Elton John – Bennie And The Jets Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is totally about doing speed.

"Bennie and the Jets" being how speed makes you feel like you're moving at 200mph like a jetplane.

Modest Mouse – You're the Good Things Lyrics 9 years ago
Another Jan. 4th thing from me...The formatting is really stupid, because I guess I just got lazy, or something else that is typical to me. Irregardless, it's more loose, rather than an actual paragraph.

Here we go again, unedited, unaltered, full of pretentious douchebaggery as it was on that day:

V1 - Idea of being seperated, transcending humans
V2 - More of the same idea; references NOTS to back up the meaning ("You were right I'm underground becuz..."

"You're the Good Things" as a drug abuse song, rather than a love song describing a 1-sided relationship.

["Icing on the cake on the table @ my wake"]
-Death caused by drugs, his friends still use them, despite the {dire} warning. Alternatively, he becomes "dead to the world", and "eats his own cake", so-to-speak.

["Flowers in my house when my allergies comeout"]
-The idea that they have the ability to "tempt and inflame" users (of -anything-) once the craving kicks in. After a while they become a part of your life like, say, fappin'. It gets to be 2nd nature erry once in a while - A habit.

["extra ton of cash in my sinking life raft"]
-Drugs tend to draw in cash. I think IB was trying to say he liked drugs for work - Cash from (admittedly brilliant) meth-fueled frontman power was no doubt great. I suppose the "life raft" is his life as a musician, last shot before being "nothing/nobody/methheadIsaac".

["loud sound of fun when I'm tryin' to sleep"]
-Again, the disturb you at times. The idea of sleeping on stims is stupidly stupid. On other drugs (excluding a numeric few), its the same case - LSD, DMH, DXM, &c. all (temporary) insomnia-inducing thangs.

["& The help's not short, when yr diggin' your own grave"]
-Oughta be obvious. A thanks to those who help you get the 'good things'.

The ending is fantastic. I love the Night on The Sun EP version, with those chaotic violins in the background. The Parlor Tricks version is excellent as well, because it's slightly more intense. I just like the first version due to the rawness and the ability for this song to just chill a motherfucker the hell out. Once you get to those last 30 seconds, you're rendered helpless in the song's grasp.

Modest Mouse – Night on the Sun Lyrics 9 years ago
Wrote this out while I had an epiphany regarding the meaning of this song - January 4th, around noontime. I was tweaking on Vyvanse and propylhexedrine during literature class (as I'm the scum of the earth, scourge of mankind), but nevertheless, this is, and will always be, my notion about this track. Here is exactly what I wrote, unedited, unaltered, no censorship. Here we go:

"Night on The Sun" is about reclusiveness. The title alone depicts the concept of an imposed (sometimes self-) loneliness. The line, ["Turn off the light cuz its night on the sun, & your hopelessly hopeless, our hopes are all for you"] that permeates the song details the idea of closing yr curtains, and the reactions of those around you. Isaac is trying to say "your friends give a shit".
The idea of ["freeze yr blood & then stab it into me"] is reflecting how a recluse wants someone to come his way and help him out of his depressive pitfall {*Empathize w. him}. He then proceeds to write ["I eat my own blood & get filled up, I get filled up on me"], another piece that shows a reclusive (or at least avoidant) lifestyle - The narrator quits needing other people as company (hearken back to the -phenomenal- chorus of Baby Blue Sedan - "I'm never lonesome when I'm by myself"), and proceeds to make do with only himself and his mind for company, whether it be with drugs, terebii, Japanimation (Brock's waifu is Witch Hunter Robin), or anything.
Last few lines of the song are both the most powerfully sung, and poignantly meaningful ["Well, there's one thing to know about this town, it's 500 miles underground! (It's alright...), well, there's one thing to know about this globe, it's bound & it's willing to explode (It's alright)"] The climax ends with something like "ain't nobody who wants me underground, which proves the Narrator (Isaac) accepts his friend's help. Good end?

