so anxious that he can't even settle down long enough to do basic things he needs for living. He tell her that he feels "as if I were home some nights, when we count all the ship lights", because the ship lights remind him of her, and how only when he's with her, does he feel like he's truly home. And even though he'll "never know why sparrows love the snow", it doesn't matter. He doesn't have to know everything to be happy. He doesn't need his "crew", he doesn't need his "islands", all he needs is her, and the perfect place that they dreamed up together. The "saltwater room." Because now there's nowhere left for him to go. The crew took the ship, the islands have sunk. But that's okay now. That's okay because, together they make magic. Because, together, anywhere they are is home. She's home. They are the "saltwater room." And then he finally says, "We’ll turn off all of the lights and set this ballroom aglow." It's what she wanted to hear all along. That even though he gave up everything for her, it was okay. She was worth it. In my mind I picture her smiling as she asks... "So tell me darling, do you wish we’d fall in love?" He smiles back, and replies... "All the time." |
Gregory and the Hawk – Boats and Birds Lyrics | 14 years ago |
My girlfriend was uhm. She was having a bad day. So I called her, and sang her this song. And she says she thinks of that now whenever she hears it. She also calls me her star :] Though secretly she is mine. And basically I interpret it as, I'm her's. I live to make her happy, to make her talents stand out, and to try and help her do everything she ever dreamed of. But if she finds someone better. And she decides that they're better for her than I am, and that they would make her happier than I could. Then if she leaves me for them, I would understand. Because I can't honestly expect her to stay with someone like me. When she's someone like her. Well uhm, that's my interpretation, molded in to my life. heh n__n; |
