Radiohead – A Punchup at a Wedding (No No No No No No No No) Lyrics 14 years ago
It was always clear for me what this was about.
Those "strictly British" sayings that you all are talking about... can't be, because I'm American and I've heard them all my life.
Now, I'm going to go through every line and say what the song means.

I don't know why you bother
(Why do you listen to music if you can't appreciate it?)
Nothing's ever good enough for you
(My band just tried its absolute best, and you dismissed it as if it was nothing!)
(By the way) I was there
(See that in the video? Yeah, that was me up on that stage.)
It wasn't like that
(Clearly, whatever it is you saw, you misinterpreted.)
You've come here just to start a fight
(The only reason you say things about peoples' music is to create controversy which makes you money.)
You had to piss on our parade
You had to shred our big day
(You saw us having a blast, and we became your targets. We didn't deserve that.)
You had to ruin it for all concerned
(Our momentum is seriously damaged now, just because of what you said.)
In a drunken punch-up at a wedding, yeah
(The "wedding" is beautiful art of music, and the "drunken punch-up" is a fight that doesn't belong)
Hypocrite opportunist
(Oh, is that a Linkin Park CD that you're hiding there? My bad, I thought you liked music.)
Don't infect me with your poison
(I'm not going to let your stupid comments bring me down)
A bull in a china shop
(People like you are unspeakably destructive.)
When I turn around, you stay frozen to the spot
(You talk quite a bit when I'm not paying attention, but when I respond? Jackass.)
You had the pointless snide remarks
(Think before you speak, and then don't.)
Of hammerheaded sharks
(You, and critics like you, feed on the blood of good bands.)
The pot will call the kettle black
(Yeah, I'm talking to you. Get out YOUR fucking guitar.)
It's a drunken punchup at a wedding, yeah
(etc etc.)

Was that so hard?
Also, the people that argue simplicity. Thom Yorke got an English degree at Exeter. Really.

Well, yeah. They have their own views, of course, and they're going to express them.

But to say the entire HTTT album is a "smart-ass attack at Bush"? That would just be shallow! Do you really think that? So, you ignored the doublethink reference? You missed the song about the constant war between the Id and the Superego (circa Freud)? The love song totally escaped you?

Thom Yorke is with the same girlfriend that he was with some 15 years ago.

Speaking of which, when are the two lovebirds going to get married already?

Huh. You try to debunk politics (because everyone thinks it's the meaning of every Radiohead song, according to you), and instead suggest drugs.

What?

Radiohead – House of Cards Lyrics 14 years ago
This song could be compared with some Canadian Eskimo chick -- there are many layers to peel off before you get to the prize, and peeling off one... really... won't cut it (@unison).

Yes, there's the sex/marital aspect to this. Anyone else got an idea?
*raises hand tentatively* Alright, Ben! What do you have to say about this?
"Well, it could be a commentary about how fragile our seemingly stratified and permanent lives really are. Also, it could go with an overall album theme I have noticed about losing control of one's self/situation. That's just my opinion, anyway."
Very good, Ben! You kids should all take a leaf out of Ben's book!

Good song, though :-)

There are two meanings that always come up for a Radiohead song.

Love, and pollution.

Surely they didn't write all of their songs about those things?

I can't. I can relate to "Pyramid Song", though. Oh, and "Every Single Song on Kid A and Amnesiac and Most on Their Other Albums Too". It's just... Creep kind of sucks.

"This song" is a catchy tune that the band didn't like because it had little substance. Take a peek at "How to Disappear Completely".

And yes... I realize you probably already have, 8 years later. I just couldn't let that comment go untouched.

Do I even need to say "I love this song"? It's become an unnecessary formality, though true.

Actually, when I read "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut, this song really reminded me of the ending. It was all very bleak and depressing, yes, but also beautiful, in a way -- not to mention poetic.

Any word on the possible reason for including a lyric from the nursery rhyme "Ten in a Bed" (there were ten in the bed and the little one said roll over)?

I can't believe iTunes has this as, like, the second lowest-rated song on the album.

To each their own, but I think it's about being fake in general. When I listen to it, I feel a sort of cross between self-hatred and being trapped in an impregnable cage. Think "Hamlet".

You know what? You could go with "Hamlet" on a lot of Radiohead songs, now that I think about it...

Radiohead – Myxomatosis. (Judge, Jury, & Executioner.) Lyrics 15 years ago
Actually, Thom has said something on this.
To quote from TOW:
"If the motivation for naming our album had been based solely on the [recent] U.S. election, I'd find that to be pretty shallow."
and...
The title of the album is considered by some to be a reference to an anti-Bush chant (itself a play on "Hail to the Chief", a march played to announce the arrival of the President of the United States) that was used by activists during the controversy surrounding the 2000 U.S. presidential election.[6] However, the band has emphasised the wider political context of the slogan, citing its use during the 1888 election.

I agree, it probably isn't all about bushwhacking. When I first saw it, I figured the title of the album was actually glorifying thieves. Personally, I still think that's a good idea...
