Jonathan Coulton – Re: Your Brains Lyrics | 12 years ago |
And Everyone Is Jesus In Purgatory. Over-thinking it, much? "If something is funny than it has to be saying something." Apparently you're not one for fart jokes, then. "If there is no irony than [sic] it isn't funny." Actually, the vast majority of humor contains little or no irony. To me, the humor is multi-faceted: first of all, how would an undead, brain-craving zed-word be capable of formulating the complex argument that Bob presents? Secondly, the calling-out of many people's "zombie plans" - namely that they'll just hole up somewhere with guns and supplies and "ride out" the Zombie Apocalypse - which is logistically unsustainable. And third, the notions that petty-minded office diplomacy requires so little brain power that one can be literally undead and still manage to be the Obnoxious Guy from Down the Hall, and that Being A Douche extends beyond the grave. |

Really? Tarzan? I always thought it was him keeping score - Me: 0 Big Bad World: 1 |
Jonathan Coulton – Creepy Doll Lyrics | 13 years ago |
There's a clip on youtube of a live performance with Neil Gaiman reading the second verse. Creep-freakin-tastic. |
Jonathan Coulton – Want You Gone Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think this would be the perfect song to play for a nerd to get them to realize you're truly breaking up with them. I especially love the deadpan inherent violence - very GlaDOS, very Coutlon for that matter. A hair more understated than "Still Alive", as inveitable comparisons will be made... |
Ben Folds – Still Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is about someone who has control issues - they try and control everything around them, but deep down, they have issues with change. The world around them keeps changing, and they are powerless to stop it. They are trying to convince themselves that it's only change and it's no big deal. The reason they have these control issues is a changeable childhood, being moved about by Mother. They say how they focus on details (implying their control issues extend even to the minutest detail), but eventually reflect that even atoms are changing. Given the almost lullaby-like tone to the song, it almost feels like someone reassuring themself that change does not necessarily equal bad, trying to soothe troubled nerves and get some sleep. |
Bryan Adams – Run Rudolph Run Lyrics | 13 years ago |
One thing that's bothered me for years: who the hell is Randolph? |
Jonathan Coulton – Still Alive Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Well, I know in the context of the game it's a computer, but taken out of that, it feels like a logical person trying to rationalize away their post-breakup bad feelings. Kind of like "I Will Survive." Because if it were a real person talking, "broke my heart and killed me and tore me to pieces and threw every piece into a fire" is a really intense hyperbole indicating raw emotion. But they blow it all off by saying the whole ordeal has been a success. |

Only one e in heroin. For the record. |
Creedence Clearwater Revival – Lookin' Out My Back Door Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I always thought the flying spoon reference was about trying to feed an infant. (Like "Here comes the airplane! Open up!") |
Gillian Welch – Orphan Girl Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Good song. Totally agree with iyatoni's interpretation. The Divers (an awesome band from Minnesota, who don't have a listing on songmeanings - for shame!) do a nice cover of this song, too. |
The Monkees – Randy Scouse Git Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Ahh! Record labels! That makes more sense. I always assumed it was about a guy who was totally henpecked all the time. Cuz the chorus seems very nag-nag-nag to me, and "the being known as wondergirl" (like a self-important woman who can't be contradicted.) |
R.E.M. – World Leader Pretend Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Oh, to have known this site existed 2 years ago. But I rebut nonetheless. Just wanted to point out: raised and razed are 2 separate words with opposite meanings. Dictionaries are fun! |
Weezer – You Gave Your Love To Me Softly Lyrics | 15 years ago |
And here I was thinking it was Bichon. I had this elaborate scenario involving a lapdog that just wouldn't leave and wouldn't die... (Bichon frise.) |
Cake – Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Wait - Cake covered this song? I will forever associate it with - God help us - Kenny Rogers. |