For the record, this is probably one of my favorite songs, by my favorite band. Still don't have -the- favorite, but this is definitely on the list.

Modest Mouse – The Cold Part Lyrics 10 years ago
To be fair, few people knew it was a quote from Neil Young.

Modest Mouse – Alone Down There Lyrics 10 years ago
"How do you do, my name is you" really kind of is a pretty lame lyric.

I take it as someone who's trying to urge someone out of a horrible situation - Depression or something. Kind of like they're trying to save someone, but not quite, because the 'savior' is as bad off as the 'saved'.

Also might be about changing your worldview to match that of those around you, what with the references to the devil - There was an interview with Isaac that mentioned he was interested in the whole idea of Satan tempting people into thinking he's God (therefore making God the devil).

Instrumentally it's pretty awesome - Doesn't really sound that much like Modest Mouse.

Dr. Dre – The Day The Niggaz Took Over Lyrics 10 years ago
Well, in all fairness, you could just replace "White Record Executive" with Suge Knight.

The Mars Volta – Day Of The Baphomets Lyrics 11 years ago
I think it's just a tongue-in-cheek prod at religion. That's the entire 'theme' of this album.
Frances the Mute had similar themes, and the entire Bedlam in Goliath album is about how religion can do more bad than good.

Mogwai – Take Me Somewhere Nice Lyrics 11 years ago
So this is the song that got me all emotional during Wassup, Rockers?...It's beautiful.

The Mars Volta – Eriatark AD Lyrics 11 years ago
Is this just the demo version of Eriatarka?

The Mars Volta – Inertiatic ESP Lyrics 11 years ago
Replying to a post from 2004, bro.

The Mars Volta – A Plague Upon Your Hissing Lyrics 11 years ago
I love when this song goes into it's wanky jazz odyssey at the end. It's just amazingly...ambient, I guess.

At the Drive-In – Blue Tag Lyrics 11 years ago
The intro to this song always reminded me of Teenage Riot from Sonic Youth...I'd say I like this song better, because it doesn't just drag like TR. Both songs are good, I prefer Blue Tag, though.

Snowing – You Bring Something...No Lyrics 11 years ago
I love this song. John Galm just kind of put every opinion on the future that I had into words that I couldn't.

At the Drive-In – Paid Vacation Time Lyrics 11 years ago
Replying to a post from 2003, bro.

Dinosaur Jr. – Green Mind Lyrics 11 years ago
Personally, I think this song is about being stoned, and thinking about trying to talk to a girl. Well...The first verse, anyway. The 'green mind' could be one of two things; The "slacker" mentality, or sweet, stinky weed. The chorus is the narrator looking around, seeing that he doesn't want to chill with his friends, he wants to chill with the girl. The second chorus is the narrator (J, I guess) trying to decipher the gestures of the girl. He gets kind of confused, and tired of thinking of it all, and decides he'd rather "rot" than have to deal with that. The last part, before the final chorus, is the narrator realizing the girl is in conflict with his lifestyle. Then, it dives into the chorus, and ultimately tries to decide whether to change his ways for the girl, or "letting the plate split" (just laying his feelings on the line), and not having to deal with it. But, he ultimately decides that it'd be lame to go down without a fight, despite his confusion.

Yeah....For the record, I love the last chorus, and how he sings "I think it'd be kinda LAME to let it slide".

Amesoeurs – Amesoeurs Lyrics 11 years ago
"Living alone, away from everything
Standing on the rooftops of the world,
I always keep an eye on you
When the night surrounds the city,
What are dying hopes?
At the corner of a street I catch your hand
To show you the blue lights
And pursue fleeting shadow.
At a street corner I catch your hand
To not let go
And together we carry on
As madmen in dark alleys."

This is from Google Translate, so, yeah...Not that accurate.

