The Wonder Years – Don't Let Me Cave In Lyrics 11 years ago
"I spent last night getting Mexican
Outside a Logan Square basement show with Evan"

A small little thing I noticed, but the Evan he's talking about here is Evan Weiss from Into It. Over It.

Paramore – Grow Up Lyrics 11 years ago
"Got my bedroom right then woke you out / Been a burden since the day I was born"

Jesus Christ, it's "got my band a light that won't go out / been burning since the day I was born" who came up with these lyrics?

Also, the part that's supposed to go "And baby, I don't want your pity / So don't feel sad for me / I got a love I would die for and a song to sing / Maybe we're both just living out our dream" is totally directed towards Sherri Dupree. Sherri wrote the song "Sad" about how sorry she feels for Hayley for dating her cheating ex-husband, Chad. Damn.

Title Fight – Shed Lyrics 11 years ago
"This song's about staying true to what you believe, and to me that's music and hardcore. This isn't a passing trend, this isn't something where you come and leave, this is something that is a life long commitment." - Ned

The Devil Wears Prada – Chicago Lyrics 12 years ago
pretty sure this is about mike's ex-girlfriend jade. she lives in chicago and they dated for a long time, like 4 or 5 years at least, i think. apparently he's with a different lady now.

Envy on the Coast – Clean of You Lyrics 12 years ago
"i think that boy's got a sweet tooth
so i'll put sugar in his gas tank, ooh ooh"

one of my favorite lyrics ever. for those who don't know, when you put sugar in someone's gas tank, it ruins their car engine. ryan's making a badass analogy here.

Cancer Bats – Grenades Lyrics 12 years ago
Pretty obvious, it's dedicated to the scene Cancer Bats came from. I remember reading in an interview somewhere that Heart Guts and Villains & Crooks are two clothing lines the guys really love. Almost every line in this song refers to their fans and tour life. So tight. I get really pumped when I listen to this!

Thursday – Magnets Caught In A Metal Heart Lyrics 13 years ago
Something Geoff said in an interview about the song: "I loosened up and wrote a song about all the chemical reactions and physical phenomenon involved in attraction and how often we mistake those feelings for love."

I really love the record player and vinyl idea, though.

Thursday – No Answers Lyrics 13 years ago
From an interview:

"'No Answers,' explores the concept of carrying on a friendship with a past lover. 'When you're with someone so long, there's more important levels to the relationship than simple romance,' Rickly said."

Thursday – A Gun In The First Act Lyrics 13 years ago
i just found this interview...

"Another theme explored on the album is the importance of symbolism in human interaction and the ways in which symbols -- particularly those promoting religions and other belief systems -- have been used to divide people. This concept is most thoroughly explored on the song 'The Gun in the First Act.'

'Sometimes, when you're broadcasting the meaning behind a symbol, you're downplaying the reality of what's really going on,' Rickly said. 'People get divided over these doctrines that may not have any real basis.'"

Thursday – A Gun In The First Act Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is about war. There are lines referring to losing faith, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, etc., and it sounds like it's from the perspective of a person who knows someone that went overseas and came back completely messed up.

There are so many questions and things we want to understand. there's so much we want to say someone who dealt with war but we will NEVER know what they went through. So I think this song is just like, I wish you never would've went off to war because you're not the same and there's nothing I can do about it...just the worst helpless feeling ever.

I really, REALLY doubt Meredith has/had anorexia. Just putting that out there. I think some of you guys are looking a little bit too much into the Annie line.

Eisley – I Wish Lyrics 13 years ago
this song is everything i love about eisley.

i believe it sums up that whimsical feeling you get when you're infatuated with someone you can't have. all you think about is how badly you want to be with them but they're not interested. you see so much in them and you know they'd be so perfect for you, but they just don't get it. i can definitely relate to that frustration. i think it's a beautiful song about wishful thinking, which happens to all of us at some point. we all want someone we can't have. all we can do is wish.

i think the song is about chad, however, i don't think it's about hayley williams. i thought chad and hayley got together after he divorced sherri?

the first two lines pretty much give it away that this song is about sherri's ex-husband chad gilbert.

