I wouldn't say most are "twisted love songs," but there are a few. "Closed Casket Requiem," "Flies," "A Vulgar Picture," and "Virally Yours" come to mind. Most are just death metal songs, dealing with horror topics. |

danimals, it's very cool to get your own interpretation of a song, but this is definitely another song dedicated to the Cthulhu mythos by H.P. Lovecraft. obvious references: "Echo cthulhu's screams," the chorus involves the "Old ones" - gods in the mythos, references to the galaxies and to the seas, etc... I love this one, but Thy Horror Cosmic has it beat. |

Fucking stupendous song right here. It's short, brilliant, and sums up what Mastodon has evolved into. Seems like the Blood & Thunder of Crack the Skye, but i haven't heard the album (yettt) could be a little into it, but if this is the opening track, it's definitely about the person's first experience out of body. into space and such. |

Probably my favorite song off the new album. i'm definitely seeing it as a metaphor that i can't quite get out, but i also see something else. he says "'And the public don't dwell on my transmission, 'cause it wasn't televised" it hits me as how people don't always pay attention to the good, the truth, because they're being clouded by the 'norm' and what's apparently 'cool' with people these days. Day & Age. |

Seems to me it's talking about a creature of some sort lurking in the forest? i'm seeing a vampire or werewolf, however i'm not entirely sure. fuckin' bad ass song whether it's about an epic blood hunt of a night realm monster or a blood sucking glass of wine. |