Death from Above 1979 – My Love Is Shared Lyrics 11 years ago
This song really reminds me of Kurt Cobain.
I could be mistaken, but I think they took away of his journals ("I've not written a single word in days") when he went to rehab. The "Please let me go, I wanna leave...felt so clean" is obvious - who wants to be in rehab?

I dunno, I could be reading too much into it.

The Blood Brothers – Trash Flavored Trash Lyrics 11 years ago
It's not about "corporate America" or anything. It's an angst against people playing the roles that 'society' set for them, and the narrator is describing how he doesn't want to end up like them ("take me to the hall of filthy faces", "22 years in this zoo of broken faces").

Make Me – Snail Trails Lyrics 11 years ago
"suck it up, baby boy"

Merchant Ships reference?

Please tell me somebody gets the joke.

Snowing – Kirk Cameron Crowe Lyrics 11 years ago
Best on the demo.

The Fall of Troy – What Sound Does a Mastadon Make? Lyrics 12 years ago
I love the riff after the "where'd you get those eyes..." bit. It sounds like it's full of anger and rage, really helps you get a feel for the song. It's made even cooler that the last line is also in Tears of the Green Eyed Angels, which is one of my favorite songs in general.

Mötley Crüe – Goin' Out Swingin' Lyrics 12 years ago
How could nobody comment on this? It's the best song on SOLA.

Slipknot – Gematria (The Killing Name) Lyrics 12 years ago
I love how .execute leads right up to this.

Iron Maiden – Caught Somewhere In Time Lyrics 12 years ago
This song reminds me about the (2001) film Donnie Darko. It's weird, because Somewhere in Time was released in '86.
"Time is always on my side" brings an instant image of Frank the Rabbit to mind.
It's probably about time itself, if you look closely, the album itself is:

Wasted Years: Running out of time, realizing it's to late to go back

Sea of Madness: maybe somebody did something terrible (murder?) and wants to rewind time, but they can't, thus remaining in the Sea of Madness

Heaven Can Wait: Near-Death Experience

The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner: cross-country runner, eyes always on a clock, like in the short-story

Stranger in A Strange Land: how somebody got preserved in ice, thus time remains still for them, them never being able to move, yet

Déjà Vu: that odd feeling, like you've been somewhere before

Alexander the Great: History, self-explanatory.

Iron Maiden – Sea Of Madness Lyrics 12 years ago
I love the bassline in this song. It has an odd feel that reminds me of a tilting boat.
The "Sea" is just metaphoric, of course.

Iron Maiden – Transylvania Lyrics 12 years ago
Steve was going to write lyrics to this song, but it just seemed fine the way it was, and they were probably at a press for time, so they left it instrumental. I remember reading that somewhere...

Iron Maiden – The Nomad Lyrics 12 years ago
Wicker Man is about the film, Brave New World is about the book, Out of the Silent Planet, however is NOT about the book. It's actually about the 1956 film: The Forbidden Planet.

Bloc Party – Mercury Lyrics 12 years ago
I like this song, myself. It's cool how it starts off slow and then it gets all chaotic at the end. The new album's not my favorite, but it's pretty damn good. Just one or two songs are off. Hey, it's better than what most artists are churning out nowadays, in my opinion.

Bloc Party – The Present Lyrics 13 years ago
For some reason, this song reminds me of the Samurai Champloo (a japanese cartoon) ending theme. It's called "Shiki No Uta" [Song of Four Seasons].

Bloc Party – Mercury Lyrics 13 years ago
The music video for this song is weird as hell...

Bloc Party – American Kids Lyrics 13 years ago
Hey, I'm American, and I hate America. It's not like I'm a commie or anything, I'm just getting damn sick of the "spoiled rich kids", and the morons on the hill we have 'leading us'. We're pretty much the most destructive country in the world. Apparently, we want war and chaos. If we just got Dubya out of office, then we'd be fine, and maybe Bloc Party wouldn't HAVE to say bad stuff about us. But this song is just about the "spoiled rich kids" Kele says stuff that has to be said, he's talking about the British people who want to live the "American Dream" (my ass), and the politcally retarded people. The worst part is, 40% of the preps this song is about, are children of politicians and mayors. America is slowly getting corrupted, sorry if you don't like it, but hey, that's the truth.
We're making everyone hate us, including ourselves.