Circa Survive – Lazarus Lyrics 13 years ago
lazarus is a biblical character who was raised from the dead, so i think the title refers to all the kids who bring up old, irrelevant things to anthony, like how he feels about saosin or why he won't play "seven years" anymore.

i can imagine how frustrating it is to apart of something successful like circa survive, yet people ask you about some band you started in high school. anthony just really doesn't care about zolof or saosin or anything he used to be in.

overall, i think the song talks about shit that don't matter, such as anthony's fame. so many people put him on a pedestal, but he's a regular guy. the whole song, anthony is saying like, i wish i wasn't famous because i don't care about that. at the end, he's thinking about how incredibly lucky he is that he gets to live his dream as a musician, but at the same time he feels really lonely because he probably can't find people who love him just for who he is.

he doesn't want to be "anthony green from circa survive!!!" and he doesn't want to be associated with things from his past, either.

You, Me, and Everyone We Know – Bootstraps Lyrics 13 years ago
only one comment? this is my favorite song of the album. i usually don't listen to bands like ymaewk, but i think they're one of the most genuine, uplifting bands out there. this song made me so unbearably happy the first time i heard it.

i wouldn't consider my life terrible, but i've been bullied and mistreated by people for as long as i can remember, and this song definitely stuck with me...i lived my life so long never loving or trusting anyone because all i knew was rejection, but eventually you make a decision to overcome that. i'm actually glad that's how i grew up, because i have fucking rhino skin and nothing phases me.

tl;dr this song is awesome and i relate to it way too much.

You, Me, and Everyone We Know – I'm Losing Weight For You Lyrics 13 years ago
anyone knows what he means by "but if you can hear this, I've had enough / of straight lines and heavy loads / i'm just not this tough"? when i read the straight lines thing, i thought of cocaine, but as far as i know ben wasn't into hard drugs...heavy loads seems to point to alcohol, though.

You, Me, and Everyone We Know – Some Things Don't Wash Out Lyrics 13 years ago
i think the line "you really can't afford to live like this" is so sad, it's probably a reference to "livin th dream" and it just reminds you throughout this album that so many people don't believe in them. it's bullshit.

Anarbor – The Whole World Lyrics 13 years ago
I think the meaning is rather obvious, but I love what Slade is saying. He admits that he's promiscuous and uses drugs, but people shouldn't judge him for it and consider him a bad person. People he knows are praying that the world won't be full of hateful people, but he argues that there are no bad seeds. Everyone makes mistakes and have their faults, but they'll grow up eventually. And he's saying that when you do grow up, you'll probably be as boring and ignorant as your family. So enjoy your youth while you can and don't let life pass you by.

Circa Survive – Glass Arrows Lyrics 14 years ago
"I wrote a lot of the instrumental of the song during the On Letting Go writing sessions but it never got messed with. It was one of the first instrumentals we pulled up to work on during the Blue Sky Noise writing sessions. We knew it was strong already but really wanted to add some insanity to it. That drum break stemmed from wanting to have parts where we could use auxiliary percussion and vocal chanting. We added that and the crazy guitar section at the same time. It really took the song to the next level. Then in the studio we had an idea to have the little kids screaming the chant with Anthony for a Pink Floyd “The Wall” effect. The words there are from a really immature young point of view too so I think it fits perfectly. “I don’t want excuses I don’t want apologies."

What Colin said about the construction of the song. The last part where he explains the chanting at 2:20 is awesome.

Circa Survive – Dyed in the Wool Lyrics 14 years ago
they are satisfied with atlantic and signed to a major label because they wanted to tour more countries and have more financial support.

don't portray atlantic like their some kind of bad guy. the dudes still love equal vision (considering they're in the "thank yous" section) and they've said the new label has been incredibly supportive. their is no label beef whatsoever on bsn.

and seriously, if the guys put together a "fuck you" album to the label they just got signed to, do you REALLY think atlantic would release it and promote it?

think before you post this garbage.

