Blonde Redhead – Dr Strangeluv Lyrics 5 years ago
I don't think this is about misanthropy. I think there's deeply imbedded in the song a feeling of appreciation for being around others, but maybe from some distance, but I don't think that distance is intentional, it's more circumstantial, like something inevitable. And this what I think this is about. It's about relationships and how the fluctuate over time. I was watching the other day a video on YouTube where Kazu talks about the making of this song, and I am unsure if I understood correctly, but it seemed to me that she said that this song was about her fans, her colleagues, her friends, in general, the people she has interacted with and that she wonders who's gonna stay after all, who's really there for her. "Looking everywhere I see nothing but people. Where have they gone? I always thought I could never leave them. They are calling me, they don't know I can't stay all night long". I don't know how Dr, Strangeluv fits into all of this, maybe it's just sort of a wordplay of the words strange and love and not referencing a specific person or character. But indeed, this is so sad, it is true.

The Notwist – Boneless Lyrics 6 years ago
I also think this song is about being an outcast. Imagine not having bones, just meat, soft and tender, without structure. I think that's what they mean by boneless, maybe others call him that way. It's being sensitive, in tune with their emotions, unorganized (creative), like an artist type of person. "This town is all in hell" and "You'll always run from here" is just a way of saying he's tired of all of this, he dreams of escaping this little town, that he thinks, in his anger and frustration, that is full of closed minded people with no aspiration for something meaningful or beautiful and that celebrate mundanity and do not appreciate "the important things". Like the movie "Ghost World" or other songs from them like "Trashing Days" or "One Step In Doesn't Mean You'll Understand". It's a recurring theme with Notwist.

The Notwist – Close to the Glass Lyrics 6 years ago
I love this song btw. And I feel that way about that song beause I've been in that position many times. Opening up and getting hurt. It's life and that's how we learn. We soon have to realize there's no light out of all the places. And we also have to learn to let go and not let these feelings poison us. Because faith is actually not that bad, it's purpose. Maybe that's why it's practically the first song in the álbum. And also why it ends with They Follow Me. "And I'm not afraid of nothing else".

For me this song adresses a particular feeling when you decide not to fall for illusions ever again because you were hurt. You let your guard down, you trusted someone or something and they betrayed you. You're probably going to fall for more illusions in the future. Even in the instrumentation, it tries to capture that sense of rage and anxiety and desperation, audibly hurt and all over the place, chaotic and tumultuous.

I'm in love with this band and this album is pure genius. Definitely one of the best albums I've listened to. It's full of evocative lyrics and interesting imagery. And good music too.

@[gravedadzero:22090] A combination of the two.

Maybe the chorus goes like this:
But we like it from that point of view
So we stay here and BARE until dawn everyday
And we stay here and BEAR everyday

I like both interpretations. Tired of the false optimism and affection in the world, so he have to bare until dawn everyday (as in undress).

But also about lack of affection and compassion, so he have to bear it until dawn everyday (as in tolerate)

Love this band

@[anek61:22088] I'm kinda seeing it. The part about chemicals, still unsure, but the other part fits. I'm at least sure it's not about chemicals per se.

The Notwist – No Encores Lyrics 6 years ago
I also think this song is about casual sex, about one night stands. It reminds me of a big crush I had two years ago. We met online and most of our interactions were there, we just met twice in person and, even it there wasn't sex involved, we got naked and we were kinda numb because we were a bit drunk. But we stopped talking since then.

Only the numbers remain, there were no encores. :(

The Notwist – Sleep Lyrics 6 years ago
@[Transitory Mind:21159]

I've never been in a relationship and I relate to this song.

I think the part that says "someone has sleep for me, or is it all just letters and poems?" is like saying "someone has to think about me before they sleep or when they sleep, someone must be in love with me, right? Or that kind of thing only happens in literature and poetry (in music, in films)?"

It's being romantic and disillusioned.

Wild Beasts – Pregnant Pause Lyrics 10 years ago
I think it's more reasonable to interpret this song as it were sang to a second person but there are some songs that I instinctively feel were sang by me to me. This is one of those. As someone that's devoted to understand oneself, I think some parts of this song fit perfectly with my feelings about introspection, specially the chorus.

sometimes my heart hurts to watch you
there's a blind spot that i can't get to
sometimes you seem like a lost cause
breathe a second feel that pregnant pause

Sufjan Stevens – To Be Alone with You Lyrics 10 years ago
You came up with a good interpretation and the first time I listened to it that was what I understood but I guess it came from a personal space since I'm homosexual but I think the God interpretation makes sense too and for the same reasons you came up with above. I also think that a song about the love of a man for his creator sounds less meaningful if we take it literaly, but that same thing can express other deeper emotions. God for me is the representation of an ideal I want to embody and the gift of life, our only chance to go beyond our humanity and make a positive difference around us, to fulfill a mission. When I yearn to be alone with him (and I'm using him because I'm a man) is because I want to be a good person. I'd give my body to be back again, to be given another chance, to reborn. In the other hand, me, an insignificant creature that's fated to roam this world alone, I was given the precious gift of live. What for? I was given this body but I only took the clothes. Why not all? Why haven't I embodied it all? It's a mix between regret and determination to become better.

I was thinking about the intro and the last part of the song, it sounds just like someone changing the TV channels quickly.
