Of Monsters And Men – King and Lionheart Lyrics 7 years ago
I read in a magazine where Nanna said that she wrote this about her brother, who lives in Canada with their dad (she and her mom still live in Iceland). He's the king and she's the lion-heart.

Arcade Fire – Half Light I Lyrics 9 years ago
oh also, this song reminds me of the song played in little miss sunshine when they're crusing the highway in their VW bus. i think about that every time i listen to this song.

the ups and downs of life.

Mates of State – Laura (Girls cover) Lyrics 9 years ago
the aftermath of fighting with a good friend and wanting to make up with them after the initial anger has passed. i've been there, i'm sure everyone's been there.

Mates of State – Love Letter (Nick Cave cover) Lyrics 9 years ago
pretty much a self explanatory love song, but beautiful nonetheless. but it seems to me like the narrator is not able to get up enough courage to talk to his lover himself and wants the letter to go and do all the explaining, instead of doing it face to face.

Mates of State – Long Way Home (Tom Waits cover) Lyrics 9 years ago
to me it's about making a relationship harder than it needs to be, even when you really love the person.

Arcade Fire – Half Light I Lyrics 9 years ago
the beginning versus to me mean that adults are trying to disciple the children, thinking they're too young to be out at night because nights can be more dangerous since it's dark and there's few people outside. but as kids, they don't think about that (and some adults, like me, still don't...) because they're just thinking about having fun and being outside and feeling free. things at night look differently than they do in the day.

Arcade Fire – Empty Room Lyrics 9 years ago
"said your name in an empty room" - feeling empty inside, longing for someone.

"You were burning now you're black and grey" - that person was burning bright in their mind, but after a while now they just feel hopeless as they realize that person they're longing for is not attainable.

"When I'm by myself, I can be myself" - you can be yourself, you don't have to put on an act/show for someone so that they like you.

Arcade Fire – City with No Children Lyrics 9 years ago
"I have no feeling for you now
Now that I know you better"

that line fits me so perfectly right now. i liked someone but the more i was around him, the more i learned about him and how terrible a relationship with him would be. it still hurts, but now i know better.

and to me, children are just so brutally honest and they're very imaginative. when we grow up we lose that. we grow up and lose a lot of that natural spark.

Arcade Fire – Month of May Lyrics 9 years ago
generally speaking, to me, the month of may signifies unpredicatability. you never know what it's going to bring or what's going to happen. i live in the northeast usa, so in may we've already had terrible snowstorms and summer days that reach up in the 80's. you can make plans, but things may not turn out the way you intended.

Tori Amos – Concertina Lyrics 10 years ago
I think the line, "i know the truth is in between the 1st and the 40th drink" is one of my favorites in all of her songs. To me it means that people tend to say things when they've been drinking that they would not tell people if they were sober. Personally, I've let things slip about myself when I've been drinking.

Tori Amos – Frog On My Toe Lyrics 10 years ago
It's actually about her maternal grandfather. They were really close and she would spend every summer with him until he died when she was nine.

Amanda Palmer – Oasis Lyrics 11 years ago
This song reminds me a lot of me. I've never been raped, but I think she just uses that as an example of a really terrible thing that can happen to someone. She compares the plight of being raped with the excitement of getting a letter from a favorite band. Amanda actually replied to a letter I wrote her, and that's how I felt. It didn't matter what was going on at the time - knowing that Amanda Palmer read and responded to my letter was all that mattered at the time.

I love how she dedicated this song to Sarah Palin, the moronic bitch who changed Alaska's law which now makes rape victims PAY for their own rape kits.