Circa Survive – Spirit Of The Stairwell Lyrics 14 years ago
i always thought anthony was referring to himself as annie. i've heard people refer to him as that before, and seeing "a different side of 'annie' nobody saw" would basically describe how he lost his mind after meredith had a miscarriage and it hurt their relationship.

i thought anthony said his mother-in-law's name was annie as a joke on the webcast, because nick burst out laughing and anthony laughed too.

but how would that explain "she tried to kill the baby" right after? or why would anyone want to kill the baby in general? :/

Circa Survive – Spirit Of The Stairwell Lyrics 14 years ago
in altpress a few months ago, there was a tiny paragraph talking about circa survive in the studio, and i remember reading that anthony said he spent time in like a mental hospital (i believe) after his wife had a miscarriage. today they announced they'll be on the june cover of ap so i'm sure that feature will go more into it.

i relate to this song a lot because my mom had a miscarriage, i think i was like 11 or 12 when it happened, but it's still one of the worst things that could ever happen to a person. i know anthony especially loves kid and i'm sure he wanted to start a family. :/ hopefully he and meredith will try again.

Envy on the Coast – The Great American T-Shirt Racket Lyrics 14 years ago
this song is about to write love on her arms.

i remember ryan said a couple years ago he couldn't stand twloha because of how fake it is, and all it really does is cash in and spread its name while accomplishing nothing, really.

i think the most powerful part is: "you made an emblem out of "the broken" "the kind of broken" the "i wish i was broken." this is so true about everyone i know who supports twloha. it's coming from the people who truly are fucked up, people with some problems (but problems that pretty much everyone goes through), and the people who really aren't suffering at all.

everyone needs to realize twloha is a sham. many people wear it simply to be like "yeah, i cut, and i'm depressed." congratulations. you've got a trendy t-shirt to match your scars that you cause just for attention.

La Dispute – The Last Lost Continent Lyrics 14 years ago
this is easily my favorite song off of the album.

i believe the first verse talks about your inner demons, like depression, sadness, bitterness, jealousy, everything, and i think jordan is talking about how sick he is of it effecting him and the people he loves. it seeems like he wants to just destroy it and rip it apart for everything it's done. ("for every lover you have ruined", "every life that you have taken") and put hope in its place.

the rest of the song really connects with me. like his view towards life is a lot like mine...there's always fear and insecurities and doubt in everything, but in the end there's always optimism and heart.

Craig Owens – Big Apple Heart Lyrics 14 years ago
kind of obvious. being a musician is the only thing craig feels right about, and even though he doesn't make a lot of money and isn't what society deems "successful", he's happy sharing his music with the world.

Dear and the Headlights – Grace Lyrics 15 years ago
i think it's simply about how people feel like they need to wear a ton of makeup to feel beautiful, have to have a degree to be smart, sucessful, and accepted, and so on. overall just a song jabbing at how people are so superficial and lie to themselves of what they think will make them happy in the end.

Dear and the Headlights – Oh No! Lyrics 15 years ago
reading it over, it seems like a guy is miserable in his relationship with his wife/gf/whatever and he cheats on her with another woman, and his partner kills the other woman out of jealousy. i feel pretty morbid for coming up with that conclusion, but it fits the lyrics in many of the parts.

for example:
"And it's one eye on the banquet table, The other on the door. And everyone's got reasons, But I don't have the same ones, And it's true Oh, no!"
like he's in an argument with her, and all he does is stare at the table to avoid her eyes and towards the door and imagine his life not being so miserable. and everyone has their reasons why they cheat, and he's simply unhappy.

or:
"I'm lying if I'm talking. It's what I don't tell you. You wouldn't like the truth. You wouldn't like it"
saying he's lying about everything in general, telling his partner he's satisfied, because he's not, and she would get angry if he said so.

there are some other bits too that could make sense, whatevs.

Two Tongues – Interlude Lyrics 15 years ago
i think this song is about two people, one has no idea who they are anymore and lost their way in life, while the other knows that life has something in store for them and they believe everything will be okay in the end. they meet a bar, and it must be early in the morning considering all the celebrities and drunks have left. they immediately see one another in each other's lives and want to start a relationship right away. they go back to one of their places to watch movies, and will bond and share about how their lives have led to nowhere.

that's what i got out of it.
