I reckon it's about people thinking they're hardcore then realising they're not.

Radiohead – No Surprises Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm pretty sure it's about suicide. A middle management type is sick of his pointless life, being woken up by the alarm clock everyday to go to his soul draining job. So he hooks a pipe up to his exhaust, puts it through a window and turns on the engine. "A handshake of carbon monoxide".

"This is my final fit, my final belly-ache" is refering to his pain in life being over, after this last mild pain he'll won't have to put up with anymore. Then he looks out the window of his car and sees how pretty the world is, he changes his mind and wants to get out of the car "let me out of here" but it's too late, he hasn't got the strength to get out.

The tune has a dizzy, sleepy quality, mirroring the effects of carbon monoxide.

R.E.M. – It's the End of the World as We Know It Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about all those catastrophists who are endlessly proclaiming that the end of the world is nigh. It lists off all the possible ends of the world that people fear (corrupt government, co2 emmisions, boom burning regimes, continental drift) but he feels fine because it doesn't seem to be happening and the truth is it won't. Thats what this song is about

Radiohead – Street Spirit (Fade Out) Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is NOT ABOUT THE DEVIL despite Thom York saying it is. IO realise that the writer of the song saying so is pretty damning evidence but it clearly has nothing to do with somebody out to make you miserable, it's the opposite in fact, the song is aying everything is pointless and empty and sooner or later you will fade out and die. "Immerse your soul in love" at the end seems to be saying that the only escape is love but thats a load of rubbish and eveyone knows it, maybe radiohead wanted us to think that.

All you people who say you can't bear to listen to this song are pathetic (or liars) if you truly understood the message of the song it wouldn't matter whether you were listening to street spirit or surfing USA the depressing emptiness would always be with you. Enjoy!

Radiohead – Let Down Lyrics 16 years ago
Like most tracks on OK Computer this song is about the sad monotony of modern life. In let down this is typified by modern transport that leaves you "let down and hanging around"

Radiohead – Climbing Up the Walls Lyrics 16 years ago
my second favorite radiohead song after no surprises. I think this song may have been inspired by a mental institution but it's not about one. The song is about people being afraid of things in their imagination, the cupboard monster, "and shut the eyes in the cupboard", "either way you turn i'll be there, open up your skull i'll be there" he's always there because he's in the persons mind, When they go in the creepy basement they catch a glimpse of him in the mirror but then he disappears. "It's always best when the covers up" because thats when your imagination is thinking things up. Brilliant song, creepy too.

Radiohead – No Surprises Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is clearly about suicide. The man is sick of his boring go nowhere job (probably in middle management) and of being taxed to f*uck (just in case) by the government. he wants a quiet life with no alarms and no surprises but he knows he can't have one so he decides to carbon monoxide himself. he's looking out of the car at the end thinking he's got such a pretty house and such a pretty garden and decides he wants to live, but it's too late, he's too weak to open the door by then "let me out of here" and he dies. The perfect end to my favorite song. please tell me if you agree with this interpretation.

Radiohead – Karma Police Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that this song is about all the complainers in the world, trying to get people punished for petty reasons. The man who buzzes like a fridge has his headphones on too loud. Somebody doesn't like the girls hair style and feels she should be punished. The karma police are the petty people who complain about things like this. Also I believe " I've given all I can, but I'm still on the payroll" is refering to giving to charity, he's given all he can but he's still earning money for his self and feels guilty.