Bloc Party – SRXT Lyrics 13 years ago
With a name like SRXT, you'd think it'd be fast-paced, but when I heard this, I almost started crying, man...This song was sad.

Slipknot – Liberate Lyrics 13 years ago
It's about a man who hallucinates. Liberate his mind from the beasts he envisions.

Slipknot – My Plague Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm only slightly depressed, but I liked Slipknot way before that. I started getting into them years ago, and the weirdest part is, I think they solved my anger issues.

Skid Row – 18 And Life Lyrics 13 years ago
Are you ready to unleash the fury Rerub?

Iron Maiden – Lord of Light Lyrics 13 years ago
Doesn't matter WHAT it's about. It's badass. Simple as that. Reminds me a bit of Caught Somewhere in Time, can't deny that, right?

Dio – Holy Diver Lyrics 13 years ago
Dio IS the Holy Diver, you people don't get that. This song has to be about his ascension to fame. And then his degression- "Holy Diver". Dio- still rocking after 66 years.

KISS – Detroit Rock City Lyrics 13 years ago
KISS fuckin rocks! I also think it's pretty badass that they gave tribute to the Unnamed Teen. Now that you mention it, KISS has had a lot of bad luck...Think about it...

KISS – Into The Void Lyrics 13 years ago
Why the hell didn't anyone comment on this song yet? It was sung by the mighty Space Ace, dudes! Rock on!

Iron Maiden – The Legacy Lyrics 13 years ago
The song IS creepy. Eerie, would describe it.

Bloc Party – Two More Years Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it means a lot of things. It's my belief Kele let you interpret this song as you want. No right answer, no wrong answer. Sometimes, to me, it means somebody is off at war, and two more years 'till he comes back, see? Other times, it means that I'll meet who I'm looking for in 2 more years. 24 Months. Conceited? Somewhat. Hopeful? Yes.

Slipknot – Pulse of the Maggots Lyrics 13 years ago
The one thing that pisses me off about Slipknot is the impatient wait for their next album. August 26th is almost a month away!

Marilyn Manson – Rock 'n' Roll Nigger (Patti Smith cover) Lyrics 13 years ago
I think I'm a nigger...(outcast, of course, I'm the color of snow, I'm in Pale Force)
But this song rocks!

Akira Yamaoka – You're Not Here Lyrics 13 years ago
Sucks Mr. Mason died...
This song isn't a break-up song, it's a song about longing for the past, old friends, old loves, happy days. Blue sky to forever.

Dir En Grey – Kodou (English) Lyrics 13 years ago
This song's my favorite one by DeG. It's melodic, and hardcore at the same time. It sounds so happy, and tragic. It's basically the polar opposite of itself. Just something to think about.

Dir En Grey – Yokan (English) Lyrics 13 years ago
It's about suicide. He's at his wits end with life (The Final). That's obvious.

Dir En Grey – Zomboid (English) Lyrics 13 years ago
The song kicks ass, but the lyrics are a bit odd, to say the least. But Dix (irony?) is probably right about it though. Kyo tends to write songs about broken psyche. Stalkers, rapists, killers, perverts, I heard a reference in at least one of each of their songs. In a way, Dir en Grey is the perfect anger management course.

Dir En Grey – Clever Sleazoid Lyrics 13 years ago
Dir en Grey is a bit morbid, but either way, this song rocks. They got me into J-Rock. This song's insane.

KISS – Psycho Circus Lyrics 13 years ago
This, is the best KISS song I heard yet.

KISS – I Lyrics 13 years ago
Best song on THE ELDER there is...And yes, kissfreak, that's probably excactly what it's about.
