David Allen Coe – You Never Even Called Me By My Name Lyrics 15 years ago
Steve Goodman wrote this song with John Prine, anthough Prine is uncredited. They both wanted to write a formula Country song and they discussion turned into this song. It's got it all including the references to other singers which are popular in Country music.

This is a drunken bar sing along for sure.

Hank Williams Jr. – Whiskey Bent And Hell Bound Lyrics 15 years ago
A great song about regreting getting drunk and cheating on his wife, but under the surface it's revealed that the pain that causes him to drink is from the loss of his dad.

While that would be very hard on anybody, it's made unbearable to hear his dad pouring his heart out in songs like So Lonesome I Could Cry, or Your Cheatin' Heart.

Hank Williams Jr. – Ramblin' Man Lyrics 15 years ago
A great Hank Sr song covered by Hank Jr.

Hank Jr has a version that adds the following verse:

I heard Steve singing about Montgomery, in the in the rain
And lots of other folks worring all about daddy and his pain
I'm a son of the blues, you see
So don't worry about him, and don't worry about me.

You can feel the blues in his voice when he sings these words.

Hank Williams Jr. – Conversation Lyrics 15 years ago
Hank Jr, and Waylon Jennings talking about Hank Sr. This is the conversation that Hank Jr must have had a million times, and it makes a great song.

Hank Williams Jr. – All My Rowdy Friends (Are Coming Over Tonight) Lyrics 15 years ago
This song captures the feeling of a summer BBQ with good friends coming over perfectly. Later it because associated with Monday Night Football, but I love the original. Great to crank at a summer party.

Hank Williams Jr. – All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down) Lyrics 15 years ago
This song strikes a chord, with anybody that is setteling down. Hank Jr has taught us with many of his other songs that he hasn't.

Steve Earle – Johnny Come Lately Lyrics 15 years ago
Great song. This points out the differences between WW2 vetrans and Vietnam vetrans. World War 2 vets returned home as heros, and Vietname vets returned home as vilians.

Steve Earle – John Walker's Blues Lyrics 15 years ago
I read an interview from Steve Earle who said that when John Walker Lind was arrested, he thought he had a son about the same age, and that he wanted to write a song from his perspective. See the dad reference in the song. Everybody screws up at some point, and it's a shame that this kid got caught up in something over his head at a bad time. It's also telling that Steve Earle had the balls to point out that we as American's were going too far to make this kid a vilian, and tossing civil liberties out the window. It takes a strong character to be that correct and stand to your convicitions even when they are unpopular. Even better, he never backed down and let people overreact to the song, unlike the wavering Dixie Chicks. Appreciating this song, like art, doesn't make you a terrorist, or a Muslim.

Steve Earle – I Feel Alright Lyrics 15 years ago
Seems to written from the perspective of a drug user or maybe a dealer. I can't tell if he feels alright because he's using, or because he's not using for a change. Great song, and very catchy.

Steve Earle – Good Ol' Boy (Gettin' Tough) Lyrics 15 years ago
The great thing about this song is that it's timeless. My favorite line is, "Belongs to me and the bank and some funny talkin' man from Iran" A slave to gas prices. This hits home for anybody that works hard and feels trapped.
