Ray LaMontagne – Empty Lyrics 13 years ago
Ray LaMontagne knows how to write music that speaks to the soul. I honestly never get tired of listening to his songs. I just love this song so, so much, but in all honesty, I can't decide which of his songs are my favorite because they are all just so great.
I am fond of Empty for the simplicity of the actual music and how it intertwines with some deep words. And I can definitely relate to some of the words...
"I never learned to count my blessings, I choose instead to dwell in my disasters" "Will I always feel this way, so empty, so estranged" "I've been to hell and back so many times, I must admit you kind of bore me" "It's the hurt you hide that fuels the fires inside you"...
Such great music. Ray's music is a diamond in the coalmine with all the so-called music that's coming out these days.

The Band Perry – If I Die Young Lyrics 13 years ago
The first time I heard this song I hated it because it hit so close to home for me. A friend of mine passed away last summer and the words were just haunting. But now I've grown to really like the song, and I really don't think it's a negative song at all. I think it basically says, I've done all I've wanted/needed to do and if it's my time to go, don't feel bad for me because I have no regrets. It's so beautiful.

Greg Laswell – Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Lyrics 14 years ago
I absolutely love this cover. I hate the original but Greg's cover of it is one of my favorite songs. He just adds a whole new perspective to the song. Cyndi Lauper makes the song seem carefree and living-in-the-moment, but Greg's spin is serious and sad, but in a completely wonderful way.

Greg Laswell – Through Toledo Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this song is about getting out of some kind of funk - whether it be a bad relationship or just a time in your life. Like the lines "I need a drive up San Francisco bay...I'm not sure I belong here anyway"...I think they're just talking about taking a break from reality. My favorite part is the whole "I figure one day I'll snap out of this." That part's like the little bit of hope in the song, and that's what makes this song so brilliant.

Joni Mitchell – California Lyrics 14 years ago
This song makes me want to travel out of the country and fly back to the US to a California airport. There's just a sense of pride all throughout the song. Even though Joni's not from California, the way she presents the song makes it feel like she is.
I also like what teriyaki said about how the song doesn't necessarily have to be about California. It can really be about any place; a place you call home. That's what I love about this song.

Tim Myers – A Beautiful World Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm not sure if this song hints at Christianity or not, but there are some parts of the lyrics that suggest it could have Christian meaning.

Like when it says "I wanna shout it from the roof top and tell the world
That, I was blind but now I see what's right in front of me!"

It's quoting the song "Amazing Grace" and is perhaps saying that the singer found God and can't contain his joy over his newfound faith.

I think it's also interesting when it says "It's a beautiful world I see, everything looks differently."
That could also be an illusion of Christian faith because one could say that they see the world differently now that they have faith.

"I've been lost but now I've found what's right in front of me."

Again, a part of "Amazing Grace." I think that's pretty self-explanitory...the singer took for granted the world around him but when he became a Christian, he suddenly got a newfound beauty in the world.

Excellent song!

Lifehouse – Undone Lyrics 14 years ago
Such a great song. I think it can be deciphered two ways: one is what everyone else is saying, the typical relationship. But I like to think of it as a relationship with Jesus.
Lines like this make me think the latter option:
"I will be the one who's waiting / Any time you fall" --> God is always there for us no matter what's going on.
"You know I can't be like everybody / 'Cause I can't tell you what you want to hear / I don't know if I can make it better / All I know is I will be around" --> God isn't like people who short-change us; He's going to tell us how it is. And quite honestly, from experience, sometimes knowing that God is there just doesn't seem to ease the hurt, but we know that no matter what He will always be there and will never leave us, unlike people sometimes do in relationships.
"When all your hope is left, you know you're not alone / Just hold on" --> I love this line and I think it works brilliantly with the relationship with Jesus idea..even in the darkest times, we know that God is always there and will never leave us.

Lifehouse – All In All Lyrics 14 years ago
I love this song...one of my favorites from Lifehouse. I think it's just about realizing that no matter what situation you're in, whether it be just a bad day or a bad month or year, things are going to eventually straighten out. Everyday is a new opportunity to work towards getting things right again.
I also think it has spiritual/Biblical references. Like in this verse..

