Amanda Palmer – Blake Says Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I had a similar interpretation to some other people here - maybe it's about someone with Asperger's. It seems like there are clues, like misinterpreting social interactions or comments, not being able to maintain relationships, and preferring to leave a message rather than talk on the phone. |
Amanda Palmer – What's The Use Of Wond'rin' (feat. Annie Clark) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I'd have to agree that it's about an abusive boyfriend. On the surface, it sounds like a love song about caring about someone despite their quirks, but it comes off as much darker, especially given the crying sounds. That, plus the pictures on her website for the song have pictures of a woman that's been beaten. http://whokilledamandapalmer.com/song.php?track=9 |
Marina and the Diamonds – Seventeen Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Not sure if this changes anyone's opinion, but according to the lyric book, the line is "I used to kill myself in this dress," not "kid myself." That makes the whole song seem heavier to me. It seems to imply doing something harmful to deal with a trauma. I always thought the song was her trying to explain to a current boyfriend why she won't do certain things, or why she has a hard time with some things (maybe some sexual scenarios?) due to a past trauma. |
Anna Nalick – Breathe (2 A.M.) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yeah, that's definitely what I thought it was about too. Part of what the character in the song is dealing with. Reading these comments, though, visiting a psychiatrist also seems possible... I'm still stuck on the abortion idea though. |
The Killers – Don't Shoot Me Santa! Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't think it's necessarily about pedophilia, or anything particularly serious. It's a damn funny song, true Killers style - sounds like it's light and fun (especially being a Christmas song about Santa) but the lyrics are morbid, about a serial killer and a man out for justice. I love it. That said, if you've seen the video, "Santa" looks like a nutter that's decided to go out for his own kind of justice. That could be the joke here... especially having seen that episode of Futurama where Robot Santa takes it upon himself to kill anyone on the "naughty" list if he sees them out on Christmas Eve. |
Franz Ferdinand – Ulysses Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I'm pretty sure the lyrics go as follows: Well I sit and hear sentimental footsteps Then a voice say "hi," so So whatcha got, whatcha got this time C'mon, let's get high C'mon Lexo, whatcha got next door Walk 25 miles, oh Well I'm bored, I'm bored C'mon, let's get high C'mon, let's get high C'mon, let's get high, high Well, I found a new way I found a new way C'mon doll and use me I don't need your sympathy La, la la la la Ulysses I found a new way Well, I found a new way baby Am I Ulysses? Am I Ulysses? No, but you are now, boy So sinister, so sinister Last night was wild What's the matter, there Feelin' kind of anxious That hot blood grew cold Yeah, everyone, everybody knows it Yeah, everyone, everybody knows it Everybody knows it Everybody knows ah... La, la la la la Ulysses I found a new way I found a new way, baby La, la la la la Ulysses I found a new way I found a new way, baby Oh, then suddenly you know You're never goin' home You're never, you're never, You're never, you're never, You're never, you're never, You're never goin' home You're not Ulysses, oh baby, no La la la la You're not Ulysses La la la la The first verse is what I'm most sure of, because it makes sense... he hears footsteps, then hears a voice say "hi". Also, his name is Alex, so Lexo makes sense as a nickname... and whatcha got next door, that makes sense with the "walk 25 miles" to see what you've got. The story of Ulysses is the story of an epic journey, so "I found a new way" fits with that as well, and "you're never goin' home" because you're not Ulysses, who did make it back in the end. It's sort of the tale of Ulysses superimposed on a young person who's taking their own journey. The mention of "last night" and "hot blood grew cold" almost makes me think it could be about a one night stand, party, or just general sort of decision you can't take back, and "everybody knows it" and since it's out "you're never goin' home'" can't rescind the action. |
