| I disagree with your interpretation. wouldn't it be strange if the same band that has songs called like The God That Failed etc. now would do songs in which they worship the church?in addition hetfield had bad experiences with religion when he was a child.his parents died because of diseases they didn't want do fight with medicines because they were so religious that they thought god would cure them if they pray enough.well of course that didn't happen and hetfield had to watch them die without fighting against it because of church so i would guess that this is not a pro religion song | |

Well i think that it's about a loved one he lost as some of the others do.But the line "It won't be long, we'll meet again" could be about suicide but that would make no sence because of the line "Hopeing, praying that I'll find a way to turn back time, can I turn back time?" Why would you pray for so long if you wanted to kill yourself later anyway. |

Well i guess some here have played too much d2^^ mephisto and baal ar not lords of hatred or sth like that...blizz just took a little look on religion and saw that there are many names for the devil...just to count them:Ahriman,Angat,Antichrist,Asrael,Azazel,Baphomet,Beelzebub(comes from Bhaal they sacrificed to the Baal Sebul statues in summer too what made flies appear Beelzebub is like "lord of the flies"(also some songtitles by rage or therion are called lord of the flies),Beliar(1. one from d2.comes from Baal Sebur),Chutriel,Diabolus(here you got the second one from D2),Herr Urian(old german name),Lord of Hell(and stuff like that),Iblis,Luzifer(the devil was a fallen angel who startet a riot in heaven it's name was Luzifer),Mephistoteles(short:Mephisto here you got the 3.),Schaitan,Sanny(female form of devil) and pretty much more....wikipedia ftw :D and if the believe is right that if you say the devils name he will appear i will have a little problem now :) Epic Song and nice story but guess i will never read the book because it will take looooooong ^^ |

Well nice song about a man who served god long time and that god has nothing better to do than taking his wife as reward.you would be angry too if it happened to you i guess :) So for that he swears that he will take revenge at any cost. "Is this my reward for serving God's own war? The blood I've spilled for faith fulfilled. To damn her, a disgrace, you spit back in my face. I served you loyally, and you spew blasphemy." I guess this is where it comes out best.God spits in the face of a man who served him loyally. Rest of the song is mostly a description who he takes his revenge. |

Hmm it's really thoughtfull and amazing but we all know that so i won't write how amazing it is for now :P as demon lord above said it has some provoking lyrics too by saing that god is not neccesserily(?) better than the devil just because he's said to be good.He punishes Spawn for choosing love rather than his own life whats fairly unfair i guess.God and Devil using nearly same tactics or act in a similar way(both were said to play a "twisted game" in different songs) He pleas for death and is the good guy in the story,he doesn't even plea for freedom or paradise just for his own death to bring it to an end finally,but god denies it...beautiful song! |