"So you lost yourself
So you lost your way
Found life through someone else
But you threw it all away"

It could be talking about anything when it says "so you lost yourself, so you lost your way." Perhaps someone lost their faith in God, or just their faith in themselves. "Found life through someone else"...I definitely see how it can be a relationship but I also see it as finding life through Jesus Christ, where He offers you everything you could ever need, but for whatever reason, you reject it.

Either way, it's a great song!

Sanctus Real – Things Like You Lyrics 14 years ago
To me this song just talks about growing as a Christian. There are always times where things will get us off track or attempt to get us off track and we have to dismiss them and get back with God.
I especially like where it says
"why are we obsessed with possessions here on earth?
Go and take a look at the flowers and the birds
God is always taking care of nature's every need
And how much more important in the Father's eyes are we?"
I can be quite the worrier but when I hear this song, I realize how naive it is to worry because if God can care for the simple creations He can certainly care for us. And all the time we've spent worrying, we don't even realize that God is taking care of us constantly.
Such a good song by a wonderful band.

Mat Kearney – Closer to Love Lyrics 14 years ago
This song means so much to me. It was over a phone call from my brother that I learned that his best friend died. The first time I heard this song after his death, my jaw dropped at how accurate the lyrics lined up with how I felt. Never did I think I would get a phone call about the death of a friend at such a young age. I've felt sad and lonely for so long, but I'v always looked to God to comfort me through it all. I don't even know what else to say. This song gives me chills, and I think it's easily relatable to many people.

I think this song is just talking about having hope even when we don't think there is any. The past three months, I've had to deal with the death of a close friend. This song has definitely spoken to my heart.

Sanctus Real – Whatever You're Doing Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is so full of emotion, especially when you've lost someone much too soon. A friend of mine died a few weeks ago, and a few days before he passed away, he put this song on his mom's iPod and she told him that she wanted this song played at her funeral. Who would've ever thought that just a week later it would be playing at his.

Sanctus Real – Benjamin Lyrics 14 years ago
"We've been friends for a long, long time
So if you can't talk, just cry
And know that we will talk on the other side
...and know that we'll be friends for the rest of our lives"

These are my favorite lines from the song. I recently lost a friend, and this song really makes me think about that and how even though it's hard to live without my friend, I know we'll be reuinted together in heaven someday.

Breaking Benjamin – Rain Lyrics 14 years ago
"Rain, rain go away
Come again another day
All the world is waiting for the sun"

This is my absolute favorite part of the song. I recently discovered it, but only because a close friend of mine recently passed away. This part of the song just really speaks to me because all the time, someone is experiencing some kind of loss or pain (the rain), and they're just waiting for the goodness to return (the sun). Good song.

This song is such a great encouragement to girls of all ages. Girls, don't find your value in material possessions or boys; find your value in Christ. I absolutely love how this song says exactly that.

John Mayer – Stop This Train Lyrics 14 years ago
The first time I heard this song was just a few days ago, just after a good friend of mine died at the age of 18. This song is just so emotional for me and means so much. The line "so scared of getting older, i'm only good at being young" hits me the hardest. I'm leaving for college in 2 weeks and even though I've hardly lived, I have lived in such a deep way by having to experience the loss of a friend. It's an awkward position to be in, but this song sums it up so, so well.

Switchfoot – Yesterdays Lyrics 14 years ago
I lost a good friend suddenly just a few days ago. The first song I listened to after I received the news was "Yesterdays." It perfectly sums up my past and current emotions over the death of my friend.
For someone who hasn't experienced a close loss, this song is just a reminder of what happens to people all the time. And when it's you who is experiencing the loss, the song just comes alive. Kudos to Switchfoot for creating the perfect song to remember my friend with.

Jars of Clay – The Valley Song (Sing of Your Mercy) Lyrics 14 years ago
This song has helped my church youth group get through the death of a fellow student. He was best friends with my brother and they always played this song for youth group worship. Such a powerful song with so much meaning, and it can really be interpretated for many different circumstances of life...from a death to just a tough time.
